Hey - I’ve been through something similar and I didn’t hear for months (you can check my old posts). For months, I was told that everything is fine and that my case is just a matter of time, and when my senator contacted them, he was told that it is in final background checks (which is something no one else told me) and when I was finally persistent and showed up at USCIS four times in three days, an officer (god bless her) decided to look into my case because she saw me come there a lot and told me that my file has been sitting in the wrong place for months and she physically went and moved it and issued my oath notice.
I’d recommend being persistent with them, and if the InfoPass officer doesn’t tell you anything, go to where you had your interview and ask to speak for a supervisor and just wait there. If they give you a deadline, show up the day after like you did. Keep scheduling appointments every two or three weeks (you need to do it ahead because they’re only available 14 days in advance).
Good luck and hopefully you hear good news this week.

Lelita got a reaction from MahUSA in Name Change request on n-400 = Possible delay?
It depends. I passed my interview and I'm having a judicial oath ceremony this coming week no name change request. If u apply on line you might have a shorter process.
good luck!

Lelita got a reaction from Max817 in Traveling question
You can travel without any problem. I filed back in June 2017. My husband and I traveled to my home country for Christmas for a month and 2 weeks after we came back in January my case updated to interview scheduled. Just try to keep track of your case so you don't miss anything.

When it comes to USCIS nobody really knows. One thing is for sure. Filling on line its way much faster than paper filer. Some people are very lucky and get their interview in time record.

Hi everyone,
I just had my combo interview yesterday on March 27, 2018 at Salt Lake City, Utah. The entire process is very smooth. Here are some details about my interview experience:
-We arrived at the field office around 12:10 pm, and there were not a lot of people there, we waited for about 15 mins then the office called us. The officer was very nice and knew that we are a military family as he was prior military personnel as well. First, he had us raised our right hands and swore that we will tell the truth. After that, he just looked through my I-751 file and asked me if we have more evidence since 2016, I gave him bank statements, utility bills, insurance card, etc, and the officer just punched it and added those into the file. At the same time we were just casually chatting and he was just doing his own thing on the application and didn't ask any question and seconds later, he said " This one is approved, and now I will have to excuse you to lobby while I conduct N-400 interview with you husband". So, that was it for I-751, very quick and smooth, no issue at all.
-For my N-400, he didn't really ask any more stuff and we were just chatting while he putting in information in his computer and moments later, he gave me to papers and asked me to read "Who can vote?" and asked me to write "Citizens can vote" and I passed all of them, after that we started the civic test, I only remembered 4 out of 6 questions cause I just can't not remember all of them lol. But here are the questions were asked:
1. Who were brought to the US and sold as slaves?
2. What the name of the Vice President?
3. Who did the colonists fight the British?
4. What is the highest court in the US?
After that, the officer informed me that I am all done and approved. Then the officer informed me that the next oath ceremony is on April 11, but I told him that my husband is deploying to Korea during that time and we are moving to our new station in the summer right after his return, and I will need him to be at the ceremony for the special moment. The officer is kind and nice to ask his supervisor to see if we could take oath right there and then. We waited for about 20 mins or so then we were called into the conference room and I was swore in by the center director.
I am so happy to announce that I am a proud citizen!

It will make the wait for your oath ceremony date a bit longer since it has to be scheduled through a court/judge instead of presided over by a USCIS agent.
As far as making things "complicated"---well, you will have to also change your name on all of your other legal documents you have---like drivers license, bank accounts, credit cards, car insurance, personal checks, social security card, (also your foreign passport if you wish to keep that updated), etc. so your new name matches up with all of your other identification.
You said your HUSBAND wants you to change your whole name----honestly think about what YOU want----it's YOUR name, and YOU have to live with the change, not your husband.

I'm a NYC paper filer. I filed on June 5 2017 and had my interview on 2-27-28. My oath will be on April 6. That's 10 months from start to finish. But on line filer is taking less time. Good luck to you.

Lelita reacted to Longingfor in N400 Interview went bad
I see a lesson is needed in terminology.
Undocumented as the word suggests means no document was ever issued or checked hence no record. I'm keeping simple because... simply put the wife of OP entered the US without border control checking any documentation for her such as passport. Wife hid in bushes at the US Mexico border and sneak into the US. I hope it is clear what that means.
The OP answered a few questions on his application by lying. Hence he is in a whole heap of mess. His status can be taken away and be deported because he knowingly lied on his citizenship application. His only way out this mess is to get a lawyer which he has done.
I think OP needs to focus on his meeting with USCIS and what strategy he and his lawyer is going to use. He clearly does not want to disclose truthfully his situation. He gives bits and pieces and only adds confusion to himself and the VJ community. OP time to go focus on your defence. Remember you are going to defend yourself and your documents back not defend your wife. Save your self first so that you can stay and fight to save her another day.

Tomorrow it will be 365 days, one year, since I sent in my N400 application for naturalization, and still no interview.

Lelita reacted to mhis82 in N-400 security checks pending
Ms Stephy:
I been actively reading post here on regular basis. I am can tell you, there is nothing you can do for USCIS to speed your process. Unfortunately Naturalization is a Privilege not a right.
At this point if you contacted USCIS call center, Contacted the office personally. I advise you to just wait , and you will see the results...
After few months if you no update, call your local senator to do inquiry on your behalf.
Right now, please forget about this process, focus on your family but still keep eye for this interview letter.
best Wishes

If anyone ever says this process is fun or fast, it simply means they have never dealt with immigration......

Lelita reacted to nightingalejules in Become a USA citizen
This is not true. You need to report any time spent outside the US (on the N-400 form) but as long as it's less than 180 days total, you're fine.
The 3 month presence means that you have to have lived in the jurisdiction in which you're filing for 3 months prior to filing. For example, I should have been eligible to file in August of last year, but we moved to a different state in August, so I had to wait until after November to file (which is to say, 3 months after we moved). But to be clear, that has nothing to do with physically being in the jurisdiction that whole time. It just means that your home is there.
You are free to travel before, during, and of course, after the naturalization application process, as long as you don't go beyond 180 days outside the US within the 3 years.

Lelita reacted to CEE53147 in My Boyfriend is being Deported
Sweetie, You need to see a counselor to understand why you are supporting a person involved with the death of another person. Someone with the ability to participate in the killing of a human being could do a lot of harm to you or any children you might have. Your stated love for him will not keep you safe. His immigration issuses are not your biggest problem; it is you yourself. PLEASE, keep your safety first!

my sister and one brother both worked in the prison system / a bus should be waiting for him when he is released to deport him and no lawyer in his right mind should take this case / one would take your money but they could not much help you
you mention he was also with a gang / not in his favor / America is so afraid of gang violence now
give it up girl and find a decent man or join the BS in Africa

Lelita reacted to Jeanne Adil in My Boyfriend is being Deported
and what African country
i would move to Morocco or Tunisia or South America if i needed to
others may not be so safe
and if he committed a felony crime here, maybe he is the one you should be afraid of especially if he needed to do crime back home to support himself
