Howdy fellas...long time no see...just had that random urge to do a drive-by of the RUB. Good to see some familiar faces! How have you all been?! Anyone stirred up the other forums lately? That used to get me through some long days...highly entertaining stuff. Anyway, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Hanukkah, Festivus, etc.to all of you.

Yep...we've officially cranked out baby number 2, an 8 lb 14 oz girl. I've got one of each now and thank God, they both look more like her than me!

Anyway, long story short, the doctor told us the baby had not descended very far so I was mentally bracing for a long day. Ah...but this is a Ukrainian woman...

My wife almost shot the baby out on the very first push and the doctor had to tell her to stop because she wasn't ready yet. After the doc finally got into her catcher's gear and lined up on the plate, it was over in about 20 seconds.

All is well and we're back at home reminiscing about how we used to sleep.

I'll have to stop back in and see what everyone is up to when I get more time (probably in about 18 years eh?). Hope all the RUB regulars are doing well.

Been a while since I've checked in on the good ole RUB forums, but thought I'd stop by and share another VJ milestone. My MIL arrived a couple weeks ago along with her dog. She's acclimated very well so far...she's got a gym membership, has started some ESL classes, and is already drinking diet cokes (with ICE no less!!!) and eating all sorts of American food. Our baby is already quite attached to her and my wife is ecstatic to have her around again! Life is good! Hope everyone here on the RUB forum is also doing well...I'm sure there's a lot of new faces here by now, but hopefully some of the old-timers are still here also.

Wow! Congrats, Brad! I also had to do the 9 months of silence when we had our son. Congrats also on getting the MIL over to help out. Ours has had her visa for a couple months and is joining us next month. We can't wait to have some more help and just to see her too!

Life has just gotten more difficult for you I'm sure...but it's so much more interesting too...definitely worth it! You're going to love it more and more with each month that goes by...well, until she becomes a teenager! You know what they say...if you have a son, you only have to worry about one boy...but if you have a daughter, you have to worry about hundreds of boys! =)

Your birth certificate would be apostilled in the USA before you go over...that's how that is authenticated to the Ukrainian government. The apostille lets them be sure that your document is the real deal...they can look it up on their side and see that it is a true official document. The letter of non-impediment follows a similar idea, but since you can't get it apostilled over there, you follow another process that accomplishes the same goal (they have on file the seals from the officers working at the US embassy so if it has their seal, they trust that it's legit).

Honestly, other than what I wrote in that post a long time ago, I don't remember much else about the overall process. I think that is right though...apostilled birth certificate, passport with translation, and that letter of non-impediment. What you would want to do is have your fiancee go RAGS/ZAGS and talk to them directly ahead of time to find out what they really require. She'll probably have to make some unofficial payments to them to get everything lined up...but whatever they say they require is what you are ultimately going to need to bring.

Just put this in other thread....we also got married in Ukraine but ended up doing a K1 visa (USCIS decided for us)...CR1 is definitely better though so stick with that. We also did the marriage in Ukraine and it was absolutely the best decision. I posted a pretty detailed write up (complete with photos of some of the buildings to make locating them easier) here a few years back...not sure if it's still hanging around or not. But if you're sure you have the right woman you're definitely on the right track getting married there...so many wonderful traditions!

Dang...how'd I miss that! I used to read the craziest stories on here while killing time. Remember that mcat guy? Oh man...that was a good one. It was so absurd people thought he was making it up...sadly I think it was legit.

I changed jobs as well, so not as much time to kill surfing the Interwebs. I just pop in every once in a while to see if a new s#$%storm has erupted....it's sadly been quite disappointing lately.

Congrats LL!! We are a loooong way from letting MIL move in permanently, but she did get a five year visitor visa.

We've got a 1 year old and another on the way....we're very much looking forward to her getting here! hahaha

We were delayed by about a week due to forgetting a signature on an I-864A that was part of our AOS...it was really hard to see due to the way the form is laid out and we somehow missed it. My wife called NVC today for the first time to make sure they got it and found out our case had just been completed today as well! NVC is so much better than USCIS.

Thanks for sharing, Kip! Very very similar to our civil ceremony and reception. We also had a rug we stepped on at the same time (we were not supposed to look at it)...hmm....no one told me anything about first one stepping on it would be in charge...going to have to find out the story on that one! lol At the reception we had a loaf of bread that we broke apart and the person who got the biggest piece was going to be the boss. My wife had a stranglehold on it and I was just barely holding an end...they were all shocked when a tiny piece broke off where she was holding it and I was left holding the big piece. We drank a lot, but not nearly as much as you guys did! Oleksandra's friends actually cut us both off very early so that there would not be any....ahem...problems! lol I'll have to go scrounge up some pictures...

I think the differences are a LOT bigger than just 2D versus statues. Theological differences, philosophical differences, and the whole Pope thing.

Yeah...I know there are some deeper differences than that! lol But they don't typically emphasize the differences in the services...so other than a few minor visual things...whether you are Catholic or Orthodox, there's not going to be a huge difference in services.

I have always been kind of non-denominational to be honest because I just don't think you can know which flavor is the correct one (if there even is a correct one). I stick to the basics and let others worry about the details. Back in Ukraine, my wife went pretty interchangeably between Orthodox and Catholic churches and didn't even know what the differences were. When she came over here we started off going to a Catholic church near where we lived but it wasn't at all like what she was used to...for example...you had pews to sit in and the services are only like an hour long. We found a nice little Orthodox church that was much more like what she was used to back home (standing for 3 hours or so at a time, for one). Only problem was, we were talking to the main priest about our situation and how we were married in a Catholic church and he told us that they don't even consider Catholics to be Christians! I had no idea they take the minor differences so strongly but I think it's silly...the services are basically the exact same other than Catholics have statues and Orthodox only have 2D icons. Anyway, I'm sort of Bapticathodox at this point.

It is. And if you HAVE kids, as you do now Tbone, it is THE major thing. I see people that for them their kids are "competitors" taking from them what they could have. Pissed off that they do not have a bass boat because they have children to "pay for"! The great thing about kids is they will keep you very busy for a very long time and if you can enjoy that for what it is (and it IS great) then you will be the happiest man in the world. The only thing most of us can ever do to make a difference in this world after we get put in the ground is to produce and raise some good kids. That is more than a cliche. That's where I invest all our money. My portfolio is four great sons.

And if you and your wife agree that "this is our job" and you both are willing to make it priority number 1, you are golden!

That is the part Alla and I did. Holding the crowns! I thought it was pretty cool at first, but then was wishing he would talk faster! It is quite an elaborate ceremony and fascinating. I am not religious at all but I enjoyed it. I am not sure if my religious affiliation (protestant) ever had anything to do with it, I suspect it was not discussed. The Priest as I recall was very adamant that the civil ceremony be done first, I am not sure if all churches require that or not.

Yeah. In our case, the priest was very worried when my fiancee told him she was going to get married to an American. We both had to take all these classes with a bunch of other couples that were getting married and additionally, I had to convert to Catholicism and take additional classes for that too. It was rough because I had a super long flight over to Ukraine and when I arrived my wife told me we had to go to the classes in like 15 minutes. I was doing my best to stay awake because I knew the Priest was checking me out! lol But yeah the actual ceremony was really long. We circled the altar a bunch of times....held candles (that you were not supposed to look at), etc. The problem in our case was we had been running late all day and my thus my wife didn't have a chance to eat anything. So she was literally about to pass out and kept telling the priest that and to please hurry up! lmao Anyway, he still didn't speed it up enough and she just suddenly disappeared off to one of the side alcoves and one of her friends ran after her. So I ended up standing there alone for several minutes waiting....can you say awkward?!? lol I would have been freaking out except we'd already said the "I do"s and what not. I would have been more nervous during the day except that it overall it was really interesting and I was always waiting to see what was next because we hadn't really talked about what all we had to do. Someone basically cued me in to what I needed to do at the appropriate times. In hindsight that was probably a good thing. But yeah...what an amazing day.

I highly recommend the church wedding! My wife and I got married over in Ukraine so I was fortunate enough to have the civil ceremony followed right after by the church ceremony. Be prepared though...if it's anything like ours, it's pretty long...so long that my wife nearly fainted and had to go sit down at one point. Two of her friends had to hold these huge heavy crowns over our heads the whole ceremony as well....no idea how they made it. We had a big reception afterwards as well filled with many more rituals...there were so many I think we forgot to do a couple of the big ones we had planned. We had a couple videographers and photographers...maybe sometime when I get a chance I'll post them for those interested.
