  1. Hi there,

I have a problem regarding my name in my Ethiopian passport, I have old documents like birth certificate written full name as mentioned in my old passport which is canceled now , after renewing my passport for some reason  my last name was not mentioned. What is the correct action to be done. Is getting an affidavit is enough or I should go and update my passport which may take long time?

Thank you for your reply, I have a birth certificate and a divorce certificate with my correct old name used in old passport, when I renewed my passport they for some reason did not write my previous last name, and used the name before it as the last name, so when I applied it was all with the new name in the new passport but the documents I supplied like the divorce certificate has the old name. I wanted to go and fix the passport but we already applied with the new name. I just thought to ask and see if someone had the same issue like mine. I was advised to get an affidavit saying that I am the same person.

I will join the link you sent and I really appreciate your replay . Thank you  MoHanu.

If your are going with your old name like in Birth Certificate yes you can call USCIS and ask them how to correct it or send the affidative or do it here https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayTypoForm.do?entryPoint=init&sroPageType=typoError ( not sure if this would work or not tho) but if you decided to go with the birth certificate in my opinion you need to change the passport as well . Other wise this might haunt you down in a future. If you have the old passport I don't it's hard to change it but I would call both USCiS and Ethiopian immigration to see which one is faster way.
