  3. My fiance just got here with me. She has been here for 3 days now. She just came from her family in Phil then stopped by two different families before coming here.

    I was wondering if anyone has any tips for getting over the homesickness.

    Thanks

    hi,

    you can encourage her to volunteer, that helps a lot. Also I dont mind talking to her at all. Tell her to email me and we can chat and I can fill her up about life here in the US. I am working full time almost after I got here so I did not have time to be homesick...

  4. hello;

    I have married exactly 5 yrs on Oct 8...I would say, it has been blissful. I came here from PH in 5/2008 and started working full time right away on 12/2008 to present. My husband works full time too but we managed to spend quality time together at nights and weekends. I have 3 kids and no common child together. Our marriage has been happy one and we never had big problems adjusting at all. My husband is an extremely good father to my kids and a good provider. We are planning to buy our first house next year and look forward to long and happy marriage.

  5. wow, after reading your post, I felt lucky. I came here in Florida from the Philippines on 5/23/2008, got my working permit on 8/2008, I starting looking for a job like crazy everyday for months...I was not so concerned about meeting friends then but I did meet good people along the way. On Dec 16, 2008 I was hired as intake specialist in RWB (Regional Work Force Board) at the local One Stop Center and after 4 months I was promoted to case manager and with God's mercy still employed up to now. Do you have a local One Stop at your area? One of the things we do is help find people jobs, although the department I am in is Welfare Transition,( I managed people applying for cash assistance) but our common goal (One Stop) is to help people find suitable employment so we also do job matching from time to time. I did start as a volunteer first and then when one position opened I applied. I had people applied through snag a job, career builder, monster.com etc, which I am sure you already know of. I would like to suggest you go to your local One Stop Center.
