  1. Hello everyone! Following this. My mom was DQ’d on Sept 17. Hoping that she gets her interview soon. My sister, living in the U.K. with the intent to return to the US is the sponsor. If she receives a job offer with an imminent start date, will that be a basis for expediting the interview? Not sure if anyone knows or not, I thought to ask.

Did anyone here use tax returns instead of transcripts? Where they accepted?

I'm filing under the streamlined procedure and it will be quicker to use tax returns rather than wait who knows how long for IRS transcripts.

Plus I'm wondering what I'm supposed to put for current income on the I864... I won't have an income by the time I move back to the states.

I used tax returns as I also filed under streamline. I sent the returns by certified mail and gave my husband (British spouse) a copy to show the officer at the interview.

With COVID, there is no chance of them even sending out transcripts. I filed in July and they have processed it!

If you don’t already have a joint sponsor, I suggest you write an accompanying letter explaining you are using the assets to qualify for income. Income would remain 0 and the assets would bump it.

on a separate note- for anyone already in the US with their SO, how long did it take for the SSN to come through? Husband is moving over shortly and just wondering how long it takes.

Although we have now decided (reluctantly) on a Joint Sponsor, I am still searching for a definitive answer to my query. I approached a UK Immigration Lawyer. They propose an hours consultation at £750 + vat to answer my query. How do they get away with this????

By all means levy a charge but at least be reasonable.

You are able to use assets to supplement any shortfall and it is calculated x3. Just make sure you can prove the source of funds and bank statements confirming the location. Apparently they must be in the account for 12 months but I’m showing them what I have and seeing what happens. Worse case, they ask for a joint sponsor.

Not at all. We got approved on May 14th.

thanks all! :) I genuinely thought they forgot about us!

now the dreaded scramble for interviews! On another note, if anyone can offer some clarification- do we need to submit the DS form before looking for interviews? My husband is in England while I am in the States, so collaboratively working with each other’s schedules right now is proving to be tougher than we anticipated, so going through that form together might take some time.

Still nothing today in either post or email. :(

Obsessively following you and the rest of the gang waiting for this mystical number. 😢

my morning routine involves me checking the forum to see who has got their number so to give me hope ours is on the way. Surely they wouldn’t have lost the few people who applied for DCF in its dying moments- is what I keep telling myself. Haha.

  6. I really hope those of us remaining to get this number get it this week.

I have been away from my husband for over a month now and this weekend really got to me. It feels all the more worse because going through DCF was supposed to be quicker etc. The fact that it’s more unknown than the other way just really finishes you.

Praying for good news this week!! Next Monday is Labor Day so, it’s a short week and doing they’ll get much done. Good vibes to you all!!

I didn’t think things were back to pre-COVID.
    In my family in Oxfordshire:

Daughter- not back to work yet. On unemployment.

    Son- working from home

    Sister- let go

Brother in law- working from home

Brother- working from home, except one day a week in office.

The embassy is running again, but the whole crew is not back in the building everyday, much like my family members are not back in their pre-COVID routine.

I guess it’s area specific then. I have family in Manchester and my spouse is also in Manchester, who have said people are back to working in offices and life has pretty much resumed again. So, I assumed that was the case elsewhere too.

In NY and I’m back at the office. I work in law and we are back to filing, handling court appearances (virtually), etc., so really makes me wonder why the process only slows down when it comes to immigration. As all other areas of law have resumed it seems.

Do you actually have a file in the system? I mean if your cases arrived from London USCIS office but have not been given a case number and entered into the system, then is there anything to look up?  Can you log on to CEAC and see your status?

    Everything??

I have been told by an experienced immigration attorney that USCIS cross referenced all petitions filed for X beneficiary, so I assume there is a cloud based filed.

And I apologize, I meant everything has resumed in the sense that Pre-Covid, the economy and offices are running again, so why isn’t the embassy.

  9. The frustrating aspect is A) they have no system, so we cannot even estimate a date and plan according and B) when you do reach out to them, they disregard/ignore the actual contents of the email, without giving a proper response.

it cant be that hard to check the status on files by entering the beneficiary’s name! All systems work in this manner, shocking that the embassy doesn’t. Such inefficient processes.

sorry for the friday rant. I genuinely thought it was going to be a 3-4 month process, which fine, was impacted by COVID, but everything else has resumed, so why has this not?!

Since you are in the DCF topic, are you a USC living in the UK? Do you have a job in the US now? Or one that will continue exactly same job/employer/salary when you move to the US? If not, you need a joint sponsor.

Thank you for your response! It makes sense now! And yes, USC was in the UK, but  Have now moved back to start my new job while the OH waits it out in the UK :(.

I saw the public charge thing flying around in another post... isn’t that only required for AOS filings? Or have I completely misread that? Are we required to file the i-944(can’t recall the actually form, but I am sure you all know which one I am referring to) even with the DCF process?

  11. Here’s to a good week for us all!

I have been thinking about the I-864 lately and wanted to run something by you all, hopefully someone knows more about it...

In regards to the i864, if I have filed my taxes for the last 3 years (just going through the streamline Process so should be filed soon) and made less than the poverty level for 2 of the recent years, but my current income (Starting from now, so no tax returns filed) exceeds it, would I need a joint sponsor because of the previous years? Or is it possible to supplement my income via assets. Assets will be the cash my non-US Spouse has in his account in the UK and my cash in both my UK/US account.

I wonder whether the i864 looks at current income or whether it is judged by previous income, just not sure.

  12. It’s been 7 weeks since our approval and no LDN number yet. Shock.

We contacted the embassy through their web form, which they promptly responded to and advised we liaise with USCIS, which obviously isn’t the agency dealing with DCF. So we emailed them again, clearly stating we are processing through the DCF process etc, and surprisingly no response.

Who knows when anyone will be able to get the process started again. Very depressing waiting for an email letting us know we can resume planning out our move. Everything is at such a halt, frustrating isn’t the word.

With the holiday out of the way, let’s see whether they can start getting those numbers out.

congrats to everyone who has received their approval letter!!

Does anyone have any good links or tips for filing from abroad?

So first time filer, I’m getting caught up with everything in the past. I’m using Expat Tax Online - https://www.expattaxonline.com

i found them on reddit as someone recommended them and they were a reasonable price. I ended up negotiating and got a fantastic deal on the streamlined process. Waaaay cheaper than anyone else I’ve seen. So far they’ve been amazing. I can’t say much else as I’ve only started the process but definitely enquire and negotiate.

I’m filing married separately because obviously my husband doesn’t have an SSN or ITIN so his income isn’t considered at all. The accountants said this is the preferable route otherwise the UKC’s income comes into it and also a taxable amount.
