  1. Pat Burns was a great coach. Although he looked very stern behind the bench actually he wasn't. I had a nice conversation with him many years ago in MTL, very down to earth guy.

He had a tough battle the past few years.

    Rest In Peace Pat (F)

  2. Not sure if this will help you but here goes.

I left / quit my job on Feb 12. 2006. I flew to Spokane on Feb. 23 and stayed here till

May while our K-1 was processing. We had hoped that our interview date would have been before May but it wasn't so I went back to Canada. Anyhow had the interview in June and POE was the 26 of June.

I had no intention of filing for EI as I was sure my leaving work in Feb. and not arriving here till June would make me ineligible. I posed a question as you have and got some input, some said I wouldn't get it and it was Flames9 who suggested to me "You have nothing to lose by applying all they can say is no"

So I applied expecting nothIng and I received 24 weeks of EI. I had to explain the reason for my being unemployed from Feb.to my POE in June.

In the letter I wrote them I explained that during that period I was here doing paperwork, awaiting an interview from MTL and arranging for our marriage.

Also told them my unemployed time spent in Canada was spent on selling my home and tying up lose ends

Make sure they write on your ROE reason for leaving: Relocating for Marriage.

Hope this helps you and that you obtain your EI. Good luck

Sorry should be Feb. 2007 not 2006

  4. Here's how it goes in the State of WA:

How to get a Washington State driver license

If you have a valid driver license from another state

    Visit a driver licensing office.

    Bring with you:

Proof of identity, including your out-of-state license.

Cash or check to pay the $45 fee for your first Washington driver license ($20 for your application and $25 for your license).

Your Social Security number, which is mandatory to help enforce child support laws. You don't need to show us your Social Security card. We’ll verify your Social Security number, but it won’t appear on your license.

    Complete a driver license application.

Pass a vision screening and demonstration of color recognition.

After completing the steps above, you won’t need to take a knowledge test or a driving test unless you have a medical or physical condition that indicates testing is required.

Turn in your out-of-state driver license or ID card so we can invalidate it.

If you have an expired driver license from another state

You must pass the knowledge test and driving test in addition to completing all the steps above.

If you have valid license from another country

Germany and British Columbia are the only locations that have reciprocity agreements with Washington State.

If you have a valid German or British Columbia driver license, you may get a Washington State driver license by following the steps above for new residents with a valid license from another state.

If you have moved to Washington State from a country other than Germany or a Canadian province other than British Columbia, you must complete all the steps to getting your first license.

If you are visiting Washington State from another country, you may use your out-of-country driver license for up to 1 year

I had to do the complete routine written, visual, and driving to get my DL

  5. I have been told by friends who have gone through the process to avoid mentioning the application pending thing, as they will grill you about coming back. Is it a good idea to avoid the question (not really lying) by calling your fiance your boyfriend, or is it best to put it all out there? It scares me being totally willing to give up information because I fear that I would get the least intelligent border agent who has no idea what a K-1 is... Any advice on this?

FIY, we just started the K-1 process, sent I-129f in Sept, NOA1 received.

I entered the U.S numerous times while my K-1 was being processed. I brought along lots of ties to Canada evidence along with my K-1 paperwork and never had a problem. One of my visits was a 3 month stay.

It's better to truthful than to become trapped in a question, because then that small hole you dug trying to avoid has turned into a crater with the Border Officer.

  6. A definite when is Montreal is Schwartz's Deli on St. Laurent Blvd.

They make the very best smoked meat sandwich

A couple other interesting spots to see in MTL are:

Also if you're a hockey fan the tour of the Bell Centre is interesting

as is a walk through Old Montreal and China Town

    Good luck on your interview

  7. I have 5 kids ( all grown and on thier own now) and never regretted it for a moment. Yes there's a lot to raising children and sometimes the road can be rough( teenage yrs lol, lol)

but in the end it was all worth having.

Without having kids you're going to miss out on Grand kids and they're a lot more fun.

  8. I'd be happy to move a couple of threads from the AOS forum into the Canada forum if you would like

Sure move some of in here. Always inteteresting to read on the journey of fellow Canucks.

  9. Word... them and the freaking yanks.

They have a 100+ year drought... what the hell do you expect when you name your team after a baby bear? :P

My "killers B's" won the Stanley Cup in 1972 only 38 yrs. without winning it. Go Bruins Go

  10. I paid the extra money and booked at "L’Appartement" for two nights it cost me $315 total.

On the map it's like two blocks away from the consulate, three stars, and VERY positive reviews.

    Let's hope it's worth it.

L'Appartements on Sherbrooke is a very nice place. I stayed there many times over the years Very clean, friendly staff, within walking distance to St. Catherines St. and also not far from Schartz on St. Laurent Blvd.

There's a small convenience store just around the corner on the side street next to the hotel (about 300 ft up the street on the left)

  11. Hi all, just a quick question. We're moving in June, still staying in WA. State. Am I required to inform USCIS of my move?

  12. lol!!

Wow, great game and yes the habs deserved to win!! Guess Price (habs backup goalie) can packhis bags out of town!! Congrats Habs fans!!

You're right everbody was amazed when Bob Gainey took Carey Price with his first pick a few yrs. back.

They did play very good and had OV's number he's not so nifty with the puck in crowded ice and someone in his lane all the time. WA. power play sucked for a team that had the best power play in the NHL this season they sure didn't show it

I hope my killer B's get to meet MTL but Sid The Kid and company will play totally different than WA. with more speed in the break out

  13. I had my medical in Jan of 2007. All I needed was the packet 3 info letter and the case # beginning with MTL from my packet 3

At that time I called the panel DR. and was told that's all they required to do the medical for me.

He coied down the MTL on my medical review forms

  14. When I entered I applied for Advance Parole Document I think it was I-131 just in case I needed to go back to Canada in an emergencey

Without AP unless the rules have changed I don't think one can leave the US for 2 yrs while thier AOS is taking place.

  15. ....Bruins beat the Sabres today....:(

Oh well..We'll see what happens next...Anything can happen in the playoffs...;)

    Btw..What is a 'bruin' anyways?

    Lol..A sabre is a sword, a habitant is a farmer, a canuck is a Canadian.....

Really, where do teams get their names? ....I always wondered about that...hmmm......

    Ant

    WordNet

    The noun has 2 meanings:

Meaning #1: a conventional name for a bear used in tales following usage in the old epic"Reynard the Fox"

Meaning #2: large ferocious bear of Eurasia

    Synonyms: brown bear, Ursus arctos

  16. Got to have a 2010 NHL play off topic in the Cdn forum, lol Lot of good hockey thus far, and I really don't think that many upsets, as in the playoffs anything can happen. Yes I don't even consider Mtl over the Caps in game 1 an upset, NOR would I be surprised if Mtl won the series. Some are surprised that San Jose lost the 1st game, but San Jose has never been a good play off team, but they did battle back to win the 2nd game in OT!

What has surprised me is the # of my patients that have been watching hockey at the hospital, lol I keep telling them, you want increased attention, just have the hockey game on the tele, lol

What would any Canadian forum be without having a hockey topic in there. some of the games have been a lot closer than I figured they would be.

I thought for sure the Caps in 4 but they've really only played 1 good period in the whole series that being the 3rd in to-days game.

I do think OV is back in form now and the next 3 games will be the Caps.

Very happy to see my Bruins tie it up to-day hoping they can get 3 more wins and move on.

The series surprising me the most is the Red Wings/ Coyotes Thought for sure Det. would walk easily through this one.

Just goes to show the playoffs are a whole new season and anything can happen.
