Once someone gets to the states they expect that person to support the whole family and then some. They must learn to remember that you have to survive here in the states that is not cheap as well. If you dont put ur foot down it will continue. Why should they be self supporting when you and your wife are supporting them?

An attorney to file a K1 is a waste of money. You are basically paying an attorney to put information down on a form that must all come directly from you and your fiance. I have helped a couple of people to file and they got through. You are better off just following the information on this website.

I do suggest you take a look at the guides on here. The medical and Affidavit of support come a lot later. Right now you need the I-130 application, form G-325A 1 for you and 1 for your husband. He will need to sign the G-325A himself (his copy). You will need passport photo 1 of you and 1 of him. A copy of the marraige certificate, and a letter from a witness who attended. A copy front and back of your birth certificate, if you were ever divorced a court copy of that, copy of all the pages in your passport to show travel, and copies of Western union receipts, phone records, top offs that you might have done for him, pictures from your wedding and other pictures. The cost is $420.00. Timelines vary and there is no answer to why this happens. Again take a look at the guide for filing the I-130 here on VJ. Please make sure all applications are complete. The timelines will vary with no specific reason given. Sometimes a K1 will take the same amount of time as the I-130. The one thing I can tell you is that with the I-130 your husband will come over as a LPR with a greencard whereas with the K1 you will have some costly paperwork to file once you are married. The greencard will be conditional if married less then two years. At least he will be able to apply for his SS card as soon has he arrives in the US and can began working. The benefit is the cost!
