Are you a Japanese national living in the US? If so, you can obtain your birth certificate in English at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General.

https://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/j/certificate/cer_birth.htmlMy husband is actually a Japanese National living in the U.S. I was looking through the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco for a form of some kind regarding the family registry... to get the birth certificate translated officially but couldn’t find it.
I only found the ones for a child.
It is fine though. After searching for a good translator and a certain price range I decided to go with an official translator.
Thanks for your help though

We used this website to translate birth certificate for our AOS interview couple of years ago:
They are reasonably priced ($25 per page) & turn around time was 24 hrs.
Good luck!
I saw this on one of my Google Search for a certified translator, however I wasn’t sure about the quality in terms of translation.
I was also considering Rev.com as they provide you a draft to check before giving you the final document.
However, it is good to know it worked out! I may consider this in the future as I decided to go with another translator that I found on Atanet.org. It’s more than what I would like to pay, around $75.00, but I suppose it is okay. I just wanted to make sure everything translated well.
Thanks!

Can you or the immigrant not translate it yourselves? The certification doesn’t need to be from a professional translator, just someone competent in both languages.
When we sent out our AOS packet we translated the document ourselves, however the interview notice said to bring a certified translation of the birth certificate so I was thinking they actually wanted a certified copy instead of our translated version.
I’m not sure if it matters or not, but I believe my spouse will be interviewing for the 10-year green card since we’ve been married for almost 3 years now.
The request for a certified translated document, is that just a generic request everyone gets from the notice?

Hello,
According to our interview notice, we need to bring a certified translation of the birth certificate.
Does anyone know any reliable translators near Hayward, CA or reliable websites that could translate accurately from Japanese to English?
I’ve reached out to places in Hayward and San Francisco and really don’t want to pay around $100-$250 for one brief translated document.

@WinterRose They asked us why we filed separately and we just told them the reason. We were approved!

As long as the explaination makes sense I suppose we should be good then. Hopefully. ^^
Also, that’s fantastic to hear! I am so happy for you two!! Congratulations!!
Glad you passed with flying colors.

Thank you so much everyone! Wish me luck!
How did everything turn out? Hopefully everything was okay. We are considering filing married but separate due to financial reasons, and are hoping it wouldn’t cause a negative effect.

Great to know!
We are hoping to file our returns sometime in March. Will make sure to have it ready if requested.
Three weeks left left until the interview. So nervous!

No, you put "Yes". You don't have to file 2018 taxes until April 15.
Yes.
Yes.
No. They may request 2018 tax returns later, or at the interview. Not in "problem" way, but in a "we'd like to make sure nothing changed" way.
No. It's perfectly acceptable to file in April and it's not yet April. Very normal.
Perfectly acceptable to show 2017 taxes, most people would use 2017 taxes since most (all?) people don't have 2018 transcripts yet. You couldn't even file taxes for 2018 until a couple of days ago.
No, just pay the taxes owed in a manner acceptable to IRS.
As long as everything is in order and IRS has a plan, you're fine.
Thank you so much for your response eckoin! I was so worry our case had the possibility of getting rejected because of not having the 2018 tax return for the interview. Your responses provided me a me a great deal of relief.

Best of luck with your interview!!!
Thank you so much and definitely!
We are so nervous, especially for the commingling of finances. We don’t have many evidences for it, but we hope all will go well.

Hello,
For Part 6, Line 23a Question: Have you filed a Federal income tax return for each of the
three most recent tax years?Do I put “No” if we haven’t filed for the 2018 Federal income tax return? We may file it late March.
We are still awaiting documents and confirming other information. Also, since the deadline for submitting the Federal income tax return is not until April 15th, will the 2017 Federal income tax return be consider the most recent if the 2018 Federal income tax return have not been filed?
If that can be the case, for Part 6, Line 24a do we just input the total income from the year 2017?
Do you think this will be a problem during the AOS interview even if we provide our W-2s?
And, do we need a letter explaining why the 2018 Federal income tax return was not file?
I am just hoping that by not filing the 2018 Federal income tax return will not give us a RFE.
Lastly, if we end up owing money to the IRS for not withholding enough tax from 2018, will this create a problem for us?
My husband owes the IRS money from his 2014 Tax Return and he already set up a debit direct pay for the amount, but it doesn’t look like the IRS have process the payment for it. I’m also worried if this will create a huge problem for us.

They do open it. They can provide you a RFE in your interview if you don't have an updated one with you. They have no obligation to do so beforehand.
Thanks Lizzie! Definitely don’t want a RFE for one that could be corrected.

If the priority date is more than 60 days out from the date of the surgeon's signature then yes, the medical will need to be redone.
We will redo the medical exam.
I suppose the USCIS Office doesn’t open the sealed envelope with the medical exam until the interview, is that right? I can only imagine that is the case since we didn’t receive a RFE for it yet.
Thanks!

Hello,
We submitted Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record around August 2017 with our AOS. The Civil Surgeon signed the medical report around May 2017.
I believe the medical validity increased to 2 years, which was effective on Novermber 1, 2018.
Although we we submitted our medical report prior to 2018, do you think our medical report is only valid for a year, or will it apply to the two year rule?
We are thinking whether or not my husband should take a new examination if it is still under the one year validity.
Now thinking about it, I think we were supposed to mail the medical report within 60 days the Civil Surgeon was supposed to sign it. We had a delay in gathering our documents. Should my husband re-do the exam?
Thanks!

Do not put anything in Part 5 #3. You don't have to put 0, just leave it blank.
Thank you. I think that makes more sense since my husband and I are married.

The household size should be 2, not 1.
Hello, yes I know. Unfortunately, the household size cannot be change and I can’t edit it so I will just print out the form and write in ink instead.

exaclty
you counted your husband, and there is a 1 for your self, you and your husband make 2, so household size is 2 not 1
the petitioner is always counted as part of the household
Thank you. I understand the numbers will add up to two under household, however if I add up item # 1-7 I will have 3.
Item # 2-7 says “Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit” so I am wondering what to put for item #3. Should it be zero?

Hello,
I am trying to update my I-864 because I changed my job.
And now thinking back, I may not have filled out PART 5 of FORM I-864 correctly. I believe I put "0" last time when I mailed out the paperwork.
I am just sponsoring my husband, so for Part 5 of item #1, I entered "1" from PART 3.
After that, the section below for PART 5 says "Person NOT sponsored in this affidavit." I am married to my husband, and I am not sure how to answer item #3 of PART 5.
Would I just put "0" since I have count item # 1-7? I only have two people in my household, my husband and I.

Thanks.

Hello, recently we found out that my husband’s EAD was approved under AOS after requesting for an expediate about 3 weeks back.
Currently, my husband is on his F-1 VISA working on his OPT EAD, which is expiring next month. After much discussion, he would like to work for another company where he is able to utilize his degree.
Our questions are:
1. Under this new EAD card, can he work for any employer?
2. Would it be okay to quit his current company and stay unemployed for a month or two?
3. Does he need to do anything else upon showing his EAD card to future employers for eligible work authorization?
-
That is great to know. Not knowing what to come next is nerve wrecking. Thank you! You have been very helpful.
-
That makes sense. I thought it was referring to his current EAD. I was getting a bit concerned since I thought this notification letter will indicate an appointment time for his biometrics.
Thank you! We will rest at ease until then.

Hello,
My husband mailed in the I-765 separately under I-485 two weeks ago and today we received the I-797C. After reading the notice we are a bit confused of the I-765 situation. I attached a screenshot of what the notice states.
My husband applied for a new new card under I-485 but right now he is under his OPT EAD. According to the notice, it doesn't seem like he will get a new EAD card until his OPT EAD expires. The notice doesn't seem to state anything about the EAD my husband is applying for but is referring to his current one. Am I understanding this correctly? Or is this notice is telling us to wait and USCIS is still trying to process the I-765 form and we should receive another NOA? So for now, we don't need to do anything?
-
Hello, so we received the I-797c papers in the mail recently with our AOS package and I understand that I need to make some corrections on my I-130, however regarding my husband's I-797c paper it states that the application was rejected because of the reasons stated on the related I-797 form.
Does that mean he doesn't need to do anything and I just need to correct the information on my paperwork?
I did call USCIS regarding this matter twice but they weren't so helpful..since my husband needs to call them whenever he is available from work.
I just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on this while waiting for my husband to get back to me if he could contact USCIS during his lunch break.
-
That makes sense. I was a bit confused on what happens if there was already an EAD card. I feel like it was a bit stupid of me to think too hard on it.
Thank you you so much, it is helpful!
-
Great to know! Thank you for responding Scandi! I will contact USCIS again for further information since we are stuck on the first question, not sure if we are to get a new card or renew an existing card since my husbna's current EAD card is under OPT conditions.
Missing I-797C Question

I have a question. Does anyone know what happens if you don’t have one of the I-797C form? I just found out my husband is missing one form, which is for the biometrics notice. Will we be turn away for his interview?
