  1. I am now getting the same page when I log in to my PayPal and Citibank accounts - I think it is some kind of virus. I tried emptying my cache and cookies, ran Ad-Aware, no luck, it's still there. It soesn't come up when I log in from my work PC. I think I need to update my Norton software and that will hopefully get rid of this - it's driving me crazy, hope nobody has actually fallen for it - the Citibank page actually asked for the high school that I graduated from!!!

more than likely a page hijacker. norton may or may not catch it.

If it is, then how do you get rid of them?? :(

  3. Sheesh, I haven't needed BC in ages and am deciding what to do since it will be an issue in 3 months... ;)

I'm with you. I just read through the entire thread and am trying to decide. I'm 41 and have NEVER been on ANY bc. All the talk of the side effects and hormons... yikes. My sister has been on depo for years but they keep telling her about it sucking the calcium out of her bones, and she should stop. And I have heard the pills aren't good after certain age...? Well guess I have a long session at PP coming up in my future... I-129F, NVC, Embassy packets, interview, plane, getting furniture for the house, AOS, EAD, and now this to worry about. Sheesh.

I tried calling PP and couldn't get through, gave up after over an hour on hold... :(

Will try to get an appt with an HMO gyn, was hoping I could get it taken care of before March 15 since I still have some money left in my '06 flex spending account and that is the last day to use it... guess I should use it to buy a supply of condoms and foam just in case, if they're covered... :(

I think most of the issues of being on the pill over 35 are if you smoke, don't know if it's such a problem if you are a non-smoker. You're right, so many things to think about, it drives me crazy sometimes... :o K will be coming here in October, assuming he gets his visa right after the interview and there are no major stumbling blocks. This will give me 3 months after I come back from Nepal to get an apartment, so I'm not worrying about it until then, just focusing on putting the finishing touches on my K-1 petition for right now and getting ready for our reunion :luv:

  4. In NYC my favorite is Lombardi's on Spring St. - the best pizza comes from a wood-burning oven.

Lately I have been craving the yak cheese pizza I ate in Kathmandu - wish I could remember the place where I had the best, on the road to Pharping I think - definitely will be going back there shortly.

I have told my Nepali friend here who works for a pizza place he should do a Nepali special pizza - yak cheese and gundruk (dried, fermented greens, sometimes marinated in spices) - i actually think it would be good. :)

  5. I just bought a ticket to fly to Nepal and I was surprised it was an e-ticket - the last 2 times I was there as well as when I flew to China in '05 it was with paper tickets. I have sent things to Nepal by GEM and it has taken about a week to get there(and my guy has a PO Box so that's not counting street delivery time) - don't know about Moldova. It is easy to check fees and delivery times by going to usps.com.

  6. Your timing sounds good since it takes so little time after submitting packet 3 to get an interview - sounds like a plan :)

Sounds like a plan... hopefully the Consulate will do as expected. I wish we had more to go on than just two cases, over a year apart. Please don't hold it against me if it doesn't go as planned! :(

I still haven't been to Pokhara either!! :crying: And I don't think we'll get there on the next trip. We're thinking July... brief trip to Langtang/Gosainkund, returning by way of their village to visit family... about 2 weeks total.

Yeah, I think you'll be OK in May... things should really be dropping off by then. Which airline do you usually take? Send a prayer to Ganesh and ask him to talk to his buddies at the IRS! ;)

    Maya

Don't know if you saw my thread on the subject, but I bought my ticket - I'll be back with mero maya on May 17th!!!!:dance: Watch for earthquakes and avalanches, lol...

Ganesh and Tara work fast  , got my refund yesterday and no problems getting the dates I wanted and a good fare... The first time I went to Kat I took Singapore, which doesn't fly there anymore... The second time(last summer) I took Gulf Air, which has a good connection from JFK through Heathrow and Muscat - total traveling time 20 hours. This time I am flying with Thai Air, have heard good things about them and I will be spending 5 days in Bangkok on the way back - unfortunately alone since K needs to go to India at that time  , but I am excited since I have never been there, maybe it will make the separation easier... :(

  7. Well, my tax refund was deposited to my account yesterday morning, by noon I was on the phone with Tashi the travel agent.... It's amazing, I got just the travel dates I wanted and the fare was actually less than my refund even though I am staying for 5 days in Bangkok on the way back to the US, usually booking a flight to Nepal is much more complicated as some airlines fly there only once a week.

So, (cue Bob Seger), I think I'm going to Kathmandu!!!!

    :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

On May 17th at 12:45PM I will be back with my Maya!!!! Woohoo!!!! :dancing::dancing::dancing:

  8. Did they raise the fee to $50? I went there in '05 and it was $40. Yes, she should get the single-entry visa which is good for 3 months. If I'm not mistaken she needs a separate entry permit to go to Tibet which can be handled by the Embassy as well. I went with a group and this was handled by our group leader - not sure how it works for individuals. If she can get to NYC I have heard that the Embassy will process the visa while you wait - not sure if this is possible elsewhere.

  9. A warning to everyone who uses eBay, please read!!!

I tried to pay for an item which I had won and went to eBay through the winning bidder notification email. After logging in as usual, a page came up with the heading 'Attention!'. It said because of recent fraud incidents they were asking for additional information to make the system more secure(can't remember exact wording) - the page looked exactly like an eBay page and had a secure URL beginning with https: so I didn't think it was anything odd. It asked for the usual - name, SSN, DOB, etc. but then it asked for things like my bank acct. #, routing # and PIN #!!! The last made me very suspicious so I didn't send any info. I then tried to log in directly from ebay.com and got the same page. It did not appear on my work computer when I logged in. WARNING - if you see this page do not give any information - eBay says if it is not a message sent by eBay to your 'my messages' box then it is not an official eBay message.

  10. There should not be any problem getting photos made from digital, and fast, in Kathmandu.

We used a couple of places right in Thamel. One of them is a modern-looking (compared to everything else in Kathmandu) camera shop on ground floor facing the Tridevi Marg, approximately across the street from the building where Fire & Ice Pizza is, and that little brick ATM shrine... lol. I remember it being green and white with lots of glass. I think it's the same building (or a close neighbor) as the one where KEEP used to be and probably NorthFace still is on an upper floor.

We had tons of pictures from the village of friends and family (from our visit after we got the visas) and wanted to send a set back to the village with his brother before we left... I think they turned the whole thing around in an afternoon for us, prints and cd's both, and at a fairly reasonable price. But you can just ask around, especially at the hotels or maybe Pilgrim's Books... I am sure there are LOTS of shops like it that are catering to the tourists and will work fast to earn your rupees.

I don't think they'll want the photos and other evidence of relationship until the interview, but considering the limited information available about how the Consulate in Ktm works, the interview could be very soon after he delivers packet 3. I guess if I were you, I'd spend at least a couple of days when you arrive visiting your favorite old haunts and any friends and/or family that are around, take a few more pics together, get them developed, and then submit packet 3. You could even go with him to the Consulate to drop it off, if you are planning to be with him at the interview anyway.

    Getting excited for you! :D

    Maya

    Hey Maya Didi...

I know exactly where that place is, I think that was the ATM that ate my card the last time I was there, luckily I was able to phone someone to get it out of the machine... I remember another photo place near Pilgrims as well(I love that place as well as the Barnes & Noble Book House nearby so know the area very well... ;) ). Ok, so I'll bring my digital camera only - my mom gave me a 2GB memory stick so hope that will last for 6 weeks... :) Want to get lots of photos especially seeing as this is our 'pre-honeymoon' - K has lots of places he wants to take me that I didn't get to visit before, like Pokhara, amazing I was never there before...

Your timing sounds good since it takes so little time after submitting packet 3 to get an interview - sounds like a plan :) I can't wait - just wish I would get my !@# tax refund so I could go ahead and buy my ticket already... I read on another board(YetiZone) that this year's trekking season is expected to be much more heavily booked than last year's since the political situation has cooled down pretty much, so since I am traveling at the tail end of it I hope I won't have trouble getting a cheap ticket... I'm getting excited too, can't wait to see my Tiger again... (L)

  11. Hi Deathbydalbhat and Everyone Else,

Good luck on your immigration journey. You're welcome about the New York State marriage information. For more information about getting married in New York State, check out the following link:

    http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/married.htm

    Hope this helps too.

    Ant

This is good news for us - we will be getting married here in NY and I was wondering about that.

Thanks for the link - I've bookmarked it for when the time comes. :)

  12. I only have 4 photos total of us together, all of which I am submitting with the K-1 petition... :( I hope this won't be a problem. K loved my digital camera so much that he was carrying and using it most of the time, as a result there aren't too many photos of him, especially with me... I will hopefully be arriving in KTM on May 18th and hope we can get lots more taken and developed before the interview(will bring disposable cameras since getting prints from digital in time might be a problem over there), but by then it might be too late? Do they get submitted with packet 3 or does he bring them to the interview? I have tons of other evidence for us meeting and continuing our relationship, emails, IMs, Western Union records, FedEx forms, etc. I will be buying my ticket soon so can also make a copy of my itinerary, ticket., etc.

  13. Hi Nicole,

Good luck on your own immigration journey! In answer to your question, from my own experience, you don't need a SS# in order to get married in New York State. I got my SS# after I got married, and got my Green Card. All you need is other government-issued identification (even if it is foreign. For example, a passport, driver's license, birth certificate, etc.), in order to get married here in New York State.

    Ant

I was just reading about getting a marriage license in Arkansas and having your social security number was a must. Is this just this state or do all places require this? I would think not since there are probably tons of people from other countries getting married in the USA. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions about what to do? I know we could just wait to go get it, but we were wanting to get married right away.. thanks for any help!

This is good news for us - we will be getting married here in NY and I was wondering about that.

  14. Nothing wrong with a little (or a lot of) bhang.

The Bhang in Nepal is the best *cough* so I've heard *cough* - It's the Datura mixed with it that scares me... :o

There are some nice Bhang Mithai recipes on the 'net - don't forget, Holi is just around the corner!!! ;)

  15. Happy Sivarathri!! :)

I loved celebrating Sivarathri in India - no Bhang Lassi however! Just singing bhajans all night long with the bright lights and cool outside air... it was so surreal, like a nice long dream. It was funny how people old and young felt comfortable just laying down on the ground when they felt tired, while others right beside them kept singing away. Ahhhh the memories... :D

Did you see the movie Short Cut to Nirvana? It's about the Maha Kumbha Mela in 2001 - I actually saw it twice in the theatre(there is a fantastic theatre in Queens with $5 matinees showing great indie/foreign films) and so wished for 'smell-o-vision' I felt like I was in India and It's exactly how you describe - the lights, the music, people just relaxing and going with the flow... Get it on Netflix - I also recommend 'Water' if you haven't seen it, nominated for Best Foreign Film Oscar...

  16. I know what you mean...

Nepali culture seems so incredibly rich to me... religions and traditions mixing, the line between the world of the gods and our world blurred, everything bathed in ritual, dance, color, sound, smell, etc... To me, our culture here in the US seems very young and unimaginative. But my guys have adjusted well, and I bet Kumar will, too. He'll have the advantage of being close to touchstones where you live.

And we will all just have to travel back to Nepal as often as possible! Such a hardship... lol. I can't wait... I hope we can swing a trip this summer when A is off from school.

*closing my eyes and seeing/hearing/smelling Kathmandu*

We'll be forever in the doorstep between the two worlds...

    Maya

*sigh* Ahh, Didi, you forgot 'tasting' - how can you forget Bhaktapur dahi or yak cheese pizza or (my current craving) chili chips? I know my guy will miss buff momos... Kasto mitho thiyo, hoina???

I think I will miss Nepal almost as much as K will - it's been less than 9 months since I was there and your post almost made me cry... There are certain smells (like kerosene or juniper, or frying donuts, or ghee lamps) and sounds(the *ding* of those big prayer wheels at Swayambhu, the Monday morning procession to Pashupatinath outside my guesthouse window) which are so evocative of Kathmandu, in my dreams I have never left... I am still careful to not rub my forehead thinking there is kumkum or chandan on it... I wear 300 rupee plastic chappals around the house every day which I bought in Boudha... :)

K and I will have to just dream, and keep Nepal in our hearts, and home, and save our money to go back as often as possible... hope you will be there in June, maybe??? We can meet in Boudha.. :)

  17. Thanks for adding the review. I read it, well done! Things sure don't sound so busy there in Nepal. Come in for interview the next day after giving packet 3?! WOW! I was impressed that your fiance had everything ready enough to get the visa the next day!

So I guess I shouldn't be sweating too much - if I send in the petition in March to VSC we should still be good for June interview??? :)

Yeah, I remember waiting for things anxiously, too. Remember, he's working on Nepali time... lol.

Hang in there... you'll be posting your interview in no time! We'll be rooting for you! :jest:

    Maya et al...

LOL, too true... I grew up with 'Hawaiian time', but come on!!! Wonder how he'll adjust to the 'New York minute'...

  18. My Tiger would probably like it, he's the only desi I've met who doesn't like food as spicy as I do... We joke I'll have to cook for him first and then add the spice to my food, or I'll go through a jar of extra-spicy mango pickle in a week... It doesn't help that I'm veg and he isn't - his mom is Bahun(Brahmin-veg) and his Dad is Chhetri(non-veg) so dad and son are used to going out to eat meat - I guess we'll deal with it when the time comes - after paying for AOS etc. we'll probably be too poor for meat anyway....

It may be technically not Indian, but I use a lot of Shriracha paste in my cooking - the chili paste in the jar with the rooster on it - gives it extra kick and most folks I have cooked for go back for seconds :)
