We had our interview in Denver this morning and it went better than I could have ever imagined.

The officer seemed very official at first but warmed up to us quickly. He asked us a few questions about how we met, when we started dating, when I moved here etc. Asked to see evidence of our new address (as we only moved here 2 months ago). But no other things from our mountain of paperwork, not even joint benefit statement or photos of anything.

He then asked us a few questions about our AOS application and said he would approves us tonight and the card will be with us in 2 - 4 weeks.

However, I have had flights booked for a long planned family holiday in Spain on Oct 3rd (10 days time eeeeeek) so I asked him if he would stamp my passport so I could go. It was a LONG shot but he approved me then and there and I GOT MY STAMP whaaaaaaoooooo!!

Still can't quite believe I can leave the US (I never got my AP or EAD so I've been here for a long time haha)!!!! But absolutely over the moon.

My advice to anyone who still has their interview to come - be prepared and bring everything because you never know what they are going to ask but don't stress, these officers are just normal people and it's usually a pretty simple interview.

    Good Luck! x

    CONGRATS!!

Thank you! Any idea if it matters if all of the photos do not match, like if we go back to get them retaken and we use the two we have now + new?

Also, we will be flying into LAX. We did the same thing last year when my husband (then boyfriend) was here for a few months, but this time December is long past when his B2 visa expires (which is in october). I will just make sure to bring our marriage certificate and NOA once received.

    No, I do not think it matters! Its good to have some spanning your relationship.;

Yeah, its recommended we bring the documentation with us, but honestly a slim chance of being asked for it. I used to live in LA and passed through twice through our aos app pending, and I was never asked to show anything even once.

Thought of something else - we are concurrently filing the I-765 but not the I-131 as we do not have plans to travel out of the country (and he has no reason to travel back to Canada at this point), however we are flying to California in December to spend Christmas with my paternal side of the family. Is there anything we need to file for him to be able to travel throughout the US or will we be okay?

I believe you do need a separate set of birth certs (or photocopies) for each package. That was what I did, and I did not get an RFE. Maybe it was not necessary, but  I think it might be because they are their own package (although you file all together).

I can't remember the exact amount for passport photos, but I believe it was 6 overall for beneficiary, 2 for the petitioner (usc).

I think your proof of marriage for now will suffice, it is similar to what I sent. And you could also improve on it for the interview. I would try to pressure your job to add him though, I believe technically he can be allowed but sometimes the person you add is not aware. It sometimes takes a bit of calling/asking around for a lot of us on here to finally add them to our insurance.  You could try opening an account/savings together at one of the easier banks as well like wells fargo. I am added to wells fargo and chase , but for chase it required me to go to a couple branches in order to sort if out.

For domestic travel, you should be fine. Be mindful that at some southern areas (and some parts of california), there are internal checkpoints/border patrol will hang around and can sometimes ask for proof of status. I traveled with my husband to Austin while we were processing and I brought all my NOA's and marriage cert. I was never asked for them, but in case you need to prove identity, does not hurt to have.

    Hello everyone & happy Saturday!

I'm preparing for my AOS interview and we've gathered quite a lot of evidence (joint checking account, joint saving account, car insurance, medical insurance, dental insurance, renters insurance, shared gas bill, life insurance beneficiary, congratulatory wedding cards, venue reservation, contract with photographer, contract with DJ, contract for hotel block, travel receipts, learners permit with address on it, etc.).

The one thing we don't have is a LEASE with my name on it. My wife has lived with the same roommate for 4.5 years and both their names are on the lease. We're planning to move into our own this winter. The roommate has written a signed statement we plan to bring saying how long they've lived together, that I would stay with them for visits, and that now that we're married I've been living with them (2 of us in one bedroom, her in the other). Is this sufficient, or is it going to be a problem that my name isn't on the lease?

Sounds like it will be fine. My interview is Tuesday and we do not have a lease at the moment either, I think our health insurance, life insurance, cell phone, car insurance and trips taken together etc are strong enough. Yours seems the same (even better). I would not worry

  5. I'm sorry that I've been asking so many questions, I obviously have some anxiety issues about this interview.

We're aosing from b2 visa. We met two times in person. The first time, we had no met yet so when asked what my reason for visiting, I said vacation (6 days in LA) and he asked who are you staying with and I said friends. He asked if I had any gifts and I said just chocolates. That's it.

Second time, I said vacation and asked who I am staying with I did say boyfriend because he was officially my boyfriend where then he asked how long, where I was truthful and how much money I brought. Was let in after that.

In the k1 visa (we submitted this before we decided to aos and then subsequently withdrew it when we got married) we included a "circumstances of meeting" where I said we admitted we had romantic feelings for each other and were "together ever since" from even before we met. I did not tell the POE boyfriend because well, we had no met yet and I am of the belief its weird to at least me, to refer to someone as your girlfriend or boyfriend that you had not met. Literally as soon as I met my boyfriend for the first time, in the airport still, he asked me to be his girlfriend then and there. Before that, we agreed we would not refer to each other as that yet. Could this be an issue? I apologize again for so many issues. My interview is on the 24th and I can barely sleep I am so nervous always.

  6. I was looking over the docs I submitted with my AOS application and I realize that when we sent them in, we made an error on the section of Part 5 which states "Have you EVER previously filed a petition for this beneficiary or any other alien?". We selected no at the time because we were not aware (stupidly) that the k1 i129f counted as petition. I have now corrected the document, written an amendment which states that we made the error and what we would like to correct it to, including the WAC number. We did not get far in the k1 process and just received the noa1, after which we sent a withdrawal and stated we were already married so we would like to withdraw it. I included this in my amendment and plan to print out the original withdrawal letter as well.

Will this suffice? We just made a pure error and I am really worried that it might have more consequences. I plan on handing this to the IO before our oath

Hello everyone, hope somebody can reply,

I just got my interview for the month of October of Adjustment of Status, my doubt here is:

I went to get my medical on May 2018, the doctor signed it June 7th, and my priority date is Sept 7th, since the doctor signed it and uscis received my case was a period of 90 days, and that I know you had to sent it before 60 days period for your exam to be valid for 2 years, it’s been over a year since uscis accepted my case, so I guess my medical  has expire, In case i show up to the interview and it’s actually expired,

How days do I get to do my i693 and sent to my uscis office? 87 as the request for evidence?

It has to be signed and given to USCIS within 60 days. You then need to bring it to the interview since its already scheduled (do not send it in)

Hi, Just got aos interview done today with my wife(my wife: US sponsor me: applicant) and share the expericence. Welcome some ideas or comments to the interview and the next step predict. My wife did the interview first for 15 mints, then she stay in the office and I was asked to came in for interview for 25 mints, but my wife was asked to keep silient for the whole time.

I gave my I-767 to the receptionist and she scanned barcode then asked us to wait for to be called. There are 4 interview sections at 4 corners of the waiting hall. Half hour later, an middle aged male officer called my name. He asked my wife to go with him and hand her cellphone over to me before that. We were a little surprised, as we expected my wife and I would to be interviewed together. My wife went with him and 15 mints later, he came to get me. I followed him to his office-my wife sitting at the right corner, being silent there. The man asked me to stand by the table and lift my right hand, swearing what I said in the interview are true. Then he asked why I got both Canadian and Chinese passport? I explained that I got Canadian citizenship during my waiting time for k1. Then he asked questions set forth below:

1.how did you know each other?

2.when and where was the first time you met?

3.where your wife lives? How many bedroom there is? How many windows are there in the bedroom? Is there closet?

4.what kind of bed you have? Which side you sleep? How many pillows you have? What’s the color of you pillow and the cover of the bed?

5.do you make the bed after you get up?

6.who cooks? What food do you usually cook? Are you good at cooking, what’s your favorite food?

7.have you even married and have your current wife married before? When did you marry your ex wife? Where is your ex wife?

(the above questions were also asked my wife when she was herself being interviewed by the officer, and it proved our answer are 100% the same)

8.how many fiancé you have? (Like joke)

    9.what’s your job?

10.Do you have property back in Canada? How many bedroom it has? Why you still keep the house in Canada?

11.Have you ever been declined entering US?

The following questions are just standard Yes or No questions in 1-485.

Then he asked me to leave right and left index finger print. At the very begining, the officer seems serious. But later the atmosphere became relaxed. When he learned I like noodle and pancake, he said his son also like them but he does not know how to cook, he wish he got chance to my home and try some food I cooked.

At last he told me if he need further documents, I will receive a mail later, and if the card approved, I will get it in 1-2 weeks.

Is it a STOKES INTERVEIW? are they suspect the truth of my marriage? I don't know why they asked some many questions. Fingers crossed for good news.

I don't believe it is a stokes interview, but someone more knowledgeable will probably speak up.  Hoping for good news for you! does not seem like it was that bad, especially since you said he lightened up

  9. Our interview is in 2 weeks and I am starting to make sure we have everything in order to have the smoothest interview possible. My husband and I got married in other state that we were living at prior to moving to our address now that we will have our interview in. He has not changed his address as we are planning to move back there soon, losing his job was the reason for initially moving. Our interview and our aos file was filed in the state we are currently in, however he holds the license from the previous state we lived in. He does have a passport however, that lists the state that we live in currently.

Will this be an issue? I have read several posts from people where the licenses were different from each other that worried me a little bit. We have mail arriving together at our current address, his passport lists the state we currently live in, and we have insurance from the state we currently live as well. I ( the immigrant) do not have any ID with any of these addresses yet because no ssn.

Should we rush to change his address to the current location on his license  before the interview?

Hi. I would like to ask, what requirements did you provide for I-485? I got here as a tourist and met the love of my life. We don’t have joint bank accounts since a SSN is needed for that. All we have are pictures,  notarized letters from friends and families stating that we have a bonafide relationship, and a few cards that we got from our wedding. Does anybody have the same case as mine? Replies would be highly appreciated.

I arrived the same way and its possible to get more proof and I think you will need more proof for an easier interview. I did not have snn either and still do not have one (my interview is in 2 weeks), and we could get my name onto his bank acc and credit card at wells fargo and at chase. You can also get it on private health insurance. Sometimes it takes a bit of pushing without the snn depending on who you get, but it is completely possible.

  11. We front loaded ours with lots of pictures, joint health insurance, bank accounts and authorized credit card user, cell phone bills flight itinerary and hotels together, gym membership and dog adopted together, etc and our interview is in 3 weeks, with no rfes. I did it for the reason a couple mentioned, so our interview is mostly a formality because I knew I would be nervous and I already am my interview is on the 24th.

Hello guys. I'm so nervous. Tomorrow is my interview at 1:45 pm... I have everything super organized.... Hope everything goes well. I will let you know how was it. Watch so many videos to have an idea how will be and some made me so nervous

Goodluck!! My interview is in 3 weeks and I am so nervous so I could imagine how you feel with it being tomorrow. It'll be such a relief having it all done though, I am sure it will go well

Hi all. I just received my letter a few days ago that our AOS interview has been scheduled for the 26th of September. It has sort of come at a bad time. I had gotten laid off for June, July & part of August. I got hired with an off shore company on the 26th, and I will be back with a paycheck on Sept. 20th. I will only have one pay stub from my new employer in the event that they ask me for an update on my work situation (I am only paid once a month with this job anyway). Will the fact that I just switched jobs be an issue? I do have a friend willing to co-sponsor but I am curious if it even necessary since I am now employed again.

Secondly I have a question about the Vaccination requirements. I've read that the DS-3025 has to list 2 shots for MMR or include a "B" listed; indicating a waiver. When my wife went to St. Luke's, they told her that based on her vaccination history she only needed 1 MMR shot. Of course because of that fact there is no waiver indicated. Why is this then considered an issue sometimes? I have read that sometimes it is and sometimes is isn't.

When I sent in the AOS packet back in May, I included the DS-3025 and I have not received a RFE. Would they have issued an RFE at that point if it was unacceptable or is an RFE only issued after the interview phase?

    Any information/advice would be appreciated.

My interview is on the exact same date as yours and instead of the MMR vaccination, I only got one dose of the chicken pox vaccine. They put "insufficient time interval". As others say, its a non issue as only one dose is required. I asked the civil surgeon and she said it happens all the time and it is no big deal and they would not give the packet for the medical examination if it was not complete.

As for the affidavit, I believe unless asked, you can just keep the affidavit of support from before. With you though, I would fill out a new one with the new appropriate earnings and paystub/letter from employer in case asked. They do not always ask though.

    Goodluck! I am nervous myself

Yes, at the interview. At worst they will want documentation (so if you have the police report, bring it with you). Most likely they won't care and brush it off.

Not op but have a question, 5 years ago I got off a public bus and the security guard in Canada and e saw saw I did not have my ticket with me and issued a warning. I do not have documentation. Is this something that would matter? I do not think I was cited at all

Worrying about the interview is normal. But from what you’ve described, there’s absolutely nothing here.

Think of it this way: would something show up on your police certificate? Since you’re doing AOS, I don’t know whether you actually need one like IR1 does, but even if you don’t, would you expect any criminal history to be listed?

Thank you! Yeah, that's true. I try to imagine something like that being on someone's record and I realize it would not show up. It does not even have something to show up as. You helped ease my worries

    44 minutes ago, geowrian said:

It's a little more complex, actually. And for completeness, AOS does not require PCCs like an immigrant visa.

The question on the I-485 is:

Somebody only arrested or detained might not have anything ever show up on a PCC. So just because a PCC would come back clean doesn't necessarily mean the answer is "no".

As for the OP's case, I don't think what happened sounds like an issue nor meets the criteria to be listed here.

Thank you, appreciate your help as you advise a lot of people on here a lot.
