I'm pretty sure this has been asked but I can't find the answer. Do I have to show that I made enough money to support my wife from the last year alone or is 3 years required? Thanks.

Study the Guides for help in understanding the process and then come back with any questions. IMO, there is no need for you to mention your fiancee's age in further questions, unless you want more of the preaching and lectures you specifically asked not to hear.
There is a need for me to mention her age, how else will I get help from my questions? The main reason for my post is to get help regarding the age issue. Thanks for your help btw.

Thanks for all the responses. We actually took out a marriage license when I was 19 and she was 16. People in Guyana can get married between 14 and 18 with parental permission. Her mom signed for her. Everyone in her family approves of us. But after taking out the license, we decided to wait another year. Seeing that it's legal for us to get married, will it still be a problem with the USCIS? If we go through with the wedding, should I just wait until she's 18 to start the process or completely wait until she's 18 to get married? Thanks again.

Hi, I'm getting married soon to my girlfriend who is 17 and i'm 20. I just wanted to know if I can start the K-3 process after our marriage, or would I have to wait until she is 18? And please don't lecture me about how we're too young, i've known her for a few years now and she's my best friend and I love her. I would just like a helpful response. Thank you.

I'm 20 and I was wondering if the minimum age is 18 or 21 to file a K-3 visa. Thank you.

There's probably a website with information about Guyanan passports, have a look at that at how long processing is and what the rules are about changing the name on it.
If you're going to get married first, then petition for K3 and/or CR1, she'll probably have plenty of time to apply for a passport directly after you get married. I can't see it taking 6 months or more for a passport, but it will for the visa.
Thanks for your help.

I was thinking the same thing too. kitkat1 said that they changed the site last week, so most of the links are broken.

Congratulations!

Anyone else noticed the broken links on the USCIS website?
For example:

Me and my g/f decided we'll marry in March or April and do the K-3 instead of going the K-1 route. She doesn't have a passport yet? Should she go for her passport now or wait until we're married. We're afraid that if we wait until we're married, she won't get her passport in time for the interview. I really don't know how long the the application process for a passport is in Guyana. Does it matter that her maiden will be on the passport or does it have to be her married name? Thanks for the help.

This marriage is doomed. I think teh girl and her parents just want her to come to America. At 16 years old she has not even been to college. He wants sex, and the girl wants to come to America. Its called barter trade. Lets see how long that lasts once she gets to America and starts second guessing herself, given all she sees here. You need to wait, focus your energies on school and getting a life long trade and skill and let her mature.However strongly you feel, you will likely look back and regret years down the line because things are not always how they look like all the time.
I take offense to that. You don't know me. You don't know my feelings towards her or her feelings towards me. Why would I marry a girl from Guyana just for sex? There are millions of girls here in NY that I can have sex with? My spirit just fell for her ever since I met her at my cousin's wedding a few years back.
Anthony - ignore Matako - he's a troll and his goal is to offend you.
Thanks for the heads up.

In Anthony's defense...I know 32 year olds who aren't mature enough to make that kind of decision...I say "Good luck and go for it"...if it's legal in Guyana and NY, then there should be no major issues...just make sure you do all your research and keep coming back here for help and support!
Thanks for your support

Is a 19 year old mature enough to make a marriage decision?
I thought a 19 year old is a teenager?
Since i'm the 19 yr old, i'll answer your 1st question... yes. Maybe the majority are not mature enough, but I believe I am.

We can get married, all we need is her parents' consent and they already support us getting married. It's legal in Guyana and New York. And yes, I do have enough to support her and a co-sponsor just in case. Do they look at pay stubs or bank statements or other when determining income?

Hi, I'm new to the board and i'm glad I found this forum because you guys seem knowlegdable. I'm 19 living in New York and my g/f is 16 living in Guyana. I know we're young, but we can't stay seperated from each other and we've decided the only way to be together is to get married. We've known each other for 2 years now. It's a long story of how we met. But, my question is should I go for the K-1 visa or the K-3 visa? Should I bring her over on the fiancee visa or would that be too difficult since she's 16. Should I marry her in Guyana and file for the K-3 when I get back to New York. And should I do the process myself or get an attorney? I'm just so confused right now.

Thanks for your help. One more question. I'm reading the affidavit of support i-134 form. It says:
B. Statement of your employer on business stationery,
revealing:
1. Date and nature of employment;
2. Salary paid;
3. Whether the position is temporary or permanent.
C. If self-employed:
1. Copy of last income tax return filed; or
2. Report of commercial rating concern.
Does that mean you don't have to show your last income tax return only if you're self-employed and just have this information from your employer?
