Wow, thanks for the link.  As I suspected, once again the SSN staff do not know their own policies.  Will call again and ask for a supervisor, thank you.

It's not unusually that an RFE can ask for something you already submitted. According to the RFE it is looking for the "long form" BC which list the parents. If yous does list your parents and you feel it's the long form for your country then I suggest resubmitting it as you have it. Good luck.

Finally we have received our SSN card.  I believe I had to call the office over fifty times - I was probably hung up on about 40 times which was infuriating.  Anyways, here is how we got the card for the next people getting ready for the battle:

We mailed our SS-5 application a few days after my fiance's arrival.  After two weeks we called to set up an appointment and were told that K-1 is not eligible for an SSN because they can't work.  Knowing this wasn't true we said as much and were told to call back the next day for a supervisor. The next day a supervisor told us that K-1 is "not a priority" for SSN's at the moment.  I insisted that we are eligible for a card, and they ultimately gave us an appointment. Showed up for the appointment - they didn't have us on the schedule.  Not only that, "they had never received" (read: lost) our application!  Fortunately we brought copies, and gave handed off all the copies to a polite employee who said he would send the application that day One week later we call to check and are told that because we have already filed for EAD (Employment Authorization) there was a "conflict" and we were no longer eligible for a number.  Were transferred to supervisor who never picked up the phone. The next day received a voicemail from a new person that wanted to schedule our appointment, which had already happened.  Called and confusion all around. Finally, exactly two weeks after our appointment, our case showed up in SAVE.  We called and were told the card was approved and would be received in 3-5 business days. Received the card 5 business days later. This whole process took two full months.  If we had not relentlessly called and hounded the office, we would not have gotten a number in time before our I-94 expired.  Everything I read on VJ was true - the SS office has no idea what they are doing when it comes to immigration.

This is how it works in most states ( Other than California, you don't even have to be in the US legally and they hand out drivers license like candy on Halloween). Same here in Nevada as what you are going thru. My wife got her first ID a few weeks after entering and we had her social security card. Just needed I-94, Passport, 2 utility bills ( To get Real ID). They were able to check her in the SAVE system in about 30 seconds. Going without the I-94 won't matter, as the expiration date is in the SAVE system. Since you waited until the I-94 was expired, you will have to wait until you get EAD or AP card and go back. My wifes first ID was only good for about 80 days as it expired when the I-94 did. Her second ID was only good for about a year until her EAD/AP card expired. She wasn't able to get a full term ( 8 Year) ID until she had her green card. You are currently in the states eyes not here legally. Your legal resident stay ended with the expiration of the I94. You now have a letter( I-797) giving you authorized stay until your AOS is adjudicated. It is just authorized stay, it is not Legal residence. I tried multiple times, and even drove to the main DMV office in Carson City ( 8 Hour drive), and spoke to the director of the DMV. And she pointed out the exact same thing posted here...
The SAVE System will not update again until you are issued your EAD/AP card, and again when you get your Green Card. The I-797 granting you authorized stay is just that, it does not convey any legal residential status, so the SAVE system does not update when you get it. You are probably out of luck with getting anything from the DMV.

What do I need to bring to the Social Security office?

You need to prove your identity and work-authorized immigration status.
To prove your identity and work-authorized immigration status, show us your current U.S. immigration documents and your unexpired foreign passport. the following proofs are either or
as you will not have I 551 or EAD but I 94

Acceptable immigration documents include your: •
Form I-551 (Lawful Permanent Resident Card, Machine-Readable Immigrant Visa); •
Admission stamp showing a class of admission permitting work; • Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record); or •
    Form I-766 (Employment Authorization Document/EAD)

There is no need to argue with them. Print the above page and take it with you. Per there own instructions K1s are allowed to work and therefore eligible for a SSN.

SSA will verify the information you give them with that database. It would show you if DHS is still working on it or if they already gave it back to SSA. If you can't find anything then nothing happened with your application so far.

But from what you say you only sent in the application form without your spouses passport? Well then you're correct, nothing could have happened since they need original documents and the month you have waited so far was unfortunately wasted.

Good luck at your appointment. Don't let them win 😉

WRONG.  W9 is used if someone already has an SSN or ITIN and is used by companies to get the number on record.  This is NOT the form to be assigned a number.   That is the W7.

Incorrect. According to the SSA guideline, K1 is within the categories of Alien Allowed to Work, even when you apply within the first 75 days, so that's what you must select. When I applied for mine I selected "allowed to work" and everything went through perfectly.

Wonderful news.  When you say issued, does that mean it is on its way in the mail?  We have our interview June 7 and are curious how long the visa will come afterwards if approved.  Thanks.

Very happy to say our visa was approved on Monday and was issued today!  A very long wait over.
We were asked three questions - how did you meet, where does your fiance live, and how long have you lived in Thailand (partner is Burmese).
Apparently there were somewhere around 20 K-1 interviews that morning and most were only 5-10mins long.
Good luck to everybody else in line.

We found and earlier slot for June 7.  As long as this slot does not get canceled, it will be a little over two weeks better than the other.

Ok that’s good. The embassy should realize if they take a few seconds longer to reply to a message instead of providing a boilerplate response, maybe it will save numerous follow up emails and lower their email count.

Our interview was cancelled for May 18 😔 due to Covid.  They opened up some interview dates and we are now scheduled June 24.  However, maybe they will wait until a week before that date and cancel it as well.

J+J got a reaction from TBoneTX in Possible to use I-134 joint sponsor at Bangkok Consulate
I have never heard that the Thai embassy would not allow for a joint sponsor, in fact I've never heard that any embassy wouldn't allow joint sponsors.

Forget about borrowing money, a large single deposit into your account doesn't look good and could also look deceitful.  If you still don't feel you have a strong financial case then you should do a joint sponsor, and be fully aware of all the responsibilities and liabilities that will be imposed on the person who sponsors you.

By the way, the embassy is extremely responsive via e-mail, they might directly answer if they consider joint sponsors; though it is possible they will reply with a very generic statement such as "We recommend to follow the instructions in I-134 and cannot comment on financial situations prior to the interview" 🙄

J+J got a reaction from Coin3 in BKK Embassy canceling interviews?
Regarding the possibility of the embassy closing, my understanding is that the embassy is instructed to follow local regulations.  So, if there is a lockdown we might expect the embassy to close.

That then begs the question, will the Thai government impose a lock down?  My (uneducated) opinion is that they won't.  I have heard that if a "lockdown" is implemented, that obligates the government to provide financial support to businesses that are forced to close.  Rather than take that path they will do everything they can other than lockdown to flatten the curve.  Those things being quarantine requirements for interprovincial travel, closing businesses early, banning alcohol sales, mask mandaets, etc. - just yesterday they removed the waiver for tourists to quarantine for only 7 days if vaccinated.

I'd love to hear if anybody who knows better than I do has an opinion on this.

I suppose all we can do is keep our fingers cross that the surge drops, I think that it will and fairly quickly.

I am trying to see if there is a way to do this without gambling the date we already have.  From further reading on this forum, it would look like the answer is "no" and you have to cancel the interview you have in order to book a new one, but I hope somebody tells me otherwise.

That is wrong information. The individual has to be on US soil before the expiration date based on the local time and not the time they left. Also, I would never recommend to leave the day before because if the traveler experiences delays of any sort and then lands after the visa expires then he will be turned away at immigration.
The expiration date of your visa is the last day you may use the visa to enter the United States. It does not indicate how long you may stay in the United States. Your stay is determined by the Department of Homeland Security at your port of entry. As long as you comply with the Department of Homeland Security decision on the conditions of your stay, you should have no problem.
