Caboose29 got a reaction from beloved_dingo in Should I get a fiancee or spouse visa (new couple looking for help)?
As someone who’s already been through the process as a K1, AND received the green card in less than 12 months, I would still strongly recommend going the CR1 route.  I think the overall timeline will be very similar, but will be much less stressful on the back end with the CR1.

I’m surprised no has mentioned the tax benefit of going CR1 as well. It’s my understanding that as soon as you are married you can claim her on you taxes, even before she arrives stateside, thus possibly reducing your expenses even more.

If she gets an ITIN and if she agrees to let the IRS tax her world wide income. Given U.S. does not double tax, it is likely a net benefit  to the couple.

A lot depends on the country involved.  My wife managed to get stateside in 11 months.  So the estimates mentioned here may be pessimistic. If I had to do it over again, I’d probably do CR1.

As someone who went the K1 route and endured the copious amounts of cow caca on the other end, if it’s at all possible, get the CR1.

You already have your answer on the 'fastest' way, but I think you should consider more than just a timeline. Consider what is the best situation for you as a couple, and more importantly, for the foreign national. Having them stuck in the US while doing the adjustment of status is not an ideal situation to be in, even if that means that they managed to get into the US a smidge earlier than if you would have done the CR1. Talk about this with your partner and make a decision that is a little less shortsighted than "we want to be together as soon as possible"

Do the CR1, you will not regret it.

Caboose29 reacted to millefleur in Executive Order: Now illegal to send USD to anyone in Russia?
I'm aware of that. But that's not what the EO says. It says between "any US person" and "any person located in the RF" (so, not even Russian citizens, but anyone who happens to be located there.) It also does not specific a dollar amount, so basically now bringing $1 USD as a USC and giving it to any person who happens to be in Russia is now basically illegal.

I find it a ridiculous overreach that is not based on anything related to "national security." Banning certain people in Russia? Makes total sense, such as oligarchs and other "persons of interest" - name them then. Banning the RF government? Absolutely. But "any person" who just happens to be located in Russia?? We're not even at war with Russia, I don't understand the legal justification for this.

Can you not just buy them tickets via an American site like Kayak and pay with your American card? Just put the tickets in their name.

You will be denied boarding on US bound flight if you don’t have a CDC approved vaccination and are “fully” vaccinated.

My fiancé had Sputnik. She had to vaccinate with Johnson and Johnson while in Poland doing her interview.

As far as I know, currently only one injection is required for J&J, although it is recommended a second booster injection.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but "until they're done".  No one knows how soon it will be completed, but maybe you can contact the embassy to inquire.  It will at least "remind" them that you're still waiting.

This general guides apply to people who are required to file for Adjustment of Status once they enter the US to maintain their legal status. This applies to certain non-immigrant visa holders with a K1, K3, and others. Once you file you will have several options available to track your case.

    Review the following:
Please read the Step-by-Step Guide to AOS What is Adjustment of Status? Please read the Step-by-Step Guide(s) on getting a Social Security Number and initial or a renewal EAD. Here are two documents that describe your rights and responsibilities as a Legal US Permanent Resident:
