  1. You do need that information.

They need to be American citizens and provide a birth certificate. American citizens have SSN's so it's required.

May I ask, why don't they want that info listed? Do they not have them? Or for personal reasons?

I see. Does it need to be an American citizens or a permanent resident will do with a SSN?

One don't want or not willing to give his SSN for personal and security reasons, I believe. We just don't wanna pushed them or anyone for that matter.

Thank you for the reply. It truly help. :)

  2. hi! :)

we are preparing the documents needed to report our marriage. one thing we don't know about is the Information Sheet on Filipinos Marrying Foreign Nationals. are we the one to do that? i mean is it like making a letter or testimony? this information sheet is not really clear to us, please let us know where or how to get/do it. :help:

your help is truly much appreciated. :luv:

    Hi there,

Please check this link PHIL.CONSULATE IN HAWAII

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks! And Aloha!! :goofy::)

  3. My wife came here on a K-1 visa. We are married and awaiting processing of the AOS. She has her EAD card. She also has a State ID card. We plan a trip back to the Philippines in about a year from now.

Her passport is in her maiden name. We will have to purchase her plane ticket in her maiden name.

We plan on getting her passport amended at DFA while in the Phils to show her married name.

We are sending next week the Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad form and the Information Sheet on Filipinos Marrying Foreign Nationals to the Philippine Embassy in Wash DC. This will ensure the records at CFO and DFA reflect our marriage when we travel back to the Phils and get her passport changed.

We plan on purchasing round trip tickets. Now after her passport name change to her married last name her passport name will not match her plane ticket.

Purchasing one way tickets is much more expensive. We are trying to avoid that. When I purchased my round trip ticket to go bring my wife here, I purchased her a one way ticket (800 USD) and myself a round trip ticket (1200 USD). Using Northwest Airlines flying from Charleston South Carolina to Manila.

Has anyone been through this and what did you do to prevent purchasing one way tickets???

  4. You can file 90 days before March 15 2009. I assume as you have only questioned the date you meet all other requirements to file after 3 years on grounds of marriage.

A quick calculation says you can file on December 16th but double check my counting back of the 90 days. Make sure the application is not post marked before the 90 days.

    Aloha,

Where is this 90 day window officially mentioned? What I see in the government propaganda explicitly says 3 years.

    Mahalo,

    Bill and Joan

    In the n-400 instructions!

If you are applying based on five years as a Lawful Permanent Resident or based on three years as a Lawful Permanent Resident married to a U.S. citizen, you may apply for naturalization up to 90 days before you meet the ''continuous residence'' requirement.

    Aloha bro!

    Right on da kala. Mahalo.

  6. Aloha,

Joan and I are trying to pin down application dates so we can begin budgeting for them. Two questions -

    1. Her AOS expires 3/25/10. We can apply for ROC on 12/26/09??

    2. Naturalization - every thing I read is worded in subtly different ways. We can apply three years after her AOS was approved (3/25/11)??

    Mahalo,

    Bill and Joan

Same date but a year later. 12/26/10

    Aloha ka haole,

That date is for naturalization?? No understando.

90 days before the 3 year expiration date of her/his original GC. That's if still married and living together. If split up it's 5 years

I don't see anything about a 3 month window like the RoC has. What I am reading is -

THE 3 YEARS START AFTER THE DATE ON YOUR CONDITIONAL (2 YEARS) PERMANENT RESIDENT GREEN CARD STARTS... Plus you also have to be married to your US Citizen Spouse for 3 years by then.

  9. Hey everybody here in visajourney. I got my Employment Permit today and so happy about it. I'm thinking to get a job very soon so im wondering if i need to get an SSN number cause till now i dont have SSN number. Do i need to wait for my greencard to get an SSN number? Or the USCIS will give this SSN number to me?How can i get my SSN number? Do you think i can work without my SSN number? If no, where do you think i can get it? I'm a little confused about. your help is well appriciated. Thanks

need to go to the nearest SSA office and apply

Yup  go to the their office and apply for one. You need to get one and you don't need to wait for your greencard to be able to get SSN. You need to apply yourself.

If you're already married bring a copy of your marriage certificate and ID. Bring also original marriage certificate in case they might check it.

If not you'll have Social Security card on your maiden name and you can change it later.

  11. Hello~

Just recently my fiance received his K1 Visa and will be flying to Washington State this Saturday. He is from Mexico. What is our next step in this process? I know we need to do AOS and EAD???? Where can I find these forms and where do I send them? Where can I find more information? What else do we need to do??? Our ultimate goal is for him to become a citizen after the required length of time. Please give me any advice.

    Thank you so much!!

    Hi! :)

Uh huh getting married first is your next step. You can find the needed AOS forms and other information on this link: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos

This topic will also help you on your AOS journey http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=307

    Good luck! ;)

  12. ...What happens if we do not get married within the 90 day validity of the K1 visa?

A.. In this case, you can no longer file for Adjustment of Status based on being a K1.You will have to submit an I-130 relative petition along with the I-485 and all the other paperwork to the local USCIS (INS) office. You may have to have another medical exam, and you will need to be prepared to answer questions about why you did not get married within 90 days. In effect, you will have become an out-of-status alien who is adjusting status based on marriage to a US Citizen.

  13. Can anyone tell me where law or rule says that NOA1 for I-485, passport with K1 visa, and marriage license are the proof of legal status for K-1 visa holder who married USC within 90 days of entry?

Or USCIS webpage that shows marring USC within 90 days of entry grant lawful stay beyond the date stamped on I-94?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi! :)

Here's the link you can check out regarding your concerns: http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-aos.html

Filing for Adjustment of Status within the 90 days protects your legal status. Your legal status as a K1 expires after 90 days, married or not. The only way to protect your legal status is to apply for Adjustment of Status, and the only way to maintain continuous legal status is to file for AOS before the K1 visa expires. On the practical side, it is often difficult to arrange for the marriage, and get all the paperwork ready in time to file for AOS within 90 days. Many newsgroup couples have filed for AOS a few days or weeks after the 90 day limit with no problems. Thus far, newsgroup experience has shown this is not a major issue with local USCIS (INS) offices.

    Hope it helps. ;)

  14. Aloha,

My manager is an immigrant from the Netherlands. He received a non-expiring green card in 1981. When recently returning from a visit to Holland, the customs agent gave him humbug because the card was so old it didn't have the technology allowing it to be scanned. The agent suggested he replace it. The question is how does he go about doing this??

    Mahalo,

    Bill

    http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

    Here's the form!

    Mahaaaaaaaalo.

  15. Part 1:

How do I know if Glen has an A# or I-94#? Where would I find these?

And under the question "Current USCIS Status," do I put "K1 petition approved" and then fill in the expiration date in the next blank?

    Part 3:

What is form I-94?? I feel like I should know, but I'm drawing a blank!!

And what do I put for "In what status did you last enter?"

The A# is on the passport/visa (under the annotation), you can also find it on I-94 mine was written on the back as I recall.

We put "K1 Visa Holder" same with 'In what status did you last enter?'

I-94 is a Departure Record. It was given to me on the airplane, signed it & the immigration staff will attach it to your passport.

It will be stamped at the POE by Dept. of Homeland Security & customs & border protection.

We put the same as K1 Visa Holder. Because that's my last status when I entered.

  16. Im missing my physical examination due to my period. Im wondering how it is performed. Im getting so nervous and I will be so shy to be seen naked. I have an ovarian cyst too, will they see that? and would it be a problem?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

You won't be having any problem probably. I had a period on the day of my physical. They will perform other test like x-ray and others and they will let you come back after your period is done to do other tests needed. About your ovarian cyst, that I don't know. Most possibly the doctor will see it, but don't worry or rather get too nervous and shy seeing naked since you will be examine by a lady doctor. If any case you'll not, try to request for a female doctor, ok!

    Good luck! :)
