So, with the available funds, do you think that re-applying and changing the length of stay to 1 month would be the best solution, or is there a possibility that there's more going on in the decision?
$5,000 for 4 months is $40 a day.
Give or take.
$20 each.

I've got a general B2 question that I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight on.
My wife and I are expecting our first child, due at the end of September and we invited her parents, who are Indonesian and haven't ever visited here before, to come and stay with us for a couple of months before and after the birth (3-4 total). Neither we, nor they, have any desire to remain in the US, they have a son who is about to graduate from college and he's got a serious girlfriend and they'll probably get engaged next year.
Their interview was on Tuesday morning, and at the end of the short interview they were given a pink card, indicating that they were denied. I haven't gotten a copy of it yet, but her father said that the reason listed was, "Economy," which I think means lack of evidence that they can support themselves.
I'm just hoping someone can give me an idea of what needs to change in our evidence before we re-apply.
The evidence we compiled was:
Purpose of Visit: Invitation letter from us stating that they could stay with us and we'd pay for the plane ticket and all expenses.
Reason to Return Home: (1) Deeds to multiple properties, a farm and several rental houses. (2) Birth Certificate of their son, who is staying behind. (3) Graduation Notice for said son, who is graduating from college in December. (4) Letter from father's employer, stating that he wants him back when he returns to Indonesia.
Means to Support themselves whilst in the US: Bank statement showing $5k in savings.

Just got a text from USCIS to check case status, says card production ordered. This = Approved, right?

Not exactly, a lot of people send their package overnight so USCIS receives their package pretty much the next day and does initial processing on it, in which they verify required content and then send back NOA. The date on the NOA is usually the next day but applicants receive the letter 1-2 weeks later but we don't request that info from them, only the date on the letter....
Oh, okay. So using this info as a guideline for when we'll actually receive the letter back is not a good idea
Just trying to figure out when I should stop being disappointed and start being worried when opening the mailbox.
-
Am I reading this right, is it only taking some people 1 day to get their NOA1?

Some people do get requested to go for a second (sometimes a third) biometrics as the first one didn't print clearly, so there is some risk with being out of the country during a pending application with USCIS.
While this didn't happen to us, I can see where it could have. The lady tried 5 times before she got good prints from Kanti. Her fingers are just about smooth
-
At a minimum, she should wait until she has her biometrics done
Not the answer she was wanting, but thanks nonetheless
She's getting homesick and has been freaking out lately about not getting to go home soon enough. Still better to wait than to not be able to come back.
-
What paperwork did you send in?
According to your timeline - you haven't sent in the AOS paperwork.
Sorry, didn't update my timeline very well. Her conditional permanent residency is about to expire on Feb 23. I'm preparing to send in her I-751 this week, but she was planning to leave for home at the end of Feb for a month or two.
Is this feasible, or should we wait for a certain milestone?
-
Quick question:
My wife (the non-US citizen) is planning to leave for her home after we get the acknowledgement letter for her paperwork. She's got an academic project at home that will keep her there for about a month but might extent to two months.
My question is how likely is it that she'll need to be here during that time frame for her biometric appointment?
Thanks,
Sean

Went to the site today and the new version of the form and instructions are up. Looks like it was changed to include accomodation requests for disabled applicants and/or spouses.
-
If that's the case, then is my only recourse to have her go through the exam here?
Some posts suggested calling my state representative and having them tell USCIS to look again, but my rep (Julia Carson) just passed.
-
I just have a quick question. From reading the forum, I saw that for my wife (K-1 visa holder) we should only have had to submit a 693A. We did this, and I just got an RFE for a 693.
Is this correct? Should I have her go through the medical check again? Or should I just resend the 693A that we sent originally?
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean!
Thanks!
And as what William33 said, your relationship looks pretty straight forward! And the fact that you have met twice in within 2 years is even better.
The evidences you listed, were more than enough!! Haha.....my fiance submitted way LESS that those and we still got approved. And at the interview, the consular officer did not ask me to show more proofs! William did not lie when he said the interview is going to be easy at the Embassy in Jakarta. I was questioned a lot more than William's wifey but really, the interviewer was friendly
Basically she just wanted to make sure that I really knew my fiance well.
Good luck, guy!!
-Detty-
And I can't believe I am still being congratulated!!!! Hahaha.... thanks guys, you're all just too sweet!!
Good luck to all of you.
Thanks for the support, it's very appreciated. BTW, I see Detroit is your POE, so does that mean you got your tickets? Did you end up going through a travel agent, or buy them directly from the airline? Last time I flew there I used a travel agent here in the States, and I flew for about $950 after taxes, but I've heard that most ticket purchases outside the US are actually cheaper, so I'm advising Kanti to find a local travel agent, who should be able to help.
Salamat Jalan

First, congratulations on your approval
I do have some questions concerning your interview. My fiancee is having her interview next week, and I'm concerned about some specific details, mostly on establishing our relationship via evidence.
We met in an online course, and we emailed each other for several months before deciding to become a couple. Five months after we first met, I flew to Jakarta to visit her. I stayed for two weeks, met her family, toured the city, and so on. Our relationship blossomed, and in March of 2006, I flew out again to celebrate our anniversary, her graduation from UNJ, and to propose
I stayed for another two weeks.
Aside from those meetings, our relationship has been entirely conducted over the internet, and so we don't have a lot of "solid" documents that establish our relationship.
For evidence we've got emails going back and forth, ranging from the day we met to about two weeks ago, emails between her and my family, skype call logs for the last year and a half, my airline ticket purchases, photos of us with each other and me with her family, and we're trying to find a class roster that shows our enrollment in the class.
All in all, we can show emails going back and forth for the last two years and three months, massive amounts of phone calls, and we can provide two big photo albums if we need
Does this sound appropriate? What kind of evidence did they ask you for?
Terima Kasih,
Sean

That is excellent. Thank you very much.

If you need the Panel physican list and sworn translator list, let me know.

We just got approved last week, so now I'm scrambling to gather up all the info I need for the next few steps. I know there is a general list of what to bring to the interview, but I was hoping someone might have some practical experience of what people at the Jakarta embassy might ask for during the interview. Any info would be great.

Sean,
One place would be Ratu Plaza, accross from Carrefour on Sudirman. However, you can get really good deals in Glodok, which is in Chinatown. You may want to get your Fiance to negotiate the prices without you there, unless your Bahasa is really good. Otherwise you might get the "harga bule" (foreigner price), which is a heck of alot more.
I'll pass the info on to her. I just got her set up with broadband at home, so I'm looking for some cheap webcams. But, I also need to work some mojo on her system, which will necessitate parts being sent from here. It's not the availability of the parts over there, it's just the expertise required to get everything tweaked the right way.
My Bahasa is poor, and I know what you mean about the harga bule. I normally do okay with haggling though, I'll dance around the pricing for awhile, set a ridiculously low price, and then walk away. Works more than half the time
Right now though, I'm state-side, so she'll be bargaining anyway.
Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely pass it on.

I've already got a bank account set up for her there, so sending money isn't the issue. Unfortunately, this is something that I'm going to have to buy here, because I've got to do the configuration on it before hand. Out of curiosity, does anyone know what they tax? Is it based on the declared value, or something else?
btw, William33, do you have any suggestions on where to look for electronics in Jakarta?
thanks,
Sean
-
I'm trying to send an external hard drive and set of cd's to my fiancee, and I'm worried about the taxes levied by (I'm assuming) the Indonesian government. I sent her an mp3 player last year for her birthday, and the taxes ended up being $50.
I've always used FedEx as the carrier, and they require you to fill out a form with the approximate value of the item. However, when I had Kanti ask at the local FedEx carrier, they said that the tax charged isn't based on the value, but the type of product. For example, I was planning on sending her an old laptop, which is worth maybe $200 on the market, yet they wanted to charge $200 in tax.
Does anyone know if this is correct, and, if so, what the cheapest way to send her presents will be?
Thanks,
Sean

I'm in Indianapolis, West Sider. Happy Holidays.

I sent my application in 10-11-06
Received 1st NOA on 10-16.
I know there are likely hundreds of people ahead of me, but I hope to hear something very soon.

I overnighted my 129F to the NSC, but when I got the 1st NOA the next week, the bottom of the form had an address for the CSC. When I check processing times, Nebraska doesn't have the 129F listed. Would the case have been forwarded to Cali?

According to her parents, no. The interviewer apparently asked where they were going (Indianapolis), why they were going (see first grandchild), are they coming back to Indonesia (3x in a row). Then, at some point later they got a pink slip. I still haven't gotten a copy of the slip yet, but her father mentioned that it said "Economy" as the reason.
