kalikala got a reaction from DLESPITIA in AOS - no income as we live overseas, but have assets, country of domicile is USA
    Hi everyone

I've done a search of previous threads that may be in a similar situation as we are and found some answers, but I just want to check I have everything in order more specific to our situation before submitting documents to NVC.

This is our situation in a nutshell:
My husband is the petitioner/sponsor for myself (spouse) and our 18month old son and we are currently living in New Zealand. Husband intends to continue working for a company he co-owns with his brother-in-law as soon as visa is approved and we can all migrate together. Have property assets and savings.
Questions regarding the Affidavit of Support:
I will be stating in Part 6 - Sponsor's Employment and Income: currently unemployed so will indicate current individual income as zero. Will it be enough to submit the AOS without a joint sponsor if we state in Part 7 - Use of Assets to Supplement Income all our assets with supporting documentation? AND; Provide a letter of employment stating that my husband will commence work as soon as we move indicating annual income (which will meet the poverty guidelines threshold)?
    Thank you!

Had my interview today at Auckland embassy in New Zealand. They asked:
    1. What’s your favourite color
    2. Where did you meet your husband
    3. How did the relationship progress after the first meeting
    4. Why do you want to move to the USA

Then they said you’ve been approved!!! Didn’t ask for any documents or proof of relationship, photos etc!!! Also they let my husband come to the interview with me

We have been married 4 years and living together in NZ so that probably made it easier.

Thanks everyone here for all the help and support and wishing you all the best!

    Those waiting for interview, here is an official response from NVC to the AILA made in 2015 about how they setup interviews at various consulates (Posts);

NVC schedules appointments two times per month on a first-come, first-served basis based upon the appointment capacity of the post. If a case is documentarily qualified (DQ), it will be placed in the appointment queue and a letter confirming DQ status will be sent to the agent/beneficiary. Most interviews are scheduled within 30 days of the case being recognized as DQ. But, if demand at a particular post is high, it may take longer. NVC receives posts’ appointment capacity only on a monthly basis so is not able to predict when a specific case may receive an interview appointment. Once an appointment has been set, NVC sends a notice to the applicant with the appointment date and time, along with a link to the post website with further information about how to prepare for the interview. The case file is then prepared for shipping (or electronic transfer for posts who accept electronic processing) and sent to post within 10 days. Posts receive appointment and shipment lists from NVC electronically and generally receive the physical case file within 10 days of the scheduled interview.

Sounds like you're set!  We were amazed at how rapid the entire process was after our NOA2.  From the day he received his visa to his biometrics appointment for the green card was only like 7 weeks!  Auckland is extremely efficient and competent, and not as busy as other consulates.

From what I remember, after going through security there was a short wait time until I got called to do some fingerprints and then I paid some fees.
Then I got told to wait again until I was called up to a window booth type thing. So you won’t be going into a small room.
The officer was friendly, he had my papers in front of him and as he went through them he asked some questions. The one I remembered was “how did you meet your fiancé?”, “what does he do”.
It was only a few questions. Then that was it! He said you’re approved and that your passport will come in the mail.

I wish you the best, I’m sure it will all go well

    Hi @Lynxwarden
Congrats and all the best for your interview! I’m sure it will all go well

When you mentioned that they said there won’t be interview openings until May 23rd, was that advised by the Auckland consulate?

Ive been waiting for an interview to be scheduled by NVC since March 6th and as I understand, NVC waits for the Auckland embassy to provide available interview slots then schedules accordingly. But I’ve been waiting for so long and I have seen others from NZ who already have interviews and their documents were accepted after mine.

Hello @Jorgedig I noticed you mentioned above that Auckland are efficient and competent. That’s what I thought too but I’ve been anxiously waiting for my interview for almost 2 months and I’m about to lose my mind!

Edit: this is for the CR-1/IR-1 visa

    Thank you for your suggestion.

I called NVC and they said I’m in line for an interview since CC March 6th.
He said when the embassy sends the available dates then NVC fills them in order of CC date. He didn’t mention anything about priority date and I assume this info is for CR-1 category.

So I said I’ve seen that others from NZ embassy have interviews and their CC date is after mine. He said he can’t verify that unless he has those case details and couldn’t give me a reason why but said perhaps I was skipped and I will be in the next round of scheduling.
And he said people say can anything on the internet and that people tell them this all the time that others get dates earlier than others. Which I understand they probably do hear this over and over again but it doesn’t help.
Obviously we just want to know why and we want to know when we will be scheduled.

So nothing much I can do but wait.
