KevinInATX got a reaction from TVQT1993 in incorrect order of name
so I went to our local Social Security Admin office to request a social card for my fiancee. I brought her passport, birth certificate and I-94 print out. The not so helpful lady then states that I filled out my fiancees form wrong with the name order...turns out that immigration input my (now wife) middle name as first, and her first name as her middle name.  The Vietnam passport shows Family name, middle name, first name in that order. I clearly put down on the I-129F application what her names are as it asks for the Family name, First and Middle. So essentially the lady said nothing she can do that she has to follow what Immigration put into the system and I have to deal with it at Green Card stage. She said her social secuirty would be sent out in about 4 weeks because I guess another system hasn't been verified yet or something and her POE was 02/21/19

So I am wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue for their Vietnamese fiancee/wife with the name order discrepancy. What is teh best fix for this. They are sending her the ss card with the incorrect order. I almost feel why have even bothered with getting it in the first place and just get it at green card stage anyhow. Any advice or insight would be excellent!
    Thank you!

I got a stack of text messages late last night at about 11pm.

    Messages stating:
    I-485 Received
    I-765 Received
    I-131 Received

Each text says a Receipt # and Official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) to follow in teh mail.

I then added each receipt number to the Case Tracker App .

The I-485 on case tracker says "Our National Benefits Center location is working on your case.
We mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case"

The I-765 and the I-131 both say "....sent you the notice that describes how we will process your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice"

Not really sure if the instructions are an RFE or something else. I hope not an RFE

The USCIS website under forms of you click the I-485 then the special instructions tab, you will read this:

“Filing Forms I-765 and I-131 with Form I-485
If you are filing Form I-485 and pay the required fee (or already filed Form I-485 and paid the required fee on or after July 30, 2007), you do not have to pay an additional fee to also file a Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorizationand/or Form I-131, Application for Travel Document for advance parole. You may file these forms together.”

My wife and many others from Vietnam experience this issue.  At the beginning of the process, the Vietnamese and U.S. name order conventions don't match.  Social Security is required to record the name exactly as it appears on the passport, visa, and I-94.  These will all show the Vietnamese name order.  As a result, my wife's first social security card had her name as MIDDLE, FIRST, LAST.  When we got her driver's license, they also had to issue it in the same order.  Agency staff understood what we were saying when we explained the name order differences between the two countries.  However, they have to follow strict guidelines related to verifying names based on the documents provided.

Luckily, this can eventually be corrected.  When my wife received her green card, it had the  "American" order for naming based on the I-485.  With the green card, we visited the Social Security Office to request a new card.  You'll do this anyway to get a card that does not say "not valid for employment."  She received the new "correct" card in about 10 days.   Next, we took the new social security card and green card to the Motor Vehicle Administration.  Two months after arriving in the U.S., my wife received a short-term, 8-month driver's license based on her K-1 immigration status.  With the new IDs, she was able to get the standard 8-year license with the corrected name order.

With the exception of her Vietnamese passport, all my wife's identification has now been "Americanized."  Just remember that if your wife is using her Vietnamese passport to travel, she needs to make sure to use the Vietnamese name order when purchasing airline tickets.  The name on the ticket and passport must be identical.  When my wife flew to Vietnam in December, a family ahead of us was not allowed to check in Korean Airlines because the names on their tickets were ordered differently than their passport.  Korean air staff understand the problem, but they must follow guidelines.

    Good luck - Jason

Well hello December filers I know I've been away for awhile, but I am reading and I am seeing October filers get approved now so you all have to be itching in your skins now as it's getting very close now for December filers. Cases this year seem to be flying through as compared with when I filed in May 2018, but that's a good thing for you. In fact I just got approved March 7th, 300 days and 10 months later. I was the last of my group now I'll make this one of my new homes. Hoping to see many happy comments soon as the first of the December approvals start to roll in soon.

Do not use a hyphenated name. That causes way more problems in the U.S. than you can imagine. Also, it doesn't matter (at your stage) how the name is entered. Just go with it. Trying to fight the feds over the order of a name is a fool's folly. Trust me on this, I work for the government. You can fix later, after everything is done (citizenship).

This is exciting. Interview was Monday. Went into AP yesterday and earlier today it still said AP as if yesterday. Just checked and now says issued. Told her she is not leaving her house for anything tomorrow.  lol.

I know how to track her Visa through mail too but so far it hasn't been created.

She is beyond happy although the consular officer and I were kind of giggling as we watched my Fiance my answer questions lol but answered all the questions right by answering others wrong lmao. it was cute. They could tell she knew everything but she was such a train wreck lol.

Nothing was more frustrating to see people days and even weeks after my early April NOA1 get their NOA2 before me. In fact, was even more frustrating to see people in May get their NOA2 prior to me as well. My friend who is about 3 months in front of me in the K1visa process with same beneficiary country got his NOA2 in 188 days. My background is squeaky clean and all my supporting evidence for the I-129 was near identical as my friends and my NOA2 came in 201 days. While I agree it is frustrating to wait, it is really out of your hands. The one thing I kept telling myself is that everyone pays the same fee and sooner or later they will adjudicate your file.
Having said that, the Visa process is a bit better. Try not to get discouraged and you’ll be on through to the next part soon enough. My advice would be try to understand your embassy’s Visa process now while you are waiting if you haven’t already. I got a little blindsided not understanding how the DS-160 works here in Vietnam. Everyone’s embassy is different and what a bunch of hoops I had to jump through here in Vietnam pay the fee that my benificary would have had a hard time with.

I’m not discounting anyone’s experience. Just saying that some people’s NOA2s are longer than others for whatever reasons and nothing you can do.
Im not frustrated anymore as I already have the interview appoinment stage now at this point.

Your summation is what I was trying to say...More less just offering some advice and commiserating with some people’s waiting frustrations.

By the way, that link you shared they had some kind of nasty RFE I imagine, hence that wait

Your 5 years experience is very valuable  but my experience is just very recent and more on a relatable level than your practical level
