  1. My fiancé (UK) made it into New York on July 4 from Serbia with no issues! He said customs didn’t even do a temp check or health questionnaire. They just glanced at his visa packet and asked if he was going to marry me within 90 days. He stayed overnight in a hotel and then flew into Detroit yesterday morning. He said an airport security guard greeted him at the gate when they landed and said “here’s the lucky guy!” We can only assume they were alerted by JFK that a K1 visa holder was coming into Michigan. I’m so glad we did this.

I read recently that Serbia is going back on lockdown due to a large jump in cases. If you’re in Serbia now, keep yourself safe because Belgrade has 80% of covid cases! My fiancé wore a mask everywhere he went even though no one else did. He stayed away from people as much as he could.
Anyways, I’m so relieved he made it. I haven’t seen him in 7 months!

Hi everyone! I arrived in Belgrade last night!

This morning I went with my Airbnb host to the police about the foreigner registration thing, because they told her on the phone that just a picture of my passport wasn't enough, and when we got there they told her they didn't need my passport at all. So lots of misinformation clearly! Other than that everything went well, I did fly with KLM via Amsterdam but had no issues whatsoever. The weather is very warm but it's supposed to rain soon. I'm slightly paranoid about so many people not wearing masks (especially taxi drivers, 0 out of 3 so far wore one), but I'm planning to stay mainly indoors anyway. It was one of the most stressful journeys I've done (second time in my life I'm moving to another country, but the first time I'm moving to another country during pandemic!), but I'm very happy that the first part is done! Now to just wait... :)

my fiancé (he’s from the UK) is in Belgrade and leaving Saturday morning for JFK. He said he’s been wearing masks in public and takes advantage of any hand sanitizer stores leave out. Be aware of bed bugs. He stayed in a hotel that was infested with bed bugs and got bit up pretty bad. Check your bed mattress on the seams and underneath. I don’t mean to sound gloom and doom, but bed bugs travel easily and chances are lots of hotels/air bnb have them.

We arrived in Belgrade two days ago so far pretty much everything is open (except of one museum so far). Restaurants are operating normally and the weather is super nice. We spend a lot of time in the park yesterday, eating icecream and enjoying the city. The city itself is a weird mix of really ugly and charming at the same time, so it won't get boring! Also the people are super nice. And food is cheap.

Also: Anyone in Belgrade right now? My finacé and I would love to meet up! Just shoot me a private message.

My fiancé is there until Saturday. He sent my pics of the city and it was awesome but really run down at the same time

I received my K1 visa in the post the day after the UK travel ban kicked in. I've been reading everyone's experiences so far going to other countries and been really inspired. Thank you all for sharing your stories.

I have until 3rd Sept on the visa but I'm getting pretty restless sitting here waiting. So I am beginning to plan a way for me to travel too from London possibly in next 2-3 weeks. Is Serbia still a good option? Is Air Serbia a reliable airline? I plan to take a direct flight to JFK from Belgrade with them.

    Any advice would be amazing

My fiancé is from England and in Belgrade right now. Hotels/food really cheap and so far people in this forum coming from Serbia to the US are getting in at JFK with no problem. I would advise you do the Serbia route ASAP. Things are changing so fast and the US government has not given any indication of extending K1 visas

  5. It’s so good to see people getting in the the US! 11 days until my fiancé gets here! Thank you everyone for giving good advice on this. My immigration attorney told me to have my fiancé stay home and wait this out. He kept assuring me his K1 visa would be extended. I told him that if the US government hasn’t made any plans to extend now, they likely won’t do it. I’m glad I followed my gut.

Belgrade to New York uodate: JFK still sucks but I entered on a K1. 🎉 it's straight forward to enter if you can work out spending 14 days outside of the restricted countries.

At Air Serbia's Belgrade check-in may have a wait because Air Serbia is reviewing your visa and where you where the last 14 days at check-in. It looks like most of the passengers were visa holders with many doing what we are all trying here in this thread. Air Serbia check-in asked if we have boarding passes to proove we were not in the travel restricted countries since we didn't have a stamp from exiting Schengen area into Croatia. Therefore I would suggest saving your boarding passes if you haven't already been doing it or at least print out a digital copy.

JFK was Kafkaesque as per usual.

Angry staff, conflicting instructions, confusing layout even with the new redesign, some flights got CDC checks, when I was sent to the room for K1 visa review only to hear other people being ushed out - it sounded like they were being denied entry, baggagecclaim took 40 minutes to completely unload the flight omto the belts, etc.

BCP didn't ask me or some of the other passengers anything of real substance,  or even look through your Visa-Consulate package. When asked where I was the past 14 days they didn't even ask for proof. (the opposite of flight check-in). CBP asks if you were screened by CDC. Dependingoon the officer you were told not to worry and they stamped you in, but other officers ushered us into a room where some folks casually asks where you were 14 days prior. When I responded with Croatia and Serbia, one guy said something to the effect of "That's one of the good countries" and told me to go back to CBP.

In other words it was as smooth as usual.

You should be able to book directly with Air Serbia.

Use Google Flights to search for flights if you have trouble. I was able to find a connecting flight from ZAG to BEG to JFK which Air Serbia's website wouldn't show me unless I had Google Flights link me to the flights. I even called Air Serbia and they had issues but once the flights were paid I called to confirm and everything was recorded in their database. 🤔

CBP or private security? Many US-bound flights have a private security firm screening passengers when they go for check-in. They will also be part of the (random?) carry on check while you are waiting at the gate.

The security theater is unreal for the US.

My fiancé is in Serbia now! He will be flying to JFK on July 4. This is so good to hear that you got in. I’ll make sure he has all his boarding passes. Congrats!

Hi there! I'm glad your fiancé is in Serbia!

Do you know why he was questioned in Amsterdam/why the airline even cared where he was going after going to Serbia? Couldn't he just have said that he was going to Serbia for holidays...?

I'm thinking about flying UK-Serbia via Amsterdam (with KLM) in a couple of weeks, too, and then take the direct flight from Serbia to NYC (after spending 14 days in Serbia), and this is making me worry.

Also, the American man who told him he wouldn't be allowed in the US is clearly wrong since so many people have managed to do just that.

So Manchester questioned him because he told them he was quarantining in Serbia before going to America. KLM doesn’t want the liability of sending someone to America if they’re not supposed to go because the airline could be fined heavily for it. Once he explained what was going on they let him go. I wouldn’t worry as long as you explain what you’re doing and show your ticket to America and hotel accommodations in Serbia. Serbia doesn’t care who comes in. They want the tourism!

  8. My fiancé made it to Serbia. Manchester airport gave him a hard time and Amsterdam pulled him out of the line before he boarded the plane to make sure he wasn’t going thru the Schengen Area before his flight to New York in two weeks. Customs in Serbia didn’t even ask why he was there and just let him right in. He’s safe in his hotel. I’m currently a nervous wreck. I just want him to be safe and I really hope he makes it to the US. Some American on his flight to Serbia told him he doesn’t think he will be let into the US. That really dampened his mood. I told him not to let him down because that guy doesn’t understand our situation or the rules.

KLM are hard work. My issues were with KLM and the guy that got denied boarding from Manchester to Mexico was KLM. But if they let him get to amsterdam they shouldn’t question him to Serbia? When we laid over in Amsterdam we didn’t see any check in staff again.

I figured as long as he can just get out of England he should be fine. My first encounter with Manchester customs two years ago was crazy. I was visiting my fiancé, and I had never been to England. He had come here the first time we met. Manchester doesn’t mess around. They questioned me about my family, job, home....

KLM staff in Amsterdam is super friendly and they are informed about everything. Should be smooth from here on out

    Perfect! Thank you!

He should contact air Serbia on Instagram they reply almost instantly and he can show them proof right there. It wouldn’t make sense for air Serbia to request proof that he can travel to the US since there are no restrictions between Serbia and US and no restrictions for people travelling with specific visas. What airline is he flying with from uk to Serbia?

I believe KLM. He’s flying to Amsterdam now for his layover before he goes to Serbia. He at least made it out of England.

I had to show my onward flight to the us. I had trouble at Heathrow as they questioned if my visa was banned. They had to ask a few people first. The problem is the restrictions are confusing and the British staff aren’t really up to date with it all and they interpret things incorrectly. I hope it all goes ok

I hope so too! Idk If Serbia would even care as to why he’s traveling.

I’ve been here since the 11th! Food drink transportation is very cheap! You can have a decent meal with like 10 euros or even less. Supermarket is cheap too. People are very nice and friendly, most people speak enough english to communicate. You can order food with wolt application (menus in English). Cargo is a taxi application to use. You can also ask the hotel restaurants etc to call you a taxi. The pink company is the cheapest one (here taxis are 4 private companies and have differences in prices). It is advised not to take taxis from the street or the airport cause they charge way too much for tourists.
people are wearing masks and there is antiseptic hell everywhere.
There are a lot of exchange desks in the city with better rates than the airport so keep that in mind too.
The castle is very nice to visit.

Zdravo is hello and hvala is thank you!

    good luck to your fiancé!

Were you told you needed official documentation for AirSerbia to show you could travel to the US? My fiancé is leaving  Manchester airport and they’re giving him a hard time saying he’ll need official documents to show them he can come here

Hey everyone! So I was supposed to fly to Mexico last Saturday, but after getting nervous about the increasing number of cases I have actually taken a different approach. I changed my KLM flight from Mexico to Seoul, South Korea where there are currently no restrictions with the UK or US. However, it does require staying in a government quarantine facility (a hotel by the airport for £65 a day) for 14 days where you can't leave your room. Food and WiFi is included, though if you're a fussy eater or have dietary requirements I would advise against it (or bring lots of snacks!). It's a long empty flight, and totally the wrong direction, but the Covid count is significantly less than Mexico. If all goes to plan, I'll be flying into the US in 10 days!

We considered South Korea as well, but I couldn’t afford the $100/night for the government assigned room. I’m sure the food will be pretty good though! My favorite sushi restaurant plays Korean tv and it’s pretty entertaining.

This is very disturbing news. My fiancee's flight and mine are in one week. She quit her job and her flat for next week. No where to go once she goes to the airport. Now I am stressed.

I was about to buy my fiancé a ticket today but decided not to. I spoke with a coworker from Mexico today and she said Mexico City is pretty dangerous if you’re not from there because you stick out like a sore thumb. I’d rather my fiancé be safe and alive with an expired visa at this point.
