  1. Hi, my mother and I (petitioner) got AOS interview in 1 month. She unluckily got ill and had to take her to the hospital. Since she is uninsured, they told us to apply for Emergrency Medicaid. I am scared that could affect her AOS case. Does anyone know whether it could? also, once I get her AOS approved and get her green card, do you know if I could enroll her in Obamacare or some type of health insurance ? thanks, silentsiren
  2. I sent my application last week. USPS says it was delivered to USCIS Chicago P.O. Box, but they still have not cashed my check. It has been almost 1 week. Any ideas on the time frame?
  3. I see . They told me that it is free because the state of MI is sponsoring it. Will that be considered public benefit for immigration purposes?
  4. My apologies, it should not be bolded. I want to travel with my mom to PR , not outside the US. Did you mean to bring the receipt once they receive all my files ? Or the I 131 parole receipt for traveling to PR?
  5. I am filing for AOS for my mother. Her visitor visa expires on December and I am planning to travel past that date to Puerto Rico. Should it be necessary to ask in the I 131 to travel to Puerto Rico? Or there should not be an issue since Puerto Rico is part of the USA. Thanks in advance
  6. I am filing to adjust of status for my mother. A local community college offers ESL classes for free. If I enroll her to those classes , will I be taking advantage of a public service benefit ? Since in the I 485 , they ask if the immigrant has used a public benefit while on a visitor visa. Thanks in advance
  7. Thanks for your reply. Another last question. You said letting the NVC know is optional. If I decide to let them know, should I do it before or after submitting the I 485, and should I just send them an email via their public inquiry or call them instead? Thanks in advance.
  8. Oh wow. You already had an interview scheduled at the embassy and everything was finalized at the NVC? Also, when you notified the embassy, you did it after submitting the I485 ?
  9. Thanks for your quick reply. Another question, did you notify the NVC that you are adjusting of status and they should stop the consular processing? Did you email them or call them? Or you didn’t notify them at all?, and if you notified the NVC, did you do this before submitting the I485 or after? Thanks in advance.
  10. Ok good. Last question, it also asks for “date of decision” , but we didn’t not make a decision until we change our minds once she visits the US and decide to AOJ. Should I just provide a date let’s say when I submit the I-485 or just say N/A?
  11. Ok, I submitted the DS-260 form, so my answer should be “yes”? In that case, it also asks about the decision. The DS-260 form was approved. but I didn’t not finish the consular processing since we did not finish submitting the other documents nor got to the interview process etc. So what should I answer on the decision part “ approved” or “withdraw “ or something else like “didn’t not complete” ?
  12. Thank you so much on your detailed story. In the I-485, there is one question that they ask “have you ever applied for an immigrant visa to obtain permanent resident status at a U.S. Embassy or consulate abroad?” in you case since you started the process as consular processing, did
  13. Thank you so much on your detailed explanation . In the I-485, there is one question that they ask “have you ever applied for an immigrant visa to obtain permanent resident status at a U.S. Embassy or consulate abroad?” in this case since I started the process as consular processing, should my answer be yes, or should my answer be no since I am switching to AOS? Thanks in advance.
  14. Thank you so much on your detailed story. In the I-485, there is one question that they ask “have you ever applied for an immigrant visa to obtain permanent resident status at a U.S. Embassy or consulate abroad?” in you case since you started the process as consular processing, did you answer yes, or your answer was no since you did not complete that way? Thanks in advance
  15. Also, should the petitioner and beneficiary submit the I 485 and all other corresponding forms first and right after let the NVC know that they are adjusting of status or let the NVC first that they are going to adjust of status before submitting the I 485? Does anyone know the best order to make the switch?
  16. Currently I am petitioning my mother to get her green card. I originally started it as a consular processing . However, she is visiting me , and our plan was to have her go back in three months to wait back home. Now I changed my mind and would like to stay here with me and get her green card here. I was told I could submit the I 485 along with the I 864 and let the NVC now that I am adjusting her status from inside the US. Does anyone know if I should submit the I 485 first and then just after let the NVC now, or should I let the NVC know first and right after submit the I 485? In either case , should I just email the NVC via their public inquiry or should I call them? Thanks in advance.
