SapphireDreams got a reaction from Krikit in Credit Card?
I had the same problem when I called TD Canada Trust to change the address on my credit card. I can't remember who I called initially, but I think I called my bank initially and they told me I couldn't do it and then I called the credit card directly and they changed it no problem and told me that whoever I talked to didn't have the right information and I could keep it and live in the US.
I think you should try calling back or try calling a different number.

But isn't it the son in law asking for it because he needs to give it to the navy? That's how i read your post. If he just wants it to have then, no, but if the navy needs it, ask him to give you the form so you can fill it out and see that there is an official need for it.

I think that most people are either completely blind sighted or they are in denial about it... they see the signs, but refuse to believe that a person that they think they love and loves them would do something like that. I think it can go both ways.
I think that listening to you gut instinct can be very telling in these types of sitations. I also think that you need to ask yourself, if you were to say to your spouse, let's move to YOUR country instead, not the US, what would their reaction be? Even if it is a third world country, would you move there if you had to and how would they feel about it?

You are visiting, exactly the same as your husband, the US citizen. You follow all the guidelines of a visitor to Canada.
Residents of Canada have different allowances, but they don't count for you since you are a resident of the US.

I'm just curious though, for those that just use a greencard (and say you don't have a passport with you at all) what happens if you have to fly back in an emergency?
Or, even if you live in the US and had an emergency in Canada and had to get on the next plane back? Then what's the plan?
As a non-US citizen, I just think it's important to have my Canadian passport just in case I need it. 99.9% chance I won't need it unless I have a trip planned, but I guess I see it as insurance.

Your living expenses would probably go up too in NYC, which I'm sure you've considered as well esp. if you'd be looking to live in Manhattan. Plus you'd have to get yourself health benefits which are not cheap. You don't realize how good you have it in that regards when you are self-employed in Canada.
Just because you'd be charging more money, might not even be worth it! Just another point of view.

See I don't think Canadian realize that they do it. And I know I never did it all the time.
I would never say, "I'm going to the Wal-mart", but I would say, "Let's go the Wal-mart to get the patio furniture and the the Pizza Hut for dinner". I would only use it when I'm referring to a specific location that correlates with the next place.
It's kind of hard to explain, but I think it's used more in the context of, "Let's go to the Wal-mart [on Main St.] for the XXX" - we are leaving out the specific location details.
At least that's how I would use it. I don't think Thea means in a redneck kind of way.

In that case, she should probably also find out if there is a waiting period in her province for health coverage to kick again in Canada. Some provinces have a waiting period.

Personally, I'd just wait to schedule an interview until AFTER you return from your trip in July to avoid any border crossing issues. Even if you haev NEXUS, who knows if you'll get pulled aside and then you're at the discretion of the officer. Too many what ifs for me to handle. If you don't plan to move and can wait until after your trip, that would be a good option with the least bit of risk involved.

I would google "noise complaint name of your city/town" and see what pops up. There is a whole site about for the LAPD, but I don't know if that covers you. I would also just try calling the local police number (non-emergency) and see what they suggest.

It's not so bad once you read up on it. It just required a lot of patience because there is a lot of waiting. The 9-12 months it takes to process feels like an eternity, but I have been in the US for almost 3 years now and now that I look back at it, those 10 months went by really fast!

I left all of my books and heavy objects behind with my parents and have been bringing them over slowly after visits.
I think it really depends no how much you have -if it's only a a few boxes, I'd probably ship them UPS, if you have a lot of boxes, you'll probably need to look into actual movers.

Yes, that makes sense. Your brazil police certificate will cover your addresses in Brazil and then you'll need a police certificate from Canada covering you for your Canadian address. Do you have that?

Yes, you are a resident alien. I believe that anyone with legal presence (including those with just a work permit/visa) are considered a resident alien.

Honestly, the work visa sounds like it's going to be a lot more hassle then it's worth. Seems doubtful that you'll get a work visa for that type of job.
I'd go for a K1 if that's your original intention anyways.

I think the thing is that yes they can import it from anywhere, but it depends on if they are WILLING to do it and how much clout they actually put into it.
My co-worker is trying to buy a house right now and from what I'm learning from her, getting a mortgage is extremely complicated and NOTHING is for sure until it's finalized in writing and signed on the dotted line. She said every mortgage broker just tells you want you want to hear, but when it actually comes time to give you the money there are a lot of last minute things that will just "pop up" that they "forgot to mention".

I'm guessing your Mom can't drive? Because I almost just feel like it would be easier for her to become a Canadian resident and for them to live in Canada and just have her commute and cross on her own everyday.
Seems a bit silly that he would go through all of the trouble to become a US greencard holder if he wants to live in Canada. Because he's just going to run into the same issues if he's crossing back and forth into Canada, maintaining a residence in Canada, but holds a US greencard. The border guards may see that as abusing the greencard system.
If he wants to get a greencard, he needs to reside in the US and become a US resident.

Does your fiance/husband not have health insurance?
Why not just look into getting a job with good insurance or upgrading his current insurance?
I was scared of the US system when I first moved here from Canada, and also concerned with the cost of healthcare and having a baby, but honestly, the healthcare in the US is top notch if you have a decent health insurance. Doesn't even have to be the best insurance. I have one of the lowest plans and the Dr.s in my network are awesome.
You say you're looking to save money, but by the time you buy plane tickets back and forth, pay all your K1 and AOS fees for immigration and then apply again for the CR-1, you might as well just look into better health insurance, pay the 20% or 10% that isn't always covered, or pay out of pocket (usually Dr.'s give you a break).
Just my two cents though. Why bother even going through with the K1 if you are just going to move back after a year? Why not just have your fiance move there and then file for a visa after you have a baby?
    Good luck with everything!
