I'm from England and live in Wyoming after entering on a K1. I had to take the full driving test too, (including the written test - I think it was about 60 questions, although they were all mainly very simple.) If you have a UK license and have adapted to driving in the US fine then I doubt you'll have a problem with the driving test in the US - it is MUCH easier than the UK test.
I applied at my local SSA office for a social security card not long after entering the country on a K1, (before getting married), and despite initially being turned away as being ineligible to apply for one, I stood my ground and told them they were mistaken before eventually they checked their systems and accepted my application. The card arrived in the mail about 4-5 days later.

That's great! I hope mine comes in a few days too so I can give Laura plenty of time to book the day off work to be on child-care duty while I drive down to Colorado for my biometrics.

Hello Visa Journey. Been awhile, but here I am again.
We have filed my wife's I-751 and her current 2 year green card is due to expire November 19th 2010. Will this effect her seeking employment since the green card will eventually look "expired".
We havent received an NOA yet, but our checks have been cashed.

I apologize to the OP as I don't have any good advice myself, (I wish I could help but I don't know the intricacies of the system), although I wish you the very best of luck in resolving your current dilemma and am sorrowful your new life and marriage didn't work out as intended.
I simply had to respond to the post below though and say that this post epitomizes everything that is fantastic about VJ --- excellent advice, objectively put with no agenda other than helping a fellow person. Brilliant - and kudos to you. Advice like this is priceless when it is correct and informed.

this morning, when answering your question, I was on my netbook, an typing on it is like pulling teeth with a coat hanger.
Here's the way this is going to work for you:
If your Green Card expires in December, you will send your singularly filed I-751 about 9 days before it expires. Use USPS Express Mail for it. About 10 days later you will have your NOA1, which extends your card's expiration date by 1 year.
Another few weeks into the game they will notice that you did not enclose a divorce decree. They will send you an RFE for it. Usually you have just under 90 days to respond. By the time it's due we'll have March 2011.
If you are still not divorced by then, USCIS will start deportation proceedings against you. That's totally automatic, done by brainless drones. Since it takes the decision of an immigration judge to terminate residency of a Green Card holder residing in the US, you'll get a day in court. And it's April already.
If you are not divorced by April, you will hire a lawyer to represent you in court. That lawyer will ask the judge to put deportation proceedings on halt until your divorce is final and you can respond to the RFE. That is usually granted, unless you are a really bad boy.
Once divorced, your attorney sends the divorce decree to USCIS who then will finally adjudicate your I-751. If you can prove that you entered the marriage in good faith, your ROC petition should be approved.
P.S.
I think it's okay to provide a good cover letter, explaining your situation. Make sure you are not emotional, but clearly state what's going on.

Hi,
I have a small issue with the information displayed below my photo in the forums. It says "Filed for: Adjustment of Status (pending)" despite my Adjustment of Status being long approved, (and my timeline is up to date to reflect that too.)
The only thing I can see that perhaps is causing the confusion is that I never applied for AP, so those fields are totally blank in my profile. Of course I could put dummy dates in there, but I'm loathe to put false information into my time line if I can avoid it.
Could someone please advise what the best route to having my information accurately reflect my current situation would be?

Well, my bank account has gotten smaller... I was surprised to see this so soon. I-751 package arrived Oct 7, check chased and cleared Oct 8. They do NOT waste any time taking our money
Anyway, it's good to know we are "in the system." We filed late in our 90-day window, so any problem might have meant some stress over whether our application would be in before the deadline.
Our check, (I still want to write "cheque" as I'm from England!) was cashed today also. No doubt our NOA1's will be on the way soon then and our residency will be extended a year while the ten year petition is processed.

Hi All,
Can someone Please help us with this confusion we are facing ...... My Husband has been granted a 2 years of conditional GC through our marriage. It is almost the time that he has to apply to remove this condition from his GC, here are the questions that we are going round the circles from different sources giving us different answers.
Questions:
1. When they mention on USCIS website and all these other sites, that you MUST apply within the 90 days window no LATTER and no EARLIER, What exactly this 90 days mean ?
2. 90 business days? This means 20 days from each month?
3. what about weekends and holidays ?

You need to file during the 90 calendar days before the PR card expires, (this is inclusive of any weekends, holidays, etc.) So for example, if the permanent resident card expires 30th December, then you'd need to send in your I-751 petition after 2nd October. Be sure not to leave it too late to apply - give time in case your package is rejected for whatever reason without acceptance at USCIS, or it is lost in the mail, etc. The onus is on you and your partner to ensure the package is assembled, mailed and accepted at the relevant place.

RE: tax transcripts. I don't remember where I read about them, but it was somewhere in the removing conditions forum. I found these two threads when I searched:

Regardless, for anyone who hasn't filed yet who wants to include them - I forgot that you can have them faxed to you! It takes about 10 minutes. We don't have a fax machine so I didn't do that.

- Copy of the green card.
- Copy of NY state driver's license.
- Two notarized statements by U.S. citizen friends, attesting to our ongoing relationship.
- Copy of our tax returns for 2008 and 2009. (not the IRS transcript)
- Copies of expenses related to our jointly owned house: mortgage statement, electric bill, home insurance and property taxes.
- Copies of our joint bank account statement.
- Copy of our most recent joint car insurance policy.
- Copy of the title of our car showing joint ownership.
- Copy of our American Express statement and 2009 annual summary showing joint transactions.
- Copy of health insurance coverage showing all family members on the policy.
- Copy of a life insurance policy indicating beneficiary.
- Copy of our airline reservations for a trip that the family took to visit mom. Also included is a copy of a reservation for a vacation to be taken early next year.
- Other evidence including copies of some family photos as well as my stepson's very recent obituary which indicates family names.
Looks like a very good list to me, although as SerenityNOW says, we are in the same position at the moment, so don't have a great deal of experience. It might be worth tracking the threads for earlier months on this forum to see what other people sent and then clicking their timelines to see how their cases progressed based on the evidence listed.
Also, I'm very sorry to hear your sad news and wish you and your family every strength as you come to terms with your loss.

I would suggest it depends on the quality of your other evidence. An IRS transcript of joint tax returns is pretty good evidence compared to other commonly submitted documents in other areas of your relationship, but if you are sending plenty of other strong evidence, (joint mortgage documents, joint car ownership & insurance, etc. etc.), I can't see it being a problem.
For the record, I just sent a printout of the copy of our 2009 accounts that was emailed to us after we filed online with Turbotax. I'll await to see whether I get approved without interview or not with this alongside all the other evidence submitted.
