Just an update on my N-400 application. Today I received a notice by mail from USCIS to inform me that my naturalization interview was scheduled on August 1st. at the USCIS office downtown.

 

I am a late September paper filer and was put in line for an interview on 11/28/2017. So a total of about 7 months between I got placed in line for an interview and the elusive email from them confirming that I am finally scheduled for the interview.

 

I will keep you guys updated and good luck to all my fellow applicants.

Hello all! 

Just popping in to give everyone an update. I had an interview yesterday at 10:45 am. I was there 20 minutes before scheduled interview but I had to wait in line to check in for at least 40 minutes. By the time I got up there at the counter, it was 11:05. The lady asked me why I just got here, assuming I arrived late for the interview. I “kindly” told her I’ve been waiting in this for at least 40 minutes. I don’t know what was going on but there were so many people waiting, I’d say at least 20 in front of me. 

Apart from the the hiccup at the beginning, everything else went smoothly. I finally got called back around 11:45 and I was out about 45 minutes later. The officer did ask for a 2017 tax return which it’s the only thing I forgot to bring. Luckily, I had the transcript with me so it was okay. 

So here’s the exciting part. About an hour after interview, at around 12:45 I got a text saying I have an update on my account. I checked my status and it said I was placed in line for oath. This morning I woke up with another text saying there’s an update. Lo and behold, it now said your oath letter was mailed! I asked the office after the interview if there was any way I would make the 4th of July one next week since I’m switching job and don’t want any trouble getting hired. He said probably not because they’re giving priority to military members and veterans especially on 4th of July. So he said I’d probably make July 20. Now that things are moving so fast, one can hope that it’ll be next week which will be awesome. If not, I’ll be happy with the July 20 since it’ll be in my town and I don’t have to travel for it. 

So I’m here to let you guys know that things are moving right along for Chicago office. Yay! And to be there early (although they told you no more than 30 minutes early) or else you could get chastised by the check-in lady for being late even though you were in line waiting to check in the whole time. Also, don’t worry if they skip around the number. They don’t actually called people in numerical order. I was P31 and P37 was called way before me even though I was there first. So who knows. Good luck to all! I’ll update my oath date once I get my letter.

This is great! I hope they do the same for me. I saw that in my city they have the ceremony on July 4. I’m hoping they can squeeze me in then. There’s hope!

After the ceremony as you receive your certificate you are able to take a picture with the person that gives them out (at least we could during my oath)

Otherwise I would consider that as an option. My estimated time - shows ridiculous 15 months right now for N400 , I know that people say , that after Biometrics it may drop to 11. I wonder if that's the case.

The estimated completion time is wonky in my opinion and from reading others' experiences. Mine started off with 12 months (Jan-Jan) but after biometrics, it went to March 2018 which is 15 months. I still have 10 months left on mine. However, it "only" took me around 127 days to get an interview. I really can't complain. Lol 

 I'm not familiar with I-751 combo so I'm not sure if your timeline will be similar to mine or not. Regardless, good luck and hang in there!

Sure will! I did a walk in for my biometrics. I don't think it sped anything up but it's worth a try.

I filed online in January of this year (1/15/18) and I just got a text saying my interview is scheduled! I think it's moving for some of us! No interview date yet but I'm sure it'll be show up tomorrow or next day.

We're on the similar timeline and from the most busiest districts in the country (you Dallas and I, Chicago). When I went to for an infopass appointment in April, they told me my case hasn't even been moved to Chicago yet. This morning, I got yet another text and email saying my case is still being reviewed. Then, lo and behold, I woke up from my afternoon nap to another text message and email saying my interview is scheduled just now! I don't think yours is very far away. Good luck!

What would be nicer is if I got my interview scheduled before the appointment, then I could just cancel it.

I'm in a similar boat. I've also booked  an Infopass appointment in Chicago for early April. I want/need to switch my job, and I can't do that without having a valid green card. I'm going to ask for an expedite on my N400 and shamelessly ask for the stamp on my passport as well. It's a 50/50 chance so it wouldn't hurt to take. Good luck to you, Hypnos!

I am not a combo filer. I only have N400 pending.

Wanted to know what was the cell phone policy on the pdx office. I know the receipt notice says not allowed but I would need to take it to call a cab later. Do they have some sort of lockbox over there where they can hold/store the devices.

I didn’t do mine at the same office as yours but I took mine with me. The lady at the front desk will ask you if you have a cell phone with you. If you do, you need to have it powered off completely. You shouldn’t have a problem bringing your cell phone.

I just got an emailed from them saying there’s an update on my case. I thought I’d see the submission date but mine has nothing like that. The update was for the case complete time from Jan 2019 to Dec 2018. 

Updating my walked in bio today. Couldn’t make it bold blue though.

Fprints:  Date assigned for fingerprinting (Bio-metrics). If you do your biometrics via walk-in prior to your scheduled appointment, please enter the date in bold blue.
In Line: Date you received e-notification about the start of your interview scheduling.
Int Ltr: Date you received the official letter in the mail regarding interview.
Interview: Date of your interview.
Oath: Date Oath taken.

Field Office: Your local USCIS office where you will have the N-400 interview.

From what I’ve seen, I think people just walked in. I don’t see anyone have a particular time they walked in but I could be wrong. I walked in just now at 11:35 and was in and out in 10 minutes. No questions asked.

To be honest, isn’t that what most people are hoping for anyway? To speed the process up per say by walking in. One or two weeks may not be much for you but for someone whose GC is expiring and is traveling soon, one week or two weeks sooner really makes the difference.

Planning on it anyway.   I was just curious about the workers’ reactions towards people who walked in.
