Olusola got a reaction from JustBelieve in FILING SPOUSAL I-130 Nigerian Spouse and US Citizen
Hi, all. I am currently in Nigeria to legally wed my fiance and I will be returning to the US to do a spousal visa. I chose this method because from my understand, it seemed preferable based on our plans. The fiance visa, while supposedly faster, from my understand, involves first getting a K1 visa and then traveling, getting married there within 90 days of arrival, and then applying for a change of status and green card. I also understand the fiance visa can take several months just like the IR spousal visa, but on top of that requires waiting for green card after already arriving at the US. I don't want my wife to have to wait after having already waited and I also hear that there's a higher chance of denial with the fiance visa compared to the spousal one. So this is my rationale.
I was asked by a relative who is also looking into this process, which would be better. She is going the K1 route but I said I'd do some research and confirm. So, I am posting this to ask for advice or speculation regarding this, but also to ask what one can expect nowadays as far as processing times and other expectations.
I am looking forward to starting this journey so I will be submitting the forms and documents the minute I get back to the US.
Thank you.

5 year age gap, us citizen through military service, green card initially through parent. Never married at all.

Great. Was in Nigeria 3 times last year for 3 weeks each time and I also have proof of 4 to 7 hour long phone calls daily, plus I'm now in Nigeria again. Hopefully that helps them. I'm big on having complete and thorough documents and evidence so this will definitely not be an issue.

Olusola got a reaction from Redro in Touring Visa while Pending i-130 spousal visa (biometric/medical) question
Hopefully this isn't every case because that's insane and we can't afford to wait that long. I don't know if citizenship or immigration filing history would matter. This is madness.

I don't think you know anything about Nigeria, and I also don't think you read the title or first post

This is insane. Why are they collecting such huge fees from people without making efforts to improve their processes and shorten the timelines???

So is it better to do a fiance visa at this point because...that's insane

Olusola got a reaction from Genski92 in Husband wont let me work, what can I do?
Let's start with your need to work.
You've expressed that you're financially dependent on him and he doesn't want you to work.
There seems to be some power dynamics involved here already so we can't just overlook this.
It sounds like it's perhaps a better idea to take a break from working or to work from home? Do you not want to be home all day? Do you find yourself wanting breaks? If so there's nothing wrong with this so I'd say be honest with yourself first.
Secondly, has his abuse been frequent or been long running or are they more recent? You said it's not the first time but how frequent are these incidents?
Idk this seems trivial. If you're just waiting for your license, I'd suggest you just wait it out for a couple of months. What you can do is get a driving training service on some evenings. They'll pick you up and teach you to drive then you can take your driver's test when ready.
Something tells me this is more than just about work because work seems trivial. I certainly wouldn't want to be waking up a kid every night or even consider leaving any at home alone. That's insane.

Good luck guys. It moves pretty fast after your first NOA when it gets to the NVC. As long as you submit all the forms on time and pay the fees abruptly your parents can be interviewing within to 4 months after the first NVC letter. Congrats in advance
My mom just got hers on Wednesday
She gets to see my sister for the 1st time in 16 years and to meet her 2 year old grand daughter 😊😊

If you're in an extreme situation (mostly health or childbirth or something like that) and need someone, you might be able to get a visiting Visa but then you wouldn't be able to do anything else unless she gets married or something of that sort which I'd only recommend if it's legitimate
