SuznAaron reacted to midwinterrose in Do public assistance programs impact the CR-1 negatively?
Why would you rely on public (tax-payer) assistance if your savings are sufficient to support yourself and your wife, and fund your wife's immigration, even if your current income is zero? If you are accepting publicly-funded financial assistance, then you are a public charge; aka a burden on the public.
Let alone the morality aspect of receiving unnecessary funding--why would you ever possibly open the "public charge" can of worms when you are trying to go through the immigration process? How can you expect to argue that you have enough money to support your wife and at the same time accept money/assistance that is intended for those who are unable to support themselves?
Is a sufficient Form I-864 the only consideration for meeting any public charge issues at the time of the visa interview?
No, consular officers also look at other public charge factors affecting the financial situation of both the financial sponsor(s) and the applicant. Age, health, education, skills, financial resources and family status of the applicant and the sponsor are factors. Consular officers will verify to the extent possible that applicants have adequate financial support to prevent them becoming a public charge in the United States. Public charge means that someone is likely to be primarily dependent on the U.S. government for subsistence.
Only the officer who handles your case can say whether this will affect your ability to sponsor, but it seems to me to be a foolish choice all around, especially considering that your reasoning for it seems to be, "eh, why not?"

If I were you, I’d focus on getting some education or skills to be able to find jobs that pay living wages.

I only wish I hadn't sent in the biometrics fee with my application as of course it is "nonrefundable"!

SuznAaron reacted to futurecoloradogrl in I-751 December 2021 Filers
Informed Delivery says I'm getting a letter from USCIS (Potomac SC) today to tell me my previous biometrics are being reused and that I don't have to go in for an appointment. I already know this because the message is clearly visible under the address on the front of the letter. I would be more annoyed about their incompetence if I wasn't so grateful that I don't have to make future travel plans around a possible appointment!

SuznAaron got a reaction from Trish_ in Chicago POE and K1 visa - previously denied entry on ESTA
Yes likely it will. My husband was denied entry on an ESTA while we were waiting on his K1 visa. It was brought up at his screening when he came over with his K1. They asked, he gave info, all was good.

Yes this seems to be the case. You can’t get a time frame if assigned to MSC for the I 751. It’s back to the waiting game!

SuznAaron mentioned above that this appears to be the case. Although based on the thread lurking that I've done recently, people who applied in late 2019 are only now getting interviews, so we have quite a wait ahead of us.

Yes it stated that they will reuse my pass byometrics and fingerprints etc
Received NOA ( Dec. 4th) that the biometrics appt was waived and they will reuse past biometrics. We are also at the Potomac office.... This seemed fairly quick as well. Keep our fingers crossed it continues to be quick.

Thanks! I’m visiting my family for the holidays so I won’t be able to check my mail this month and can’t get the text either that’s why hopefully it shows in my account next week!
