Olichka reacted to carmel34 in N-400 Scheduled with I-751 Still Pending
The same thing happened to my husband, and we didn't want to take a chance that USCIS would not connect the N-400 with the pending I-751, as sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. When they don't, at the N-400, they will say they can't approve it without receiving the I-751 file first. So to avoid this potential problem, my husband wrote a letter to the USCIS field office (address on the N-400 interview notice), and requested a combo interview. The letter included a copy of the N-400 interview notice and his pending I-751 receipt number and 48-month extension letter. A week after sending the letter, he received another interview notice for the I-751, same day and time as the N-400 interview, requesting that he bring me as his spouse and evidence of our marriage relationship since filing the I-751 (two years before). Everything went well; we were questioned together for the I-751, then I was asked to leave and the officer proceeded with my husband's N-400 interview. Now he's waiting for his US passport. Good luck! You're almost done with the crazy world of USCIS!

I would certainly prepare for a combo interview. In our case, our I-751 was not initially mentioned in wife's N-400 interview notice. But, I was notified a few days prior to interview date that my attendance was required for the interview (combo).

It can be a combo interview, so please go with your spouse just in case. You don't need to call USCIS right now.

We filed online on Feb 5th, and on Feb 11 we got a notice that fingerprints were scheduled! Once we got that notice, the time went from 19 months to 9 months !
Our I-751 that was pending since July 13, 2021 and it also changed statuses a few times. They reused our biometrics (attaching picture of I-751 timeline).
Fingers crossed this proceeds won’t be long !!

Olichka reacted to Pitaya in Who looks at RFE responses - officer of your case ?
Since there is a unique reference number associated with each RFE. You are requested to include the numbered RFE letter at the top of your response. This is likely done so that the info submitted in response to the RFE gets to the adjudicator that issued the RFE.
Good luck on your immigration journey.

Husband had his interview on the 20th of this month. Everything went smooth, and everything that I assembled was barely look at!
We didn't bring a translator and the officer allowed me to translate for my husband, but he answered everything by himself.
Here are the questions that my husband was asked:
1. What is your wife's name?
2. Where does your wife work?
3. When if your wife's birthday?
4. What date did you come to the U.S?
5. What date did you get married?
Everything else was asked from our AOS paperwork ( he picked about 10 questions form the Yes/No section).
He then asked for copies and originals of things like marriage/birth certificates, SSN, Drivers Licences, etc.
I translated my husbands birth certificate but the officer wanted that notarized. He also wanted us to translate a vaccine document and a certificate stating that my husband had a vaccine during his medical. All 3 of these need to be sent, and he will mail us our green card!
He also wanted Alex ( my husband) to do his medical AGAIN ! ( It's been less than a year) because he was missing his influenza vaccine. I explained to him that when we did the medical the season was over and the doctor stated the medical was optional, so we opted out. We did do the other needed vaccine. The officer looked at the dates again and said okay. So we don't need another medical !
Overall, everything went smooth and we were in an out in about an hour.
Good luck to all on your AOS journeys !

Olichka reacted to Amadia in AOS interview soon - husband doesn't speak english well
I don't believe it is prohibited...just maybe frowned upon.
Contact them and confirm their recommendations as you or your mom being the interpreter can come off as biased.
Also, they ask what language the interviewee is comfortable speaking in, so there's that.

Olichka reacted to geowrian in AOS interview soon - husband doesn't speak english well
Nothing explicitly prohibits it, but it is the IO's call if there is a conflict of interest or not. They are free to refuse you as one, and my bet would be this would be more likely than not given that you have a stake in the process. Not for lack of an interpreter, but the chance for mistaken responses is probably greater. Same as #1. -
Olichka reacted to Crazy Cat in AOS interview soon - husband doesn't speak english well
1. I suspect that USCIS will not allow you to interpret. You are biased.
2. There is always the possibility of a misunderstood question. The wrong answer could affect the outcome.
3. Same as #1 above.
I would contact the local office and ask.

Olichka reacted to Ben&Zian in AOS interview soon - husband doesn't speak english well
Call ahead and ask about it with the USCIS office. Letting you, or your mother be an interpreter would seem to be unwise to USCIS as you could literally take anything your spouse says and change it to what USCIS wants to hear. Kind of biased and all dont you think? Conflict of interest. Make sense?

Olichka reacted to Ash.1101 in AOS interview soon - husband doesn't speak english well
I would imagine you would have to get someone that isn’t related to y’all. For all the USCIS officer knows, you’re telling your husband what to say or saying he’s answering something that he isn’t.
