Hello all,
My sister in India had a CR1 interview today at the U.S. consulate in Mumbai, India. They gave her 221g white slip and said that your file is incomplete. My sister asked the Consular Officer what documents are missing. But, the interview officer told her that they cannot comment on that and handed her the 221g white slip. The slip even doesn't say which document to submit. My sister is so stressed right now. She checked the ceac site and status says "Refused".
My question is:
1. Does Consulate email her regarding what documents she needs to submit?
2. Does the color of the 221g slip mean anything? Like white, yellow, or blue??
Please help and reply if you have any information
Thanks
Hey I want to make an update regarding my sisters case.
So my sister's husband who is a US citizen involved U.S. senator and the senator make him fill one form and she (senator) sent that formto the embassy and made an inquire about the case. The senator got a response from the embassy that they have asked for the passport submission from the applicant in one of the drop off location. But my sister never received any email from the embassy neither her husband or their lawyer received any email asking to submit the passport. So in this situation, should she wait for the email or else base on what the Senator got reply, should submit the passport ?? Will the people at drop off location ask about the proof whether why she is submitting if she isn't get any email from embassy? Also, normally people get email from embassy to submit their passport, right? Can they get a physical letter in the house mail box?? My sister is confused whether to wait or submit the passport?.

I got a white sheet of paper 221g at the interview. Then they sent what they called a 221g letter one year later with the above-mentioned instructions. The names can be a little confusing.
May I know how your case was complicated? And also, you tried everything like hiring a lawyer involving US senator??

I got an email that said, "Our office has sent a 221g letter on May 16, 2023, via the Visa Application Center (VAC), upon receipt of the same, please follow instructions mentioned there-in for timely processing of your case." I had to collect the 221g letter from Blue Dart in my city. This letter instructed me to submit a fresh PCC and medical as well as my passport. The passport was returned in less than a week with the visa stamped.
Didn't you got 221g at interview?? Or they gave second 221g after a year??

There is a lot of difference between my sister and her husband. First is age difference, education difference and last the culture difference as her husband is white American. Thanks for your reply.
I have one question. Did embassy send you an email to submit the passport and after submitting, how long it took to get it back

We had a complicated case so AP was kinda expected. We got a white 221g slip but no documents were asked for. I've heard that the date is updated every time someone looks at the case. I would take it as a good sign because in our case, the date didn't change until a year after the interview. Hopefully, there will be some action on her case soon. Also, the officer clearly didn't like me while she was super friendly to others who came before me. Or maybe I'm being hypersensitive. Does your sister have any issues with her case?

I interviewed in Mumbai and was put into AP for a year. Contacting your senator, sending follow-up emails to USCIS, or hiring a lawyer is fruitless. All she can do is wait for the decision no matter how long it takes. There's really nothing she can do at this point, and the sooner she is resigned to waiting, the easier it will be. All the best to your sister!
Sad to hear that. Did they ask any document from you in this one year waiting period?? And did your interview didn't go well?? What went wrong?? Just trying to see because in my sister's case, interview officer was rude. Also the the date has been updated at ceac website. Does that mean someone is looking at the case. My sister is so stressed right now.

They will likely advise her to get a new medical before they request the passport. If the delay is going be more than 5 months.
When to follow up or email the consulate regarding the case?? Do my sister need to contact the US senator and involve in this case?? Or hire an immigration attorney?? I know she can only wait but what If things go worse?? Have you seen any case like this and how long the wait can be?? If they said in interview that the file is incomplete, they should have ask documents.

if this is your case, have u completed and paid the 3 + years of tax returns?
Sorry my bad, it's for my sister. I am already in the U.S. and done with this process. I just shared the 221g slip that she send me this morning. Yes, they paid tax returns and they have a joint sponsor.

I am speculating. If they needed more documents from her, the CO would have annotated that on the 221g. Did they keep her passport?
They didn't keep her passport and that worries her more. They just said that her file is incomplete. And handed the 221g slip that I have attached below

The consulate could be completing a background check. I would just wait a day or 2. It could change to administrative processing. No need to panic.
So do you mean that they don't need any documents and just need to do a background check? Also, they didn't take my passport which worries my sister more. How long it takes to complete the background check and when I can follow up through call or email?

Hello all,
I have a question. Suppose, a couple got married in India. One is US born citizen and other is Indian citizen. And when they try to register their marriage in the Indian court, or the state court where marriage takes place, they make us to fill a form and also ask for NOC certificate from US spouse??
Note: US spouse is a divorced. He has divorce dissolution certificate. Will that satisfy NOC certificate??
NOC mean ( in my opinion): You are free to marry. No records found that you are still married.
I googled and found that NOC looks like this:
https://images.app.goo.gl/RtBNygAuvvZdLLZT8
My question is: If a US spouse is a divorced, still he needs this NOC certificate from the county clerk?? Or his divorce dissolution certificate is fine??

A primary sponsor (the spouse) must current on taxes for the last 3 years.....
So you suggest that he should pay at least last 3 years of taxes. Can he pay now??

Note if you have taxable income, as a US Citizen you are responsible to file US federal taxes. To answer your question, it sounds like you will need a joint sponsor, somebody in your life that would be willing to support your spouse.
So if his sister show her taxes and become a sponsor, than it would be fine, right??

Hey all,
I have a question. If someone, who is a US born citizen and wanted to marry someone out from US. Can that person sponsor spouse visa if he hasn't paid his taxes since last 17 years?? How he can call his wife over to the US??

Hey Everyone there,
At USCIS stage, we got RFE regarding our Bonafide marriage proofs. And we sent many proofs like:
1. Sworn In Statement by 6 people who attended our wedding.
2. Honeymoon pics and air travel tickets and boarding pass.
3. Hotel receipts where we stayed together. Those receipts have both our names on it.
4. Ring receipt that my husband gifted me.
5. Western Union receipt ...
Now, my question is: my interview is in this month. Do I need to worry about 221g regarding bonafide marriage proofs??
My second question is.. Whatever we submit USCIS, do embassy have access to all those documents and proofs??
My third question is.. I have completed my 2 years of marriage but my category didnt change from cr1 to Ir1. Should I email embassy about it??
Thanks for reading this. Hope to hear helpful replies.

As many travel from far away (by air/train/cars, one needs to specially know what they will not be able to take inside the consulate and where to store their personal belongings. Here are some FAQ and other tidbits that may be useful to you. FAQ
I just called and got Case Complete how long does it take to get the email as confirmation?
Well it has been taking 5 to 7 days to get case complete email from the date they Case Complete.
How long after Case Complete will I get an interview?
Okay this is the BIG mystery of NVC. How it usually goes is end of the month and first week of month they start scheduling for interviews for the that upcoming month. Since January they have been pretty consistent starting about the last 2 days of the month and finishing that following first week of next month
Do I have to call for my interview date?
NVC has improved greatly since March. The interview letter now comes day of schedule. So call if you want its up to you.
I know someone who got interview in the middle of the month. How is that possible?
Usually when you see someone pop up with an interview outside the bunch its usually the result of a cancellation or the embassy opening up a slot. Just because scheduling stops doesn't mean they filled up all slots. They may have more slots than appointments which is good. So someone gets case complete and immediately they get an interview. It happens.
Remember every embassy has its own slots and schedule. Some like Mexico, Ghana are very busy with a long waiting list. Some like Yemen, well it may be a few months to get in. Iceland you get interview immediately scheduled after case Complete.
I need to change our interview date what do I do?
Once you receive your interview date track your casefile. Call NVC ask when your casefile left than you can follow the DHL instructions to embassy. The contact your embassy (email is best) and ask to be rescheduled later, earlier just ask.
What do I need to bring to interview?
When you receive your P4 Letter (Interview letter) it will have your personalized checklist of things to bring or not. It has been suggested because things have been lost between NVC and embassy to bring everything (Originals) to the interview so if they don't have at embassy you aren't delayed. It's up to you. It doesn't happen much but it does happen. How to expedite at NVC?
Go to this link has good information how to go about it.

How to pay the Green Card Production fee of $220 on the Elis system.

2. Go here to pay fee: https://www.uscis.go...g-online-filing
3. Click to pay the USCIS immigrant fee icon.
4.Click "continue" at the bottom.
5.Enter the Alien Number and the NVC or DOS case. Use the same email you used on the ELIS account.
This is critical to enable your created ELIS account to receive your payment information.
6. You will get an email confirming your payment.
7. When you log again on the ELIS account, you will see your case number. (It is added automatically).
8. Login into your ELIS account to track or check the status of your Green Card.
Note: Green Card process starts when immigrant enters USA and is processed at POE.
******************Tips about your getting your SSN******************
If you don't have your SSN card within 21 days of your POE, go IN PERSON to your local SSA office and see if your application was forwarded by the Immigration officer. It only works about 50% of the time when you tick the box on the DS-260. As soon as you have your SSN you may work. Your passport visa and the immigration stamp is the equivalent of your green card. Thanks..
