    Yah, nothing to worry about.
My parents are old too, and doesn't understand English. The American CO at US Embassy Dhaka greeted and very politely interviewed them in Bangla.

Agree with you. This is the point one should make.
I am a USC and my parents got their B1/B2 visa last week. It was like a 5 min interview, no issues at all. They didn't even look at any of the different documents they took with them.
I think only time it would be denied if they already have an immigration visa application under processing.

I may find myself in this same situation as the OP soon.  I have friends who got their citizenship and their parents had 0 problems getting into the US on a tourist visa.

All they had to do was say if they wanted to stay in the USA, they'd take a legal path in, since it was available to them.  They just got the OK at that point with pretty much no interview.   Dominican Republic embassy, which is a tough one to get visa's from.

suhridkhan reacted to albym in My Colombian wife's successful strategy- B2 visa
    Hi all,

So my Colombian wife recently was granted a U.S. Tourist visa after a long journey to ensure we were in the best position to succeed. While our situation is unique, I'll mention it here in case others have similarities. I met my wife 6 years ago while I was living in Bogota (I am American) and we started dating. She is quite a bit younger than I and at the time had just started a university program and she was relatively poor and without assets. Her family was from the coast in the same economic situation so I didn't want to even bother applying at the U.S. Embassy in Bogota to save her the humiliation and money lost when rejected. In fact, I didn't want to apply at the Embassy in Bogota at all since the rejection rate is so high. We decided we would wait for her to get her Bachelor's degree, we'd move to another country where we'd both work, and then have her apply through the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in the 3rd country. During that time, I taught her English as well.

So we waited. She eventually earned her bachelors in her chosen profession in Bogota. We traveled internationally to as many other countries as we could to show evidence that she was a responsible traveler. We then got married in Mexico. I accepted another international job in Dubai with my employer taking care of her visa. After moving to Dubai, she was then able to get a job, a bank account, and save a bit of money. She subsequently applied to the U.S. Consulate in Dubai carrying all of her financial information, resume, work letter/contract, marriage certificate, my financial info. etc. They only asked to see her Colombian passport, work contract and my passport. They asked her 5-6 standard questions and most of the questions were clarifications about my work/visa status in the country. She was then granted the visa. She said the guy in here in Dubai was very nice and professional and made her feel at-ease.

I just wanted to contribute this in case there are others like me who work internationally but would like their foreign spouses to be able to visit home with them. I move countries every 3-5 years anyway, so this strategy worked for me. I firmly believe that my wife not applying in Colombia really helped her chances. Indeed, even with a job in Colombia, it would have been more difficult for her in my opinion.

based on these replies and some googling, I'm getting the idea that it may be better for him to apply for a tourist visa before the marriage, when I'm just his American girlfriend and not American wife

You should write a wedding invitation letter and have them take it to the interview... It's not a deciding factor but it's nice to have in case they were asked for it... Good luck

Once your husband got his interview scheduled, it means all requested docs were sufficicent. FYI, my relative's CEAC portal has incomplete fields too, and she has been in the US for 3 months already. Good luck.

You are a visitor with a VISA.   Normally the first time you enter you will be sent to secondary and your packet will be opened or the electronic file verified and then have your fingerprints taken.

Don't expect it to be fast.

When your VISA is stamped you will become a permanent resident.

    Good luck.

What worked for us was to put 0 in I864, and attach work contract that starts after we move which shows sufficient income. London was fine with that (and so was NVC, no RFEs)

I think a lot of people are making a mistake here for Part 6 Item 2. This is your CURRENT income which you THINK YOU'LL EARN in the current year. There is no where to get this number except your BEST GUESS. This is copied from the I-864 instructions: "Enter your current, individual, earned or retirement, annual income that you are using to meet the requirements of this affidavit and indicate the total in the space provided.
You may include evidence supporting your claim about your expected income for the current year if you believe that submitting this evidence will help you establish ability to maintain sufficient income. You are not required to submit this evidence, however, unless specifically instructed to do so by a U.S. Government official. For example, you may include a recent letter from your employer, showing your employer’s address and telephone number, and indicating your annual salary. You may also provide pay stubs showing your income for the previous six months. If your claimed income includes alimony, child support, dividend or interest income, or income from any other source, you may also include evidence of that income."

Online is faster to be received, not faster to be processed. That would require a shorter queue with less petitions. Processing time stays the same, theyre just able to get the petition maybe a few days to a week sooner. Only way processing times will go down is if there’s less petitions, but there’s more and more petitions every year, so I don’t think it’s going to go down any time soon for anyone. Saves paper, though

Hi, I wanted to start a new topic for those of us who applied using the new online application given that little is known about how this process will work. For those who are debating, the online process was super simple. You fill out an online form that basically auto-populates the I-130 PDF form that we all are familiar with and you get a download-able PDF version all filled out at the end. You are allowed to upload all you evidence as pdf or jpeg files. I did pdfs. I didn't have an issue with page/file limits as some others are mentioning but my longest file (relationship timeline) was only 9 pages long. We had the paper application all ready to go but I liked the idea of security in knowing that all the materials that were sent had arrived and I wouldn't have to stress about that.

We filed and received an IOE number and notification that our case had be accepted for review the very next day. On the case status, it says that our case is "being processed at our Integrated Operating Env location". Not sure what this means but have reached out for clarification. Will let you know what I hear.

If her OPT expired one year after graduating in 2013 and she only left in 2016, she overstayed for around 2 years right? In that case yes it is a 10 year ban and you will have to apply for a waiver. The waiver does not guarantee she will be able to immigrate, but if she overstayed and has a ban, it’s your only shot besides waiting or moving over to her yourself. USCIS does not send letters to people to notify them if they’re about to or have overstayed or not. That is the individual’s own responsibility to make sure not overstay and leave the country on time. D/S does not mean you get to overstay. An F-1 is for completing a schooling program, once the program is complete, the visa is fulfilled. OPT only gives you so long to stay to do practical training, not forever. Her OPT was only valid for one year, it doesn’t excuse an overstay beyond that

You are right. Tax transcript is what you get from IRS. You can download them from their website after creating an account. You can also request them by calling them.
Tax return is what you submit to IRS when you file your tax.
'tax return transcript' is the same as tax transcript.

Have you researched theses costs in the USA? Depending on type of delivery, it can range from $30-50k.  Even someone who is flush with that type of cash may want to put it toward something that you can't pay for with insurance, such as a college fund for the baby.

Legal stay of insurance requirement aside, you will want to make sure you have insurance for her from the moment she arrives.

Hi all, wanted to share the news that we were approved on 11/1 in Mumbai! Not without a roller coaster where the CO gave my wife a 221(g), gave no explanations why and told us they'd call us 3-5 days, went to our car, saw a missed call from a Mumbai number, called, were asked to return back for a re-interview, and received the approval slip without any questions asked.

Now we have the approval in our hands and waiting for the passport with visa!

A few questions from this point on for those who have gone through it:

From here, do you just check the US Travel Docs website for updates on the passport return? After our interview ended I checked and it said our passport was with Mumbai. This weekend and this morning I checked and the document delivery information is blank. CEAC also just says it's at Mumbai. Is that normal? We're planning to fly back together with Newark (EWR) as our port of entry. Has anyone also posted what their experience is like at the US border? About how long after the visa is issued is a social security number made available? With the visa in hand, how easy is it to travel back to India or other countries? Any things to keep in mind before doing so?
Thanks again to all who have helped through this process!

I don't think it will cause an automatic rejection but they may ask him to fix either one of the documents. How about this: is it easy to get a passport in Honduras? Can he get a new passport before his interview and tell them to correct the birth date on the new passport, with proof as the birth certificate? I don't think the Embassy cares about the Honduras ID.

Also, does your husband know how cold it gets in Iowa? Is he out of his mind?
