Just updating following my husband's N-400 interview (Montgomery, AL Field Office).
The appointment was at 9:30AM, and we went in at 9:15AM. I was not allowed to go inside. He was called back at 9:35AM and was finished at 9:55AM.
The civics questions that he was asked:
Who is the current president? What is the political party of the president now? Why does the flag have 50 stars? In what month do we vote for president? Name one war fought by the US in the 1900s. What does the constitution do? He was not asked anything at all about the pending I-751, and other than confirming that we are still married, there were no questions pertaining to our relationship. She did not look at or ask for any documents, except the green card. After going through all the usual questions in the N-400, he was approved and immediately scheduled for the oath at 11:30AM today. I wasn't allowed to go inside for that either, but was able to watch through large windows into the room. The oath was finished in 15 minutes, he got his naturalization certificate, and left the office a U.S. Citizen!!!
Case status for I-751 now says "Interview Was Completed And My Case Must Be Reviewed" (which I am just ignoring, lol) and N-400 case status says "Certificate Of Naturalization Was Issued"
Very very happy to be done with this huge milestone and finished with USCIS!

Well it's done the wife had her oath ceremony this afternoon, really nothing to report it was not to overly crowded as my wife's ceremony was the third and final one of the day so there were about 495 people taking the oath. Worst part was the traffic going home. So its all over but the shouting, gotta get that passport and update her SS records and its truly done!
For all of you still waiting for USCIS to get off their duffs, you know the drill by now it's coming and it's only a matter of time and it'll be done for you too. Hang in there there's light at the end of the tunnel for sure!

Exactly. I just draw an analogy with my profession. I am a teacher at a Middle School. This is exactly like me returning exams/papers to just two out of my 43 students. I am sure I would get called out by my administrators, and rightfully so, for not treating my students equally.
And yes, oh boy, my 751 package was 6 lb thick. I included very revealing evidence of a bona fide relationship (joint leases for 2 years, joint mortgage, joint house title, joint bank statements... everything covering 2 years +9 months of our marriage) and yet here we are. I just found out someone at LIN got approved in 23 DAYS and I couldn't help but feel dissappointed at how unfair this process is.

Jo&Ro reacted to Boundless_damsel in N-400 January 2023 Filers
As you know from my posts, I filed almost a year before you (for both I751 and N400 timelines), and I am 100% with you about the lack of transparency part. This is exactly what is bugging me the most--it does not feel right when there is a major variance in how cases are handled. I assume your file was thick enough to approve your application even without opening your file. Same went for me. And all of that begs the question, why, given same or worse inputs (i.e. quality of applications and filing at the same time) we get such different outcomes--some applications are processed within several months, while others take year(s). Big sigh.
Also, I wish the only advantage of citizenship would be voting--alas, there are many more limitations (depending on one's needs, of course).

It sucks that you're also in this situation, but it feels good that I am not alone. Honestly, I don't care about getting citizenship fast (after all, we have almost same rights as a USC except for voting), but what really bugs me is the lack of transparency with which they handle cases. People at Columbus FO that applied even after me are already getting scheduled for an interview...

Well, the wife had her interview today 10:30am appointment time. I want to advise everyone that this is second hand information from a wired and excited woman so I had to glean portions of the following events: The interview was conducted at our local FO in Irving, Texas or for those not familiar with Irving, you can say Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. For that reason we left the house at 6:30am, why you ask so early the traffic in this area is horrendous and we did not want to risk traffic and a back log due to a wreck or construction so we gave ourselves ample time (it's about an hours drive anyway).
We arrived about 7:50am so we had a long wait until her appointment time, but we were ready we had pillows, blankets snacks, etc. You know the wife had to bring her make up kits and comb, brush, lipstick, etc since she would be messing her hair up while waiting (women) 😁. The place had interviews starting at 7am so they were in full swing once we got there. They would not let her enter the building until 15 minutes prior to her scheduled time. I knew from talking to several other people as they came out that I would not be allowed to go inside the building.
These are the questions they asked her remember you need 6 correct out of 10. The wife got the first 6 correct so they only asked 6 questions:
1. Who is your US Senator
2. Name your US Representative
3. Who veto's bills
4. What state borders Mexico
5. What is Benjamin Franklin famous/known for
6. What is a constitution
She had a short sentence to read: Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
Sentence to write: What is one promise that you make when you become a United States citizen?
She said the IO was cordial and told her she had passed the civics and reading and writing portions. The wife said she saw our I-751 package on his desk all 6lbs of it. He asked where her spouse was and she said in the car, it was at that time he told her the interview was a combination, but there was no need for me to attend. She said he was concerned to see 2022 taxes and he wanted proof that we were living together. He also asked for items from the filing of the I-751 until the interview, which by the way served as items for the N400 too. Mind you all this happened in about 15 minutes she said the IO seemed rushed but he did not miss a beat. The IO gave her a Form N-652 which stated she had passed the civics, written and writing test. It also stated that he would be recommending approval of the I-751 and the N-400.
One important detail I think everyone should know she said the I-751 sitting there in all its glory was basically an after thought and the IO did not waste to much time on it. He had already gone through it as it was in disarray sitting on his desk. All in all the wife said she was relaxed and the everything happened like she had studied and we had rehearsed (we did plan on her going inside the interview alone without me.) She was not bothered by that fact since we covered it as a possible scenario before hand.
As of a few minutes ago we got status saying "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled." Just a side note in all the excitement the wife forgot to take a picture besides the USCIS name plate, so I have to drive out AGAIN this Saturday so she can get dressed up again just to take a picture of the sign on the building geeezzzz!!!!! End of story!

Grats to you. But it sure would help others if you filled in your timeline. As we all help each other here in VJ.

Jo&Ro reacted to Redro in Bank refuses to add my wife to my account
For proof of address to get my driver's I used: My SSN card (had address on it), mail addressed to USC husband AND marriage certificate. It was issued no problems. I would also go to a different bank if they are giving you issues. Not wanting to help you open the account will probably be the first of the many issues you encounter with the bank when trying to do anything...

*** Removed related thread. Please post your related questions in this thread to keep the discussion in one place. ***
As mentioned above, you or your wife may file I-130 petitions for her kids. Better for you, the US citizen, to file for them as your stepchildren. You will need to file 2 petitions, 1 for each child. The cases will be separate and processed independently of each other. After the I-130 petitions are approved and the cases transferred to NVC, you may request NVC to link the cases so the children may be interviewed together. Check out the VJ guide below --

Jo&Ro reacted to JeanneAdil in Husband is an Inmate..What do we do?
criminal cases are often followed by civil suits seeking huge amounts of money from the felon for damages caused (in this case death )
i would do all to protect my money and in no way put a house in his name
your attorney really needs to be on the ball / not only as to immigration issues but how to protect your money and assets
usually a spouse will seek a lawyer (thinking of accidents and manslaughter cases) to get all property out of the name of an accused person before going to trial
you may know the OJ Simpson case
Even though he was acquitted , her family sued and won a huge settlement
The civil jury found Simpson liable for the two deaths, ordering him to pay $33.5 million to the families.Jun 26, 2022

Thank you for your reply what your reply is incorrect. That's not what I read here https://www.boundless.com/immigration-resources/income-requirements-for-green-card/ (Can I include income from the relative seeking the green card?)
I can tell you that more than few attorneys have also advised that we can use my assets and they have also provided references to the law. I can also provide more links to support that. Among all the difficulties, this was never the problem.

Jo&Ro reacted to Boiler in Husband is an Inmate..What do we do?
If you want him to sponsor you then he needs to meet the financial requirements just like anybody else, read the I 864. Not that long of a document.

Jo&Ro reacted to veronicabiondi in Husband is an Inmate..What do we do?
look, I'm not bragging here but I'm making nearly 50k USD per month and that's straight from my work. Why do I need a joint sponsor?!!! I understand that this requirement is to ensure that the "immigrant" won't burden the state. I understand that but I was told that we can use my assets as long as its continuously traceable.

IR2 is always safer though, firstly IR does get priority over F- cases, second although maybe unlikely to be an issue with such young kids, you never age out of IR, if they retrogress F2A the possibility of aging out exists.

This info is too late in your stepchildren's case, but for others reading this thread -- beneficiary's passport is NOT required at the petition stage. Passport will only be required at the NVC stage after the petition has been approved. Also, the NVC stage can be delayed for up to a year, or even indefinitely with yearly written communication with NVC.

You can also just quote me by the way.
First of all, OP did not elaborate on where he is getting that information from. He did not quote in his first post anything from what he read and come across. I cannot read minds and know what he is talking about exactly.
Second of all, the beauty of this website is that I can answer however I like, given I don’t break TOS. If that doesn’t satisfy your standards, that is just too bad.
Third of all, this is DIY forum where you seek out information from all sources yourself and seek to find out the true practical information and see and learn from other peoples experiences. And no, I will not hold anyone’s hand and break down information in detail because frankly we get a question like that every week, even several times a week. Proper research is, given that OP is posting on VJ, is to read helpful guides and flowcharts that are available at anyone’s fingertips right here on VJ. It is to read through pages of threads on this K1 section. It is also using this little helpful tool on top of the screen that is a search bar that will lead to thousands of threads on this exact question and many more.
I’m a volunteer here and I do not get paid to do this. I don’t need to be lectured on how my answers “can be more helpful”. I answer how I see fit, respecting the TOS of VJ of course.
Now I’m really out of this thread.

Jo&Ro reacted to Marieke H in How do I file a complaint about NVC
I'm all for giving people a break. However, when multiple seasoned VJ members take the time to explain how someone is misunderstanding the process, only to be told that they are wrong, it gets very frustrating.

Jo&Ro reacted to Marieke H in How do I file a complaint about NVC
You have 2 options:
You can keep insisting that you are right and everyone here is wrong, keep fighting NVC until they will let you upload documents for your K-1 application (spoiler: this will never happen).
Or you can accept that you have the two different processes mixed up, accept that there are no documents being uploaded to NVC for a K-1, learn about the K-1 process so you understand what is happening, and move on with your K-1 process.

Jo&Ro reacted to brii in How do I file a complaint about NVC
You clearly don't want help. People keep telling you you're wrong, but until now you've only been combative. Not even going to bother with replying or helping. I'm out.

Jo&Ro reacted to African Zealot in How do I file a complaint about NVC
To the OP when everyone is telling you that you’re mistaken (particularly on a forum of people with experience), no matter how much you believe you’re right step back and look at everything afresh and consider what they’re saying. You might find out you were actually in the wrong.
Good luck.

Jo&Ro reacted to NikoTaino in How do I file a complaint about NVC
Where does it say you need to upload documents to the NVC? It clearly says The NVC forwards the approved Form I-129F to the U.S. Embassy or consulate where your fiancé(e) will apply for a K-1 nonimmigrant visa. This is generally the U.S. Embassy or consulate where your fiancé(e) lives.
Here you can see the documents you have to BRING TO THE VISA INTERVIEW, not to upload them to the CEAC: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html
Other members have tried to help you and give you the information you need, but for some reason, that hasn't worked for you. If you see 3+ members telling you you're wrong, then take a moment and check yourself.
Cheers,
