  1. Hello everyone :star:

It seems as if it has been forever since I have posted on the MENA boards (probably since last year) but I have been visiting and keeping up with everyone! My husband is here in the USA now el hamdulillah and has been for about a year and a half... LOTS of adjustments going on but inshAllah all will be well :)

Now here is my question: some of you, if not all, are going through this experience (of bringing someone from abroad to the US to adjust to so many different things, etc). My hubby is having some issues with acquiring a job with his college degree, even though he had it evaluated by World Education Services, and they said it was valid in the USA, and equivalent to a degree here in the IT field. Does he need to start over? I mean he is kind of tired of all the part time jobs, etc, and I try to tell him that these things take time... but how long does it take? Does anyone have experience with a family member who came to the USA with an IT degree? Does he need to obtain some sort of certification? I would hate for him to start from scratch... but maybe that is what he needs to do. :( I guess part of my worry is that it will be difficult once I go back to school (grad school inshAllah) and cannot work a full time job like I do now, and he is still working part time, retail, etc....

Any advice friends? :) Just pray that everything will be ok :) I wish his issues were missing home, etc (haha he seems to be just fine in that department) but i would love to see him happy in the career world :)

Again, I miss you all! And I hope all is well! :luv:

  2. Hello fellow VJers :)

I have not been on the board in a while but I just wanted to say I miss everyone dearly (F) you all are an amazing support team and I could not have gotten through this visa process without your help :) THANK YOU :) but all this MENA baby talk of names and births and such as I was reading other threads got me wondering... what about the VJ MEMBERS as babies? I am sure you all have some amazingly cute baby pics or even childhood pics that you would like to share (and if not that is fine too) :) hehe it can even give some insight as to what your little one may look like once you have a child :) so if you like the idea please post your pics :) I would love to see them!

other than that have a wonderful day (I am scanning my pic now to post) :D

  4. Bridget... tell your husband Good Luck at the Rome airport :( ...they gave my husband a hard time and lost his luggage (which luckily was found eventually) :) but I hope he has better luck than my husband did :)

my hubby...(for those of you wondering about one way or roundtrip)... got a one way ticket using Alitalia...I dunno if the airline company you use makes a difference...but he had no issues with the roundtrip thing at all...:)

and also... my husbands POE was JFK...it was pain free (he had to wait about one hour though and ended up missing his flight, but he got on the next flight to Richmond el hamdulillah) :D the officer took his envelope...opened it...smiled at my husband and said "Welcome to a lifetime of opportunities if you make the best of it...welcome to America and enjoy"...shook his hand and smiled :) haha...hopefully everyone else has an easy time :)

hopefully everyone else has a pain free journey :) GOOD LUCK! :D

how did he get a hard time in rome what happened???????

standard things...but basically out of all the passengers...they basically took my husband and two other Syrian men and gave them a hard time in security :( just...they basically did not respect them once they figured out they were Arab...it made me upset...and then they told him we must search your luggage (carry on and that on board)...then that is how they figured out they lost his luggage  finally he got through security after about 4 hours of waiting... :( he of course had missed his flight...but then he called me from italy using their phone and told me the nice guy from the main desk was figuring out a way to book him on the next flight to america...and he did el hamdulillah :D but inshAllah your hubby will not go through this...maybe it just depends on their mood...i wish i knew :)

please let me know how it goes :) take care sweety :)

  6. thanks everyone (F) i truly love my second family here at VJ :)

well thank GOD we got a call yesterday stating they found his luggage (el hamdulillah)...in ITALY???!?!?!?! somehow during the transit they did not place his baggage on the plane but instead left it in Rome...ugh...but thankfully it will be shipped today to us :)

Nagi, it was Alitalia... avoid at all costs...my husband said that was the first and last time he would ever go to italy...lol...poor thing :)

thanks again for all the answers!!! you all are awesome! :) take care (F)

  7. Well sorry I have not been on the board lately, but el hamdulillah my hubby arrived (After missing two flights due to the airlines issuing wrong tickets, losing his luggage, etc) last Wednesday :) EL HAMDULILLAH YARAB :) and i hope everyone else waiting will be reunited with their loved ones soon inshAllah :)

    but a couple of questions...

    1) When do new immigrants usually receive their SSN and green card in the mail after arrival?? If I checked the box stating that we would like the SSN card to be sent upon his arrival, do we need to fill out another application again?

    2) Driver's license...thankfully my dad and I will take turns teaching him in parking lots and such before taking him out to the road...but once he is a good enough driver, can he just go obtain his license after passing the drivers test on the computer...or does he have to go to a school?

    3) employment...as many of us have experienced before, my hubby wants to work ASAP to prevent just sitting at home doing nothing...so when exactly can he obtain a job...does the SSN have to arrive first? can he use his visa? i know many applications ask whether or not one is a US citizen...but is it ok if he just has visa and uses that number?

Any help would be appreciated :) and thank you soooooooooooo much!! i look forward to hearing tons of great news about visas in hand and arrivals soon inshAllah! :)(F)
