I have been following this chain for sometime now.
 
I had my N400 / I751 interview today at the Chicago Office and would like to share my experience.
 
I showed up to my 9am interview 5 mins before ( Cutting it close i know lol), any way i signed in and saw a ton of people waiting. I found out that some folks were waiting for their Oath Ceremony to begin and the others we there for their interview. Anyway i was still expecting a decent wait time, but got called within 5 mins of sitting down.
 
Now, my wife was not with me at the time as she is in school and is not allowed to miss classes, being that it was the N400 interview and it never asked for her to be present. I told my wife to come after she got out of class at 10am, so i was actually banking on having a long wait time so she could show up. As i mentioned i got called within 5 mins of sitting down by the interviewing officer, and would you know the first thing she said to me was
"I noticed you did not come with your spouse" of which i responded she is on her way. The officer followed with, "Okay, we will try to get through the pending I-751 as much as possible without her. I said Okay, and explained that she is in school and is not allowed to miss classes.
 
I751 Interview
 
We walked in her office and she asked to me to remain standing as she placed me under oath. From their she pulled out an extensive detailed file of all my filings, and God knows what other info she had on her screen but she had tons of info. She spent some time going through my file and it looked like she was getting familiar with what was already submitted and not submitted. Anyway she then asked if i had my most recent Tax forms, and additional proof to show a bonafide marriage. I gave her all my tax documents dating back 4 or 5 years, and the original marriage certificate, as well as info showing my wife on my insurance plan, and a car insurance card with both or names on it. She took all of that and then asked for all my passports issued, as well as my green card. From their she started flipping through my file again and it seems she was looking at pics we submitted when we applied for the ROC, she then asked if we still had our dog and i said yes we do.
 
Then she started fact checking all that was inputted in the application, asking me my name, DOB, Address, Phone # etc. Then she asked me my wife's DOB, and if she currently resides with me.
 
The we moved on to the N400 Application.
 
We jumped right into the Civics test. (Sorry i do not remember the questions) I got the first 6 right and we moved on to the Reading and Written piece which i also passed. We verified that my info submitted was correct and she asked me a long list of the Yes or No questions on the application, Goes without saying that the majority of the time spent was me saying No to questions like "Have you ever supported a communist party" etc.
 
Then she asked me if i had traveled out the country the last 5 years, i said yes and listed all the places. Then she asked if i stayed 6 months outside of the US at anytime since my residency i said no
 
From their she had me sign some papers and docs on an Ipad, and told me she was approving my I751 and Recommending my N400 for approval. So i then asked her does she still need to see my wife. She replied: "No, you provided enough info" Then i asked if i could text my wife to not come anymore, she said it was okay. Then she told me that i should receive a letter in the mail advising me on my oath ceremony date in 6 weeks or less.
 
The interview took around 30 -35mins, i was expecting it to be longer. However i had a great experience with the officer, i walked out on cloud nine as i was terrified i wouldn't be approved without my wife being present.

This wait is still doable compare to 150-Year Wait for Indian Immigrants With Advanced Degrees to get their green card. 
150 years of wait!!!!! i751 applicants are lucky with max 2 years and the possibility to apply for citizenship in the meantime.

I filed N-400 in January because I got tired of waiting for the I-751.  It had been pending since November 2016.  I didn't hear anything about it until the February glitch about it being transferred to the local office and an actual transfer in May because I did get a notice in the mail after the online status changed to "new office has jurisdiction".  It all went quiet so sometime in June I used the online portal to inquire about the status of my I-751 application.  Didn't hear anything until last week of July and it was an email saying that they noticed I'd applied for the N-400 in January so both N-400 and I-751 would be adjudicated together.  Literally a week later, my interview was scheduled.  I just took my oath last week.

Here is a summary of my interview I had at the Santa Ana, CA field office on 9/21. It was a very busy day, I had to wait more than an hour past my appointment time to be called in.
During the interview, my frequent and long absences from the country was a concern for the IO. He asked about the nature of my travels. He printed out all my travel history from a system he accessed and checked against all my dates of travel as filled in by me on my application form.
 
Questions:
 
Where is the Statue of Liberty?
Governor of California
Speaker of the House
What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?
What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?
What is the highest court in the United States?
 
He asked me to read:
"Who lives in the White House"
and asked me to write:
"The President lives in the White House"
 
He fixed one question that I had accidentally left unanswered on my N400 form.
He had me sign the oath and corrections on the ipad and said he'd recommend me for citizenship.
 
He congratulated me but indicated that his supervisor would need to approve as well and that I might be scheduled for the ceremony on 10/23 or 11/14 depending on the supervisor approval and the availability of space in the 10/23 ceremony.
 
The same night my status changed to "You attended your interview". I was kind of concerned as I was expecting "your case is approved" or something like that.
I called the USCIS contact center after waiting for a few days without any updates. They told me there is nothing wrong and that is the normal procedure.
 
After 2 weeks of no activity, I signed up for an infopass appointment. The  infopass officer explained to me that my case was under supervisor review and that was routine. He just told me to wait for at least 90 days before getting another infopass appointment where they might be able to escalate the case. BTW, the infopass officers are really helpful sorting things out. They helped several people before me whose cases were stuck one way or another and they were able to resolve those.
 
On 10/11 (21 days after my interview)  I received the following updates in a row:
Your Case Status: Post Decision Activity  We recommended that your Form N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION, be approved. On October 11, 2018, your case was submitted for quality review. This is a standard process we use to ensure the quality of our decisions. Once our quality review is done you will be scheduled for an oath ceremony
Your Case Status: Oath Ceremony  We placed you in line for your oath ceremony and will send you a notice with the date, time, and location of your oath ceremony. You should receive your notice within 30 days of its mailing date. Please follow the instructions in the notice. 
Your Case Status: Oath Ceremony  We scheduled your oath ceremony. We sent a notice with the date, time, and location of your oath ceremony to the address you gave us. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your notice by November 10, 2018, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. 
 
I was scheduled for the ceremony on the 10/23.
 
I attended my oath ceremony yesterday at Los Angeles Convention center with 3,500 other fellow applicants (now citizens) from 116 different countries. The top 5 countries of origin by the number of participants were Mexico, China, Philippines, El Salvador, and Iran.
It was a very efficient and emotional event.
I was in the afternoon session (scheduled for 1:30 but the judge arrived at 1:15 and started the ceremony). I was out in 2 hours.  I parked in the West Hall Parking Lot but the ceremony was at the South Hall. There was a big tech conference going on at the West Hall as well. Parking cost was $20.

Finally a US Citizen! I took oath last Friday, October 19th. Yesterday, I applied for a passport, registered to vote, and finally voted in the 2018 midterm elections. Just an update. I had my citizenship interview yesterday and I passed. IO also approved my I-751 on the spot. IO reviewed my I-751 application form with me, then asked for current bills and bank statements. In the IO's words, "I'll approve this so this is one less thing you'll have to worry about". I'm almost done.

Thought I'd my experience here. 
 
- Filed ROC in July 2016 and there wasn't a single change in the case status outside of acceptance.
- One year had passed and I became eligible for N-400, so filed that in July 2017
- Got passport stamp to extend status
- Case in line for interview in August 2017 for N-400
- May 2018, got notification on my ROC that the case was moved to a different office for processing
- June 2018, got an interview scheduled notice for my N-400 for July 25th.
- Did a case inquiry for my ROC in January of 2018 and got a letter 7 months later on July 14, 2018 saying that they know I have a N-400 interview soon and that my ROC will likely be processed at the same time.
- July 25th, show up for interview and they call my name and the first thing they ask me is if my spouse came along
- They had interview with the spouse and myself for the ROC, then escorted my spouse out.
- They continued the N-400 interview by myself.
- Once we went through the application, finished the three tests, they said  my application was approved and that I should get an oath ceremony notice.
 

23 to 41.5 months, that's LONG! We may file my wife's N400 before getting the I-751 approved.

Hoping to provide an update that could give some hope to others. My husband's green card expired 9/30/2018. We sent our packet (really late for a few reasons) on the 27th of September to the Dallas PO Box number. We did not file for e-notification so it's been a nerve-racking month. We finally received our NOA today 10/26/2018. The date received date is 10/1/2018, so just a day shy of the deadline. Notice date is 10/19/2018, so it took a week to get to us here in Atlanta. Receipt number starts with SRC. Super grateful to be moving forward on this journey. Hubby is starting a new program and will need to provide proof of employment authorization again soon and we're travelling abroad for the holidays. 
 
I can rest easy for a bit now. Also, informed delivery is a great tool to watch the mailbox without watching the mailbox. I forgot I had it and saw it mentioned in a few previous posts. Signed in and low and behold, the scan of the letter from USCIS was there. I practically chased my husband out the door to go get the mail.

I hope so, my was delivered, check cashed the 3rd day of it's arrival and exactly a week of delivery, I got a text with the receipt number. If u did not send the package in earlier of course the check will be cash, however if u send it earlier to your 90 days window, u should expect the entire package sent back to you. It happens to me, it too them 2 weeks to send my package back with a NOA of rejection for filing early. I hope yours is not in such instance. Good luck
