90DayFinancier reacted to laylalex in Ex-Fox News reporter Courtney Friel claims Donald Trump invited her to Trump Tower to ‘kiss’
Posted to see what the replies might be, was not disappointed.

As a woman who has been objectified, sorry, still IS objectified, on a regular basis, I can tell you that this kind of thing is normalized in our society. I have written before about how it's almost banal to me how men feel entitled to say things to me about how I look, and that I know the difference between a compliment (no problem with those) and an unwanted come on -- and most women know the difference. I am in this body, and this is how I look when I walk out into the world. I'm not looking for anyone to validate my existence as being pleasant or unpleasant. I don't need to hear if a man thinks I look hot or (as a guy in a bar said to me the other week when I was out having a drink with a female friend) like I am "DTF."

Friel's conventionally attractive, so am I. I am very aware of the privileges that this gives me in the world. But it also means that I get BS like Friel got from Trump simply by existing outside the home. All of your fantasies about men hunkering down and not wanting to be around women aren't coming true. Is there anecdata that seems to indicate it is true? Probably. But men have got to understand that women do not exist to be pleasant to look at or be around. We are humans, like you. We should earn respect, just like you. I

f men cannot exist in the universe without objectifying women or flinging about sleazy come ons in professional settings or touching people without consent, they need to figure out why women object to this behavior. It's not overreacting to say, "I am not just how I look" or "Ask for my permission before you touch me." No one is saying men can't flirt with women they are attracted to, or vice versa. But what is acceptable in a club or a bar is NOT acceptable in a workplace, unless you work in a "gentleman's club." And even there, no touching! How is this difficult? There's a pretty simple rule: don't be gross. It's not difficult.

Friel asked Trump for a job. He asked her up to his office for a kiss. In what universe does this make sense as acceptable behavior?

Very unusual phenomenon. It is not poorly educated, lower income or socially isolated groups. It feels more like a cult, but what personality drives the movement?

I have worked around technicians, testers and programmers for two decades, regardless of how proud they act, what they do ain't brain surgery. There is a lot of work in IT. Project, support, hr, technical writing. Once you get your first gig, there is plenty of opportunity.

I think who is being elitist are those who insist that these folks need to stay in these risky (Mitch McConnell refuses to bring black lung funding to the Senate) body breaking jobs like they were serfs born to the coal mine.

I don't know why Americans continue to lie to coal workers: production will drop below 1950s levels and will not return. Any rebound in the us will be with automation and not workers.

The man needs to a come to terms with the fact that he did not execute.  He has been whining about the system and racism and Joe Biden but he was a Latino Cabinet member appointed by Americas first black President. How has the system hurt him? If Amy Klobuchar was in the lead he would say it's about race.

Very value added in business operations, marketing, sales, finance.

The folks who are out of touch are the politicians who act like those coal jobs are coming back, they aren't and even if the mines open, it will be with job killing automation.

West Virginia’s young people problem is well documented: In 2016, the state was the only one to report a drop in birth rates and an increase in outward migration–both are attributable to young people leaving the state, and staying away.

Natalie Roper is one of the few who’s stayed, and she heads up a nonprofit, Generation West Virginia, whose aim is to support opportunities for young people to build up their own careers and the economy in the state overall–and importantly, to stay (the organization sells shirts that say “Here for the Long Haul Y’All“). Generation WV offers a fellowship program that places twentysomethings at local companies; last year saw fellows go to a design firm in Charleston, an environmental consulting firm in Morgantown, and Core10, a fintech firm in Huntington

Working with several millennial IT professionals, it seems their training is lacking in failure mode effects analysis.  They seem to think that glitches which come up with their written code are just minor issues to be corrected in the future.  Of course when that code impacts large numbers of products in the field, it can become quite costly which could have been avoided if the problems were analyzed prior to putting the code in production.

Just asked Al about this as he just woke up and is the person around here who codes. He said in his experience that's a leadership problem more than a generational one -- they had to learn it from somewhere.

Not in my opinion, but to each their own. My grandfather would never let anyone tell him what he could or couldn't do, and he made a point to learn a multitude of different trades. If he was still alive now I could see my husband teaching him all sorts of stuff.

That being said the path is a hard one and filled with scams. Ridiculous story on the subject can be found here... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/12/us/mined-minds-west-virginia-coding.html
Still, even a good chunk of these people found some successful path forward.
