purem4g1c reacted to Lana&Ivy in K-1 filers - JAN/FEB 2019 NOA2--> Montreal Consulate
Had my interview this morning. Very smooth process and everyone was lovely and seemingly happy. I wrote a big long review.
Approved!

Thanks! It was the word immigrant that kept appearing in my email that threw me off
"This office has completed the review of the below-referenced immigrant visa case. You are now ready for an interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal, where all interviews for immigration to the US from Canada are processed. This letter provides information on the next steps you must take to continue with your immigrant visa case."

For myself, I went on google maps and typed "Fingerprint services" contacted local one near by and asked if they could do a privacy act fingerprint criminal check. You could perhaps try this too.

Trading, such as buying and selling stocks for yourself using your own money is not employment. Doing it for other people and making money from it is employment.

Hmm, yeah but they may not like you working on US soil at all as far as I know.

More than likely, the REAL reason was due to weak ties to his country......and intent to stay inside the US.

Get to know him extensively in the real world before you go the marriage route. People are different online than in the real world. I certainly wouldn't recommend marrying on the first visit. In fact, I wouldn't even recommend being a fiancee on the first visit either. Just my 2 cents.

I have not had my interview yet, but when I called Medisys Montreal they said it takes them about 4 business days at the earliest to get the medical exam results sheet needed for interview. It could possibly take longer though. Perhaps call them and ask them for tips? They are actually quite nice on the phone and very helpful when it comes to it.

Also only the beneficiary has to do the finger printing. The non-american citizen! By the wording of it it sounds like you're the petitioner since you living in Florida at the moment? 😮

I had to fill out a W8 Ben form when I opened my TD Bank USA card. It was something to do with tax treaty so that you don't get double taxed for earning income in USA + your home country.

Paid by card on the DOS site. Before booking your interview it should prompt you to pay. Best to use a credit card with low, or no foreign exchange rate.

You can do the medical anytime between booking the interview and that actual date. The only disadvantage to going early is that your visa validity is based of the medical date not interview date (most often.) Otherwise do what's convenient and cost effective for you.

I honestly stayed in Montreal for 11 days (had to be more due to the fact my interview was around thanksgiving. lol) at an airbnb apartment that was a ten minute walk from the embassy and medical. My Mum and I made a vacation of it since I was moving away and it was gonna be hard leaving. I am from Manitoba so for me it just made so much more sense money wise. We had so much fun sightseeing in Montreal. We have decided that sometime in the future we will meet there for another one along with my husband.

OMG I though it was just here that was like that. Drives me crazy. What else drives me crazy is sooo many people here drive with no lights at night, when its foggy they do not put their lights on or when its blizzarding. I am like REALLY omg people. I swear that that where I live is the worse for driving. Honestly it puts Montreal drivers to shame and we were always told Montreal had the worst drivers in Canada.

Work out the money. Is it cheaper/faster to get the medical done in Surrey than spend a week in Montreal? Include flights, gas, spending money, and food. For me it was cheaper to spend a week in Montreal, marginally. (I used to live in Red Deer)
Surrey gets you the medical back faster and can send it to you for a fee as well.

purem4g1c reacted to Travis1111 in Using a tourist visa while in possession of a K-1 visa
Update: I thought I would let everyone know that I was able to enter the U.S. on a tourist visa while in possession of a K-1.
I cleared U.S. customs at Vancouver International Airport and the customs agent assured me that I've been admitted on a tourist visa and that this will cause no problem for my K-1. "It's good to September," he said. And I've checked my I94 online and it states my class of admission is B2.
Of course I was taken into second screening and had to answer a bunch of questions. But nothing crazy. "When are you getting married?" "Where do you live and what do you do in Vancouver?" "Who do you work for?" "Where does your fiance live?" And "Why don't you want to enter on your K-1 now?"
I got the impression that that last question was important. I said I still had things to tie up in Vancouver. My office wants me to do some work for them in July and I have still have furniture to sell, and that sort of thing. And that seemed to satisfy him. And in the end, I was admitted on a tourist visa and told that my K-1 remains valid until its expiration in September.
