    MAGA winner.

Not my fault.  It's COVID.  Had nothing to do with wanting our dogs and waiting until the last minute to look into it.  The definition changed.  It wasn't because I didn't want her to have the second one because they are poison.

    Joe's fault.  Yeah.

    Hi,

This post is not immigration related, but I am at wit's end on where to go.  I am not a political activist and I do not participate in any such groups or forums.

My wife just heard back from her sister in Mariupol.  They are sheltering in their basement but there has been no electricity, heat or water for two days.  Can anyone here help by sending a letter to their congressman and/or senator to request humanitarian aid be sent to Mariupol and Kharkiv?  Our friends in Kharkiv have not complained but I am sure they would need medical supplies at the very least.

I have already sent this letter, and you are free to copy it:

Indeed.  Which means LPRs are reminded that legally  they must have their green cards while:

    * bathing / showering / procreating / swimming - put your green card in a plastic water  proof pouch and wear it on a lanyard

    * sleeping. Make sure those PJs have a pocket. If not then sleep in your day clothes.

    * giving birth, undergoing surgery or medical examination: make sure those hospital gowns have a pocket. If they don’t, skip the professional medical services.

    * pat downs at the airport.  Since you aren’t allowed to have anything in your packets when going through a millimeter wave scanner, your only option is a pat down. If the TSA officer demands you remove your green card and that you set it aside, best to not fly I reckon.

Also of you have a temporary I-551 in your passport in lieu of a green card, you won’t be able to legally mail your passport off for renewal or a visa.

I withdraw my advice to buy a safe for a green card

Another reality is the lack of political will from the masses to actually reform immigration. Most Americans have zero clue about USCIS and how it actually works, so they have no idea of the problems and what to even vote for change on. How can we expect reform to make it to Capitol Hill if the vast majority of people aren't even aware of the problems?

In my experience, most Americans just assume if you're married to an American, you get US citizenship automatically like it's an overnight thing. The topic of legal immigration is hardly discussed and so few know anything about it. I vaguely remember H1B's being discussed in the news for a while but that was it. Congress is only going to care about this issue if large swaths of the population start caring about it, and how to make that happen? I don't know. Immigration law is a boring topic, it requires research and reading, I don't see it becoming a popular point of interest for most people anytime soon.

The US immigration system needs reform asap. But who's willing to go there and do the work that needs to be done? Make the laws strict and enforce them (even if it means deporting people and potentially breaking families apart) and there will be backlash. Don't, and allow illegal immigrants to have access to benefits amount other things, and there will be backlash too.

The fact that a couple pursuing a spousal visa gets stranded in different countries for almost two years whereas others decide they "can't wait" and enter the country on a nonimmigrant visa, "suddenly decide" they don't want to return home and get to legally adjust status instead, waiting for their GC with their spouses the entire time, is to me proof that the system is broken at best.

Many things we do in US are contrived or just plane controlled so by our government that we are forced into hiring a lawyer to get help (and that sometimes is fruitless)
Try settling a claim on your own to SS disability or from a car accident that u are the victim

but immigration needs Congress to really do an investigation (they have known illegal immigration is a problem now for 20 or 30 years and take no news steps to combat the problem forcing all the presidents now and former to make rules)
Congress needs to form a committee to study illegal and legal immigration
anyway ,  sorry i vetted too much

    Both statements are incorrect.

    Pope's statement on the vaccine:

    https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2021-08/pope-francis-appeal-covid-19-vaccines-act-of-love.html

Vaccines are developed from weakened or inactivated forms of the virus, to get your body to generate antibodies.  Or from mRNA, which is a new method for this virus.

Ironically, one of the hospital treatments for those who ger sick because they didn't take the vaccine, a Regeneron antibody treatment, is from stem cells from an fetus cell line.

By not getting vaccinated, a last ditch hope for those who get severe cases of covid is getting drugs made from a fetus.

I agree with this. If the waiver is denied, US citizens who don't want their partners to take the COVID vaccines should already start researching how to move to their partners' countries... and should also anticipate that COVID vaccines may soon be required to immigrate there too.

mspmn reacted to carmel34 in Cousin Marriage on CR-1... Moving to Texas
This is a legal question, for cousins the law varies by US state as others have posted.  In some states it is not only prohibited, it is a crime.  The closer the blood relationship, the more DNA the partners have in common.  There is medical research on the higher risk of genetic abnormalities for children born of first cousin parents.  From Wikipedia:  "Children of first-cousin marriages have an increased risk of autosomal recessive genetic disorders, and this risk is higher in populations that are already highly ethnically similar."  This medical risk is no doubt one of the factors considered when passing or repealing such laws.  The history of making cousin and other close relative marriages illegal goes back to ancient Rome, where they based the legality of a marriage on degrees of consanguinity.  Cousin marriage was seen as a form of incest.  So the reasons are moral and ethical, as well as legal.

I agree with you 100%. Most straight people disregard the feelings of the LGBTQ community and it’s disheartening and quite frankly awful. It is a huge concern (no matter where you get your news from)... something I have been thinking about a lot lately and trying to educate and advocate for those who need it. I pray everyday that this will not be an issue but it is still something that needs to be discussed. Your feelings are warranted. Just know that I, among many others, are here to fight for the rights of the LGBTQ community. You are never alone!!!

Once the I-90 has been accepted send an expedite request straight to the service center. I had the same problem, wrong birth date, on my 10 year GC. The whole thing was resolved in a bit over a month.

I remember that episode. Although the lady was living back in Ukraine again just using her GC as a visitors visa, trying to keep it alive, in case she decided she wanted to move back at some point. It’s season 1 ep 21 of Border Security, available on Netflix.

Delta asks this for certain countries, Ghana being one of the. Every time my mother in law goes to Accra for a visit, and we bought her a ticket we have to go to the airport and show the credit card. She is in NYC and we are in Minneapolis, but we just go to MSP and they clear something in the reservation and then she can check in. Definitely worth calling the airline in advance.

The grocery stores around here carries Wasa and also Leksands Knäckebröd which is a favorite of mine, so I’m lucky I guess ;-)

Did you know that Costco sells Arla Havarti Cheese/Hushållsost, sliced, by the big pack. It takes me about two months to get through but if you have kids I imagine it would be convenient.

For me the product I was going to miss the most was Filmjölk. Fortunately we found that there is a company, Siggi’s Dairy, that makes what they call Swedish style filmjölk - non-fat drinkable yoghurt here in the U.S. I would say that it is pretty similar to the mellanfil back home and come in plain, raspberry, blueberry and vanilla. The flavored ones are a bit too sweet but the plain one do the trick for me. They carry them at Whole Foods, at least here in the Minneapolis area and they used to have them at Target but that didn’t last long.
