Maybe if people stop calling them face diapers and rather say virus spreading blockers, then people would be more likely to wear them? Just a thought.  Ya know since the countries that had the least amount of whingeing by their citizens seem to be doing the best?

I don't mean to make light at the expense of the folks here but I love the title "Corona Virus Embassy closed"
I was unaware the country of Corona Virus had an embassy here, but in light of the current circumstances, we should revoke their diplomatic credentials and send them packing! 😷😁😷

The NFL does enjoy antitrust exemptions and benefits from public financing of stadiums and infrastructure, so it is not merely a private business.  Take away those props the equation changes.

Goodell is struggling to stay afloat with the sudden shift in public opinion. Last year it appeared that appealing to white mainstream Americans was the best play. Now  white Americans have shifted their perspective. In the end, you are right, it's about money, it's a business.

If you haven't noticed, the protests have gotten significantly more peaceful and larger over the weekend. The protests are back to being what they were supposed to be about: communities saying that a change needs to happen, and soon. We drove up PCH today into Malibu and then down into Topanga Canyon, then over through the Valley before going through Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. All along the way we saw protests, mostly small ones, a few people or a few dozen people, holding signs stating No Justice No Peace, or Black Lives Matter. People in their cars honked their support and yelled out "thank you!" to the protesters. Not that it matters much, but most of the protesters were white.

My city was torn up, people have suffered great losses here. But there was no loss of life. I'm sorry but for me, a life is worth more than property. There's always more money to be earned, even if it is hard to get, but once a life is gone, that's it. We support the protests in this house but we are not taking part directly because of health concerns -- while I might not have had COVID19, I was very sick for quite a long time. My immune system is not the greatest right now.

Pay attention to the signal, not the noise. The noise is getting weaker and weaker and the signal is loud and clear.

But why did she change her mind? Is it because she's spiteful or insensitive, or because she is trying to ensure the health of her citizens with a limited and tailored move?

This is a health emergency; things change. It is up to our governments to be nimble and meet challenges as they develop.

I have been in Maine in June.  It is not exactly freezing during the day, even in Aroostock County which is up in the way, way north. I've spent time in York County and this time of year it's usually in the 70s. Just checked the weather there and it's going to be 83 on Friday, almost 20 degrees warmer than it's going to be here!

That piece is incomplete and misleading. It plays down that restaurants in those counties are cleared for outdoor service, and doesn't mention that a deal has been struck with prisons in the state to buy excess food from restaurants in those counties. Only dine-in service has been postponed. The author does himself a disservice by leaving out the complete picture.

It also says that the restaurants can't reopen. That simply isn't true.
Restaurants can reopen with outdoor dining.

Well, to split hairs, orange ones(forgive me)
The comparison of people of color as fill in the blank (not just African heritage's but Asian and others) has a long tradition that is connected to establishing non-whites as sub human. When an entire group is subhuman, it allows the majority to allow subhuman subjecation ? spelling?

Not everyone who is of Trump's heritage has been labeled orange or ape-like or mango like or narcissistic so it is not an attack on Trump's heritage, race, ethinicity. It is an attack on him. Is that attack warranted, advised, fair or productive? Probably not, but it is not an attack on his race.

I am not seeing that, at least in the context of Trump. I am open to dialog though.

Obama was born with African heritage and brown skin.
Trump's skin is orange because of a spray on tan. George Hamilton made fun of himself in a KFC commercial for the tan.  How is this comparable? Trump has created a brand for himself with artificial trappings, if they make him or break him, he was not born that way.

Voldy blew up our engagement with that move. If he had just posted it and said hey, look at my girl, I think I would have felt less offended. It was the words that went along with it, basically saying that he'd flattered me into thinking I had a brain when it was clear what I was really good at. And it is very true that private pics don't stay private, even in a closed forum, or else I would never have found out.

90DayFinancier reacted to laylalex in Sexist forum posts hundreds of private images of Australian female journalists and celebrities
It's a lesson I learned the hard way. You think you can trust someone you're engaged to and have known for a long time not to betray that trust, but ultimately it comes down to a character issue. I didn't put the image on the internet myself, I sent it via email. It wasn't stolen so much as exploited. For that reason every picture I've ever shared since then of myself is G-rated.

But deeper than my own experience, what is it in these men that makes them think they are somehow entitled to dissect images of women this way? I'm not talking about appreciating what a woman looks like, that's not my issue. I'm talking about why "appreciation" veers into exploitation and denigration of the woman as a human by focusing only on how "hot" or not she is. What can we do to try to help boys from participating in this culture? It doesn't advance equality, which really does benefit everyone in the long term.

It is important that immigrants (especially non-European immigrants) show support for protests against systemic racism in America towards black people.
I know that it is easy to sit on the fence as an immigrant in this country and see it as a 'black people' issue and not care or worse buy into the prejudices and biases against black people in America.
I have been in that boat before until I had a chance to learn the history of America (especially on the civil rights movements and immigration in America).

If you are a non-European immigrant in America, it is important to know that your ability to immigrate to this beautiful country is BECAUSE of the fight by black people (and with the support of allies - whites, jews etc.) that helped make this happen. The immigration system in America was NEVER originally intended for non-European people. Over the cause of America's history, there had been variations of the law that was intended to prevent immigration by non-European Americans and most prominently was the Immigration Act of 1924 which used the National Origins Formula to legally prevent and restrict immigration to the US by non-Europeans for the purpose of "to preserve the ideal of American [Northwestern European] homogeneity".

It took Martin Luther King and some key proponents of the Civil Rights act to cast light on this discriminatory and racist policy to force Lyndon B. Johnson and Congress to repeal and amend this racist law via the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

So yes, if you are a non-European immigrant (Indian, African, Latino, Asian etc.), it is important to know this piece of history and understand that it took the black civil rights to make you able to immigrate here today. America was built on racism but it doesn't have to remain so. We've come a long way in undoing a lot of the racist policies of the US and we need to keep doing so - together.

It is very refreshing to see people of ALL diverse backgrounds, race, religion etc. rallying together against this cause. We all need to keep up the good fight and make America the greatest country on planet Earth.

90DayFinancier reacted to NikLR in Murder charge elevated to 2nd degree in George Floyd case; all four officers now face charges
Does it matter if he had a criminal past? Chauvin had at least 12 complaints about over use of force and violation of a prisoner's constitutional rights.  So we're dealing with a cop who also uses the law in his favor to be malicious and forceful withoit reason.

Being an addict will make people do things they wouldn't do otherwise.  Addicts are not necessarily scum. We dont say that Robert Downey Jr is scum and yet he's been to court over his addictions. But because he's white and has money, well he got rehab instead of jail.

Do any of us on this thread live in predominantly black neighbourhoods? Do we know what it's like to grow up there? I don't.

If you're defending this cop at all by trying to point out that George Floyd had a criminal past, then you're wrong. A black person died while crying for help at the hands of a police officer. This is wrong. Unless he was actively shooting at the cop at the time, he didn't deserve to die. He certainly did not deserve to be strangled with a knee on his neck with 4 cops near him. 4 people who are supposed to protect and serve. 4 people we should be able to turn to if we're in trouble. Instead we're worried if they will help. Black people are worried that asking for help will get them shot or arrested. Complying with police can still get you beat up. There needs to be more accountability for police.  There are good police officers and they need to be ones we think of. There can be no bad apples when protect and serve is your creed.
