So, we have an interesting timeline right now. We submitted AOS/EAD/AP all in early September. We just got approval notice for EAD/AP, but we still have not had any biometrics or any other appointments scheduled. Has anyone ever heard of that before? Would it be possible to have no biometrics for the entire process?

This happened to me.... or so I thought! Turns out, I got my case number wrong when checking the status on USCIS website. LOL!

my fiance and i had booked a wedding venue in tagatay overlooking the taal for late february.

is it safe to say we should probably schedule elsewhere?

    😓

i heard/read its still erupting and may be for some weeks/months. prolonged eruption

It's best to contact the company you booked the wedding from. Hopefully, it's not that serious but they are probably watching the news closely as it will affect their business.

  3. Check on your relatives in the Philippines. Taal volcano is on level 4 of 5 at the moment. I know there's limited resources at the moment and it's not easy to get anywhere but might help to coordinate other relatives from worst affected to least.

    Hope everyone stays safe.

Wow! Thank you everyone for the replies! The reason why I'm asking if I can have the affidavit notarized at the consulate is for convenience since I plan to personally file the ROM. Isang bagsakan kung baga. 🙂

I did not have any of my documents notarized before I went to the consular outreach. They made us (me and my hubby) sign the documents in front of the personnel.

I was just at the event for ROM but the personnel suggested I do my passport renewal too...  Para isang bagsakan na lang :)

  5. I married in Pensacola, Florida in July 2019. Marriage license has the section at the bottom for the number of marriage 'for use by Vital Statistics'. Marriage certificate does not have this information. I have attached an image below for reference.

I did my ROM and passport renewal on the same day to reflect my new last name in an outreach program and they asked for the marriage license and marriage certificate. I got my old and new passport back just a little over 4 weeks after application.

    Hope this helps!

  6. Hello,

I need some advice on employment decision. This is hard for me to decide on since I recently immigrated and US is a completely new territory and I'm not sure how employment process works in the US.

I was a Quality Assurance/Software Tester and planned on pursuing that career here. Since I assumed I won't be working for awhile, I planned on getting some certifications done but my EAD got approved sooner than expected.

Now, my brother will be getting married in Mag 2020 and I might need to take a week off to travel to the Philippines because of this, I am considering doing a work-from-home jobs temporarily so I can save up some for the May trip and easily resign from the temp job then when I return to the US, I will start to focus on trying to get a QA job.

    Here are my concerns:

    1) Will future employer have a negative impression on the most recent short job history?

    2) How long is the whole employment process from being interviewed to actually working?

    3) Should I just apply for QA jobs right away or should I work on my certifications first?

    4) If I ended up getting a QA job, will they let me take a week off in May even though I am new to the company?

Thanks for all your inputs in advance :)

  7. Hello,

This is just an FYI, in case someone else might need this information.

On November 23rd 2019, I had my Report of Marriage and passport renewal done in an Embassy Consular Outreach event in Pensacola, Florida.

Although I still have years left in my old passport, the consular personnel suggested renewing my passport to reflect my new married name. They say it will take 4-6 weeks before I can get it back via mail--this is plenty of time before my AOS interview and the process and requirement was pretty easy so I went for it.

Fast forward to today, I went online to check for the status of my passport using this link: https://philippineembassy-usa.org/passportfinder/ and it finally showed "YOUR PASSPORT IS READY FOR RELEASE".

    Hope this helps!

but there are moments you want to see and hear familiar sights and sounds.

I feel you. I've been in Pensacola, Florida for 5 months now and miss speaking Tagalog. Lol. Sometimes, when I'm out in public, if I hear someone that sounds like Filipino, my ears perk up like a dog with a treat. Other times, I'll see people that may look like Filipina and all I can do is smile because I'm extremely shy inside. Lol.

Nowadays, I call a highschool friend over the phone for some Tagalog satisfaction. I guess, it's time for me to talk Tagalog more to my husband and stepson hoping eventually they'd be conversational. Hehe...

I just have a question as to why you'd carry around the NOA1 and not the NOA2 (or copies)? I am not at that part in my immigration journey yet and I am curious.

Because NOA1 of the AOS journey means that you already filed to be a permanent legal resident and NOA1 proves that it was received by USCIS.

If you came in on a K1 visa and is already past your 90 days, the NOA1 kind of gives you an 'authorized stay'.

  10. I always carry my driver's license and a photocopy of my passport, marriage certificate and NOA1.

I've only been asked to show my passport, marriage certificate and NOA1 when dealing with government agencies.

I show my license to services, commodities and financial institutions when asked.

Would you get in trouble if you don't have them? It's hard to say but I would err to the side of caution and just take at least copies of them with me.

    Hope this helps.

  11. I believe your married name should have been used on the AOS, AP and EAD forms and then on 'other names used' you can put in your maiden name.

For SSN name change, I was able to change mine even before submitting AOS. The only requirement was my SSA physical card and the marriage certificate.

Let's see what others have to say since you've already submitted your papers.

  12. I entered on K1 visa on July 18, 2019 and married on Aug 9 this year as well. I live in Pensacola, Florida. I sent ny AOS packet on Sept 6th and I am now "ready to be scheduled for interview" since Nov 14th. Just putting my info out there since different people in different places during different times can be a factor.

     1. I started using my husband's last name as soon as we got the marriage certificate which is right after our courthouse wedding.

    - I think reporting your marriage to PH embassy will change it per Philippine's customs. I did mine through a consular outreach just 3 weeks ago. Consular rep suggested doing my passport renewal with my new name just so all my records are with the same name. It's your choice not to do it and the marriage certificate would have been enough but I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity since consular outreach don't happen very often in my location.

    - I had my SS card name change as soon as I got my marriage certificate. Note that I applied for my SSN a week after my arrival and I got it on the day of my marriage. So this was a quick turn around for me.

    2. Consular outreach rep says 4-6 weeks. I was at the outreach on Nov 23rd and haven't received mine so I can't vouch for it's timeliness. They say that I can 'borrow' the old one if I needed it for travel or AOS interview.

    3. I don't think there's a specific amount needed but in my opinion, it would be better to see movements in the account. We kind of opened a joint account just for the evidence so I need to make sure it's going to be a good one.

    4. If paperwork from them will help build evidence of a bonafide marriage, I would say yes especially assuming that bills are under their names.

    5. I do have a driver's license which is real ID compliant and I would say it's helpful for me when driving around, showing ID, etc.

    6. SS card is not requirement for AOS. A valid passport will be needed but it doesn't have to be in her new name.

    Hope this helps.

What does renewing your passport or not have to with AOS?  No reason to be hesitant

Well, there are few things about it that made me hesitate:

    1) Not knowing how long it will take for them to get it done (this was addressed)

    2) How well they are going to do it (possible mistakes in the printing, etc.)

    3) Having to shell out an extra $70 on top of the $35 that I was prepared to pay. They only took cash at the outreach so my husband had to drive out to the nearest ATM again.

    4) I got a good 9 years left in my passport's validity and kind of wants to make sure I make the most of the $30 passport renewal fee of my old passport. LOL.

    5) I am not bothered at all by having to show my marriage certificate all the time to explain the name difference as I always carry a copy with me anyway.

Not having a passport as a form of ID was not a concern for me since I already have a driver's license.

Anyways, husband says to just get it done so I did it because I am such an obedient wife. Haha!

  14. When I did my ROM with the consulate outreach in my area, they suggested that I do the passport renewal too to reflect my new last name. I hesitated because I am in the middle of AOS too (filed September this year) but they assured me that I will have the old and new passport back in 4 to 6 weeks. They also say that I can 'borrow' the old passport if I plan on travelling.
