tlatrice70 got a reaction from Crazy Cat in Obtaining SSN based off an Expired Visa
    UPDATE:
I went to a different location and they processed the application with NO problems. I didn't have to explain anything. They took my husband passport, asked him two questions and handed  him a receipt.

The endorsement stamp IS THE GREEN CARD...until the plastic one arrives.....Go to another SSA office or speak to the supervisor.......

The visa expiration date printed on the visa is totally irrelevant as of entry into the US.

Ugh. I hate this. I’ve seen this before and I really feel like this is denial just because they don’t understand culture...and that’s just not okay.

Before your fiancé comes, I would have them print everything out so you two can fill it out together. Let it be three copies of everything—one for each of you and then one to be sent in. You don’t have to wait for anything to come in the mail for your denied K1....just send everything as soon as spouse arrives back home.

My husband and I were denied K1 in 2016 because they didn’t believe our relationship was bona fide. We got married later that year, and actually thought about me (the USC) being the one who immigrated, so I made lots of trips back and forth. Ultimately with all the bills and stuff piling up for me at home, mostly from student loans, we decided to just bite the bullet and file for IR1 in May. Now begins the waiting game again.

    Good luck to you both!

I won’t say they don’t understand culture actually they do ... the traditional marriage in Ghana is the real cultural marriage in Ghana except u want to add the court or church wedding so to the CO if u take any traditional marriage pix then u r married .. Ghana traditional marriage which some call engagement isn’t the same in the states that’s y they take it very serious here 😊

Hello everyone, I haven't been here since my petition was approved and sent to NVC. I just received an email with my NVC Case Number and Invoice ID Number. We received USCIS petition approval letter on the 25th of June 2019, case was sent on the 4th of July 2019 and email from NVC, today the 27th of July 2019. It was much faster than I expected. Praise God.

Experience....my husband just arrived in the US 2 months ago. I also have a friend who works for the dept of state. I asked her about the updates and she told me the date changes when somebody updates a field. It does not update if somebody is just viewing the screens..you'll hear something soon.

Hello I also just received my interview date in 3/11. I’m planning to arrive there one day before the interview. My question is once  we pass the interview (wishful thinking 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙂🙂🙂) how long does it take for us to get the visa? My thing is I only have 2 weeks of vacation. I’m buying a one way ticket there then once he passes we’ll buy a return ticket home together. Would 2 weeks be enough time?

    Sorry to respond late dear.
It's currently taking 3-4 months. The last one I saw was 140 days from the case completion date to the date of interview.

So I have been counting the days.

I have two cases and one of them, I'm at 81 days since case completion so hopefully will hear in the next month or so

May God's grace be upon us, may he make ways that seem impossible and give us patience because this journey requires A LOT OF IT.

Sermonizing not required. Misrepresentation on DS forms is serious and could lead to a ban.

Choosing to call your dog a horse doesn’t make it a horse. A dog is a dog is a dog. A marriage certificate is a marriage certificate. She’s married. That said Ghana is country where anything goes and I can produce a legitimate death certificate while I am alive and walking around. I should know, that’s where I am originally from.

So to answer your question, they’re married and if he fills out his visa application as unmarried, it’s fraud. That said the probability it’s ever found out (without them admitting it themselves or committing a blunder) is almost nil.

The choice is theirs to do what is right, or what is convenient. I won’t sermonize.

There are NO invitation letters for tourist visas.  That is a myth.  And it is very unlikely given this entire scenario that he will receive a B-2 visa.
