Mike E got a reaction from 2022 in 'Certified' copy of birth certificate for I-485
Attach a photo copy of the official document that complies with https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/NewZealand.html
Birth Certificates
The Registrar's Office in Wellington issues birth certificates. Beneath the columns containing facts of birth, including parent's details, is the seal of the Registrar and the date on which the certificate was issued, but such sealed copies bear no signature. Short form Certificates of Date of Birth which do not show the parents' details are not acceptable for visa purposes. For more information including current fee, please click here.

Mike E got a reaction from OldUser in Filing taxes after moving to the U.S. (MERGED)
https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-8/chapter-I/subchapter-C/part-316/section-316.5
“
2) Claim of nonresident alien status for income tax purposes after lawful admission as a permanent resident. An applicant who is a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States, but who voluntarily claims nonresident alien status to qualify for special exemptions from income tax liability, or fails to file either federal or state income tax returns because he or she considers himself or herself to be a nonresident alien, raises a rebuttable presumption that the applicant has relinquished the privileges of permanent resident status in the United States. ”
Your plan to file as an NRA will risk your status as an LPR and reset your clock for naturalization. This is another reason, and perhaps is the reason why LPRs are expected to file tax returns.

Mike E got a reaction from Dashinka in IR1 Visa Denied at POE
Given that we now have a confirmed report of CBP denying entry via IR-1, it would be a bad idea for any immigration visa holder to resign a position and/or terminate ownership or lease hold of a dwelling before attempting to use an immigration visa. A catch-22.
The illogic of these CBP officers knows no bounds.

Mike E got a reaction from Redro in Husband is an Inmate..What do we do?
You won’t know what impediments you face until you attempt the process. As a famous immigrant to the USA once said:
”You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.”
Prepare I-130 / I-130A for your husband to sign and get moving on the process. Until that is approved, all this speculation about what will happen during the visa process is just speculation.
Also if you didn’t have a prenuptial agreement, this is a good time for both of you to consider signing a post-nuptial agreement given the clear asymmetry in assets and income.

https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/learn-about-citizenship/i-am-the-child-of-a-us-citizen
Children who were born outside the U.S. but now live in the U.S. may acquire citizenship under Section 320 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). A child born outside of the United States automatically becomes a U.S. citizen when all of the following conditions have been met on or after Feb. 27, 2001: The child has at least one parent, including an adoptive parent, who is a U.S. citizen by birth or through naturalization; The child is under 18 years of age; The child is a lawful permanent resident (LPR); and The child is residing in the United States in the legal and physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent. Mike E got a reaction from throwitaway in Politics of Petulance (title renamed to match original post)
TR was a RINO.
Lincoln, Reagan, Trump, were the only good and effective GOP presidents. I can understand the hate for Trump, but a lefty article that fails to bring up Reagan is absurd.
If you read a righty article that said Truman and Clinton, were neither good nor effective presidents, would you take it seriously?
C’mon.

Mike E got a reaction from laylalex in K1 (lgbt) previously married to a male now engaged to another female
If you are asking if I this a red flag that you plan to marry someone who is a different gender than your first spouse, the answer is no.
Also, State and USCIS, in my personal experience, don’t care if you started a romantic relationship while still married to the USA citizen who petitioned your own green card. Maybe you or your fiancée will get asked about it. In your case and in my case, your marriage was irrevocably broken, and the evidence was divorce proceedings.

Mike E got a reaction from GM300 in Filing for SSN before or after marriage, K1
In general best results occur when you apply for an SSN:
* 2-10 working days after before date of entry, and
* before marriage
As @Ontarkie frequently points out, the SSA policy memo says a K-1 fiance(e) is eligible to file for an SSN.
Some SS workers interpret this to mean that a married K-1 is not eligible for an SSN.

Indeed. Secondary inspection is like the cantina scene in the 1977 Star Wars movie. All kinds of strange and disturbing things there. Good decision, and ironically it added to your angst.

Mike E got a reaction from Downloader in Did the interviewing officer lie?
the sole option
7. parent and grand parent must attend interview.
8. Once child leaves field office with certificate of citizenship, child must apply for and receive a U.S. passport before leaving the U.S. Backlogs are months, and an emergency appointment might be needed.

Mike E got a reaction from Dashinka in Electric vehicles have an efficiency problem
There is no Tesla app store.
You might be able use the on board web browser to access Apple Maps. Not on my Tesla, because the web browser on my hardware level is too slow.
On road trips, I download offline google maps to my phone in case I lose connectivity. For example, CA 1 from Monterrey to Big Sur was a bad dead zone, and might still be. So losing info about locations of super chargers is dangerous. At times I am still forced to use offline google maps on my phone.
You have to pay for a subscription for cell connectivity in new Teslas. On mine, LTE is lifetime.
No worries.

Noted.
And on that note:
I've contributed all I can, and I don't wish to argue or bicker, so I won't post more in this thread.

And says there was marriage ceremony. The consensus was correct: not eligible for K-1.
That OP was not able stop modifying the content of other contributors. When folks demonstrate they cannot operate a motor vehicle on public roads, they lose their drivers license.
i’ve only seen that once.
Usually people announce their exit from a thread after contributing to it, and then realizing the thread is heading toward a violation of terms and conditions. This can lead to getting a timeout from management.
Lately I’ve been doing less public “Mike E”-ing because it isn’t worth it. Doing more silent unfollowing. Perhaps the website can be enhanced to automatically note when a public follower has left.
I will say this about VJ: I can report a topic or post without fear of reprisal. On reddit you can be banned for reporting a post or comment. I hope VJ continues to provide that safe harbor.
