Hi all, my passport with visa inside was returned to me today (issued September 9th, 2021) and we are over the moon! I never received my "Welcome to America" letter at the end of my interview, but this letter was included alongside my passport. So if you didn't receive one at your interview but you were approved, it's likely coming in the mail with your passport!

We are planning to make the final move in January, after I recover from surgery for cancer. Thank you so much to this forum for the advice and morale over these last months. ❤ VJ family is invaluable!

Congratulations! And I am so sorry to hear about your cancer, but I hope the surgery goes well!

I just spent the last 4 hours going through this threat back to last year and seeing this really breaks my heart. I live in Toronto and my fiance in Florida. My fiancé and I are trying to decide between a K-1 or just get married already and submit a CR-1 but I am not vaccinated and do not wish to be......so does that just mean we'll never be able to be together now? We've been together for 4 years now and haven't seen each other now in over 6 months because of the border closures so we're ready to just submit the papers so we can be together sooner. Yet this literally just eradicates us ever being together if it's being forced. I understand most people wish to be vaccinated against Covid and I respect that but I do not, and am honestly more scared of the vaccine than the virus. I don't know what to do now and honestly just feel broken and depressed now knowing even if I submit now it'll be a year before I might even get an interview let alone will be approved without this vaccine.... Don't even know what to do anymore.... I can't go a year and a half not seeing him, let alone not being approved after waiting that long....

I think someone awhile ago talked about getting a waiver for all vaccines, so id imagine something like that can be done for the COVID vaccine also. Someone else might have more insight than me though. Hang in there, I just received my visa after 2.5 years of waiting, it’s terrible but you’ll get there!

Just got out of the consulate! They kept my passport with the intent to approve my passport. Me and the new friend made in the consulate both got instructions on how to track our passport/visa status.

Everyone said they got a welcome letter are y’all punking me what is a welcome letter and why don’t I have one this just made me more anxious please help _:(´ཀ`」

Don’t worry I didn’t get a welcome letter either and was confused! But I was approved and my passport should be back in a day or two! :) congrats!!

    Thanks!

I contacted Dr Mascarenhas and they did say they need an IL, however they claimed they will accomodate me even on short notice which is awesome.

Does the IL get sent to our emails or in physical mail?

No problem! They get sent out as an email. Usually they are sent out in the second week of the month, but really it could be anytime.

Will do! Does anyone know if I can go get my medical done in Toronto before receiving my IL? If so what would I give them because usually they want your IL.

I am just worried if they give me like 2 weeks notice haha.

    Thanks!

From my understanding you need your IL to book an appointment but i understand your worry. I received my IL in the last batch and I knew I wouldn’t have much notice considering I was directly next in line (dq oct 6). I received my IL on aug 11 and was able to get an appointment for my medical on Aug 25 in Vancouver. I just received the notice that the results have been sent to the consulate which is plenty on time before my interview on sept 3. So although I understand your worry, the medical offices require an IL so that they can make sure those with little notice get in on time so you should be okay!

When I went to Dr Zatzmans in Ontario everything you listed was what he wanted except they did not need passport photos because they took my photo and uploaded it ..

Im not sure what Dr Cheema needs but on a side note I would bring enough cash to cover the cost of everything  with Dr Zatzman they accept all forms of payment now but in the past no credit card payments .

I doubled checked every document they gave me and I missed a spelling error on my lab requisition's .Lucky the x-ray lab seen it because the blood lab told me if it was not corrected they probably wouldn't of released my blood lab results.

Wow glad you got the error! And thank you so much! I always get anxious I’m forgetting a document.

Alberta friends.... Which Medical did you make your appointment at and why?
I am DQ October 28,2020 so really hopeful for the next batch and I need to financially plan...
Is there a list of how much each place charges also?

I’m in Calgary and am flying out to Vancouver tomorrow for my medical. I only ever considered van because it’s the closest but I wish I had looked into the prices for flights to Toronto at the time. Usually flying to van you can snag a 100$ round trip from here but I paid almost 450$...and I have friends going to Toronto in September for fun because the flights are much cheaper than usual, around 200$ I believe. So I think it really depends when you go.

also sorry misread about how much each dr office charges. I think you can go to their websites through the links on travel.state.gov site

I feel really bad for the ppl who had interviews for Juneteenth who got told the night before they we all canceled. Seen posting of ppl says we just flew into Montreal and were told no go.

Yes! That was so sad, I can’t believe they had no compassion and just cancelled the night before as if people hadn’t paid for their flights and hotels already.

Alright, we finally made it back home. My wife’s visa was approved.

She went in at 9:30 am convinced it was going to be over in less than an hour. She actually spent 2 hours inside the consulate. I thought it was a negative sign since I was waiting outside for her. It was all due to the number of people being interviewed on that day, plus the very limited staff at the consulate. So if you go with your spouse, don’t panic if it’s taking more than one hour.

Same thing other VJ members have said. The original documents are requested at the beginning (birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate, passport, and pictures for visa) she was asked basic questions such as:

-what is the name of the petitioner?

    -where does the petitioner live?

    -when did you get married?

    -How did you meet?

-whats is your spouse’s phone number?

The only extra document she was asked for was the I-864 which, luckily, we had already printed. It’s always good to get copies for the interview just in case. After confirming some other details, the interviewer told my wife he intended to approve her visa.

We are thankful for the community here, and the advice we have received. It certainly helped us navigate this immigration process in the middle of a pandemic.

One last thing, bring something to read since it is a long wait. Unfortunately, my wife brought a crossword magazine, but she forgot her pen so you can imagine how anxious she was lol.

Awesome congrats! And thank you for the advice! I have one question, did they ask for a new I-864 like with 2020 tax info or the one you had already uploaded before you were DQ’d?

  10. Hey everyone! I have a question, I apologize if it’s dumb but I haven’t been able to find the answer. I’m hoping to get an interview soon, DQ oct 6 so next in line and I’m figuring out everything for the move. I’ve decided I’m not going to import my car right away (or possibly at all) because I need a new car soon anyways. But I’m wondering if I don’t import my canadian car (I know I can drive it up to a year without importing) can I still register it in the USA? I plan to bring it back to my parents within the year after the move to sell it back up here, then buy a new car in North Dakota where I’ll be living. Again I don’t know if this is a silly question, any insight welcome, thanks!

Nope. We got the ILs for next month.

Guess this is it. Oh well, we all have waited so long, no harm in waiting another month or so!

    Keep the faith guys-Joe Biden

side note- this US consulate job is looking more and more enticing to me-no pressure, no quota, so many holidays!

    haha!

It’s true, I’m actually laughing at the fact that they stopped the day before they got to me (I’m DQ oct 6). I was so upset back in June when they skipped a month of interviews that I don’t even get my hopes up anymore lol. I’ve accepted my fate lmao.

    but I agree, maybe I’ll apply 😂

    @PHM @gavinski91 @MA1793 @MadKittyCat @John416 have you guys heard anything yet or is the cut-off October 2nd?

Nothing :( I woke up with so many notification emails I got excited and quickly scrolled to see if I had an IL which I don’t, so I knew i didn’t get an interview in August before even reading this thread :( I can’t believe they’re doing this, September is my 4th wedding anniversary.

Hi all - I had a question. I live in Ontario and got a new Police Certificate back in March. I made a VERY silly mistake by opening the letter in too much excitement and ended up tearing the top part a bit, all the text is still intact but the top part of the letter teared up. So bummed out with my tiny mistake. I am scared they wont accept it as is? Should I get another one done? So confused

This just happened to me too!!! I was so mad at myself and I just put a piece of tape on it. But I’ve been wondering the same thing ugh

Great, thanks! someone just told me that Canadians are not allowed in to the U.S. via land border unless they are essential, is this true? I thought U.S. was letting tourists in?

I found this on the us customs and border security site via google

    https://help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-1596?language=en_US

“On March 21, 2020, the U.S., Mexico, and Canada temporarily restricted non-essential travel across the US-Canada land borders. These restrictions will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. EDT on June 21, 2021. We are maintaining cross-border activities with Canada and Mexico that support health security, trade, commerce, supply security, and other essential activities while taking critical steps to protect our citizens and to curb spread of the virus. “

    Hi again all

I tried to register my appointment with them, but it said my case number is not ready for an

appointment. Should I wait and try again? I just received the IL this morning....

any comment will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I remember reading somewhere (maybe FAQ) that it can take a day to process before you’re able to register the appointment! So I would just wait and try again :) congrats on your interview!

For bank or credit statements, you can check with your online account with the bank, I'm sure they have bank/credit statements that you can download in pdf. With Bank of America, you can even request your very old statements like even 5 yrs ago. The car registration renewal or car insurance monthly bill is considered too as proof of domicile. I assume your spouse have a mobile and receive that monthly bill statements. With that he/she is establishing a proof of domicile.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but when going over the documents we needed on the department of state website I didn’t see anything about proof of domicile and now I keep hearing about it and it’s making me anxious. Is it mainly needed if the American citizen doesn’t currently live in the states or are documents also needed for Americans who live and work within the states full time? My husband works full time in ND so I thought his taxes and pay stubs were enough but now I’m just nervous I need more. Again sorry if it’s a dumb, I was DQ’d oct 6 2020 so we’re hoping for an interview in the next few months and I want to make sure I have everything! Thanks so much

NVC by default assigns the interview at your country of residence. If you hold a citizenship or a residency in a country different from your country of residence, you are eligible for an interview in an embassy there. As I understand it you need to request from NVC for your case to be moved to the other embassy, and provide reasons. They may or may not approve it.

Some of us here are Permanent Residents in Canada or here on a work/ student visa (not Canadian citizens) but assigned to Montreal embassy because we reside here. We hold citizenships and/or permanent residencies in other countries and are eligible to move our cases there. Others here who are Canadians may hold dual citizenship with other countries as you mentioned or hold residency in other countries...

Ah okay that makes sense! Thanks for the explanation
