All,
Just wanted to share our Mumbai interview experience.
Our interview was on June 28th at 7am.
We arrived at the consulate at around 6am.
There was already a lot of people waiting across the street.
At around 7am. The security told everyone to line up at the entrance.
No phones or electronics are allowed. So make sure you give it to someone before you enter.
We were let into the embassy in line and then entered the building.
First step was the security where everything was scanned.
Make sure you have copy of the interview letter.
Then we were led into a another room with about 100 chairs and 17 counters.
We were all given 2 tickets in the order that we stood in line.
Then consulate workers checked all our paper work.
DS-260 confirmation with Biometric stamp (make sure you take this as some people forgot this and were turned away)
All police clearance certificates
Passports
Medical report
Birth certificate
Marriage certificate
Have copies of each of these documents
Also have all your supporting documents
Marriage photos/albums
Petitioner financials
Evidence of relationship
We are called to the counter 2 times.
First we are called to the counter to double check all our paper work.
Then we wait for our second call to the counter.
This can take 1-2 hours depending on what your ticket number is
Then we are called to another counter for the second time for the actual interview with an interviewer.
This time they begin to ask questions
Who is the petitioner?
Does he have any siblings?
Where was he born?
Where was your husband born?
How did you meet?
Have you met since the wedding?
What do you plan on doing in the States?
Basically they are trying to 3 things:
1. Verify who you are
2. Validate the validity of the marriage and it is not fraudulent.
3. Make sure you are not a burden to the state if you immigrate.
We had all our travel plans and meetings and timelines memorized.
It is a good idea to prepare and memorize a timeline of when/where/why and for how long you met while you waited for the interview date.
The interview was about 10 minutes.
And everything went great and we were APPROVED!
They took our passports and said we will be notified by text or email when it is ready.
Some tips:
- Having the petitioner (husband/wife) accompany you to the interview makes a huge difference because it gives the interviewer more confidence in the relationship and reduces your spouse's stress levels which makes the interview a lot less stressful.
- Be patient and in a good mood and smile. If you have all your paperwork and relationship in order, you have nothing to worry about.
- Dress appropriately, but I would suggest keeping it simple with wedding bangles and tikkas since that is not something you wear on a daily basis.
- Be respectful and patient
We exited the consulate after about 3 hours and it was pouring down rain, the monsoon rains had just started.
So make sure you have someone waiting outside or ready to receive you.
The interview was on Friday and we got a text on Monday afternoon that the passport was ready for pickup.
We picked Mumbai as our pickup location, the same building where the biometric is done.
Passport tracker:
https://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-passporttrack.asp
Check case status:
https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=WwjqOlbeRYzCYubaSQI+RA==
Again, if you have all your paperwork in order the process is straightforward.
It never hurts to bring in more evidence and paperwork than is necessary, just in case they need something. Better safe than sorry.
We flew into the States a few day after collecting the passport.
Make sure you pay 1 more $220 fee to process the green card before you travel:
https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-immigrant-fee#How_to_Pay_the_Fee
At the port of entry:
Since it was our first time entering the US, we were taken to a separate area for processing.
Here the office asked us to sign a conditional form, that basically said we need to convert to IR-1 on our 2 year marriage anniversary.
Then our bags were put through the "agricultural" department. Where we were asked if we had any food items or seeds.
I would suggest not bringing in any food items into the States as it might cause issues at the airport.
We cleared everything, gathered our bags and exited the airport.
Thank you everyone on this thread that helped answer questions and post their experiences!

@dwheels76
Good luck!

Yes. We are CR1 with CC-01 Feb 2019. NVC has not been able to tell us why we haven't been scheduled while others with CC after ours have been. They say everything is fine with our case and we will get scheduled when we will. They also say 90 days is just directional and doesn't mean much. Our Senator outreach also hasn't resulted in anything concrete so we are just waiting at the moment. Our lawyer says that the process at NVC is just erratic and some cases bear the brunt of that chaos. Most of the cases should be ok though - think we just got unlucky.

Hello,
I got my visa approval from Riyadh embassy. Interview was pretty simple, they only asked few question related to our marriage and who is our sponsor and then took oath. Alhamdulillah!!! Best of luck to all those waiting
Here is brief history of my case:
CC: 16 May
IL: 23 May
Interview Date: 30 June
They told me that i will receive my passport in next 10 working days. However, my status on CEAC has not been updated since my date of interview and it still shows as Ready for interview. Anyone know how much time will it take for the visa to be issued.

Also based on the spreadsheet. It appears that the Mumbai embassy doesnt always give a 30 days notice. Some had like 21 days or less. Did anyone else notice that. Called the NVC today and they just said review the pre
interview checklist and wait for a interview letter lol! I wanted to be like fool I practically have that engraved in my brain 🧠

karishma reacted to tslei in After CR-1 Interview

Hi guys,
I arrived in the US yesterday. My POE was JFK and everything went was very smoothly. The officer just took the yellow envelope that the embassy gave me, my fingerprints and stamped the passport.
Good Luck to everyone waiting for the ILs! I hope the floodgates open soon.
