My wife got a similar 221g and so she sent in copies of some elementary school records. Also, the parish created a document that transcribed what was written in the baptismal. Because there were various spelling errors in the names in the documents, she included affidavits from her mother and father attesting to the errors in the spelling of the names. It went through no problem.

    Update on this:

We sent a response to USCIS today with about 150 pages of bank statements pages worth of 12 months from both of our banks (should have use credit card for minor purchases 😂).
We prepared new I-864 form without my (intending immigrant’s) income and the difference between my wife’s current part time job income and minimum income requirement is exceeded 7 times with assets. So it should, theoretically, be fine. Will post and update here when and if the interview happens.
Thank you all for inputs in the thread.

Are you sure you can't drive? My wife and I just moved to California and we spend most of yesterday dealing with the Kafkaesque DMV here (exceeded only by the USCIS) . My wife, who is K1/AOS, was able to get a drivers license in Washington, and at the end of the day was finally able to apply for an AB-60 license in California.

That doesn't help with a job, but it will get you out of the house at least.

For any marriage in trouble, I would recommend marriage counseling. In this case, perhaps bringing receipts for payments to the counselor would demonstrate a bonafide attempt to work things out. If there is no interview, but you are divorced later, then bringing the receipts to the n400 interview might help there also.

The thought that comes to mind is that your fiance is having second thoughts and doesn't have the strength to speak you. It would be worth contacting your fiance's friends, relatives, or even workplace to find out if something else happened.

As sad as this is, it is much better to find out now before you leave to go to another country.

JonSeattle got a reaction from ilikepotatoes in Proving a bonafide relationship with limited time together
There will need to be some evidence of a bonafide relationship, but not at the level of a marriage. You get a K-1 by first filing a I-129F, which is pretty easy. Just submit proof that you met in person at least once within the 2 years of the time you file the I-129F. Once that is approved, your fiance will need be interviewed at the embassy. At that time you will show evidence of an ongoing relationship up to that time. That can be samples of chat logs, proof of visits, etc. The standard that is applied depends on the level of visa fraud in the country the fiance is emigrating from. There will also need to be the usual collection of original birth certificates, background checks, etc.

The downside of the K-1 is that once the fiance arrives in the US, they are not authorized to work or to leave and re-enter the US until completing a process that takes many months. After that is when you need to prove that the marriage is bonafide.

My husband and I married on the first visit and we didn't have any issues. I think 1-2 months is decent amount of time, the more the better. It isn't like you plan to get married and turn around and leave the next day. When I married my husband I had no idea what visa journey was, I didn't discover this site until long after I sent the 1-130 so I had no idea it was a red flag to marry on the first visit, Hell, I had no idea what a red flag even was and trust men, we had lots of them(including being 21 years older than he is).

I can remember when I first joined VJ, so many people said we would never last because of our red flags and age difference and guess what? This year is our 10th wedding anniversary and I'm glad to report that we are even happier now than we were when we were married.

You might as well print out one recent mortgage statement, just in case. It could establish that you have a place to stay that is suitable for 3 people.

If you do a significant amount of spend on credit cards, you should print out a few months instead of just 1. In my opinion that would be pretty strong evidence.

JonSeattle got a reaction from eckoin in Can I join my local government's citizen advisory committee as a permanent resident?
I was on a committee that sounds like that and found it very worthwhile. You could contact the chairperson and others to see how they would feel about you becoming involved without being a voting member. For the committee I was on, we sat in the front of the hall for Town Meeting, and there was a separate section where non-voters would sit so they wouldn't get counted in town votes.  But if you have proof that non-citizens are allowed to vote in your locality, then it seems to me that there would be no problem.

Louisiana is #69 on this ranking. No doubt it's a fine program, but I'm not sure that would qualify for a "one of the best" label.

My son transferred from a community college to a bachelor's program higher on that list, so it can be done.

You should be read carefully about whether such a degree is a good investment.

Getting an education in another country is a great way to expand your horizons. I have heard that in can be difficult in some case to show sufficient ties to your home country to get a visa, so be sure to be ready for that.
