  1. Thank you for your advice but there is more to it--my wife intends to visit the embassy in the Philippines to update her passport (that is starting to run out) to have my last name added to it. So, will this create conflicts for her upon return with her passport saying her new marital name but her boarding passes saying her maiden name? I'm asking this because we're getting round trip tickets. Thanks!

Vann: This is extremely common. Have your wife buy the tickets in the name that's on her passport (Philippines passport). She will just need to show her greencard when she enters USA. My wife has done it several times and so have hundreds of millions of others. (My wife has never been asked for the marriage certificate (her name on her passport is her maiden name - different from her greencard name) but no one has ever asked for the marriage certificate and the last three times we didn't even carry a copy (we went to India, Panama and Colombia and didn't carry the marriage certificate). Don't worry. Good Luck

I'm ordering the tickets today which is why I'm so urgent right now. Thanks!

why don't she update when you guys get back in the US?? why fix if it ain't broke right?? she can't renew unless it's expiring. she can go to a PI Consulate in your area if she wants to amend her passport after you get back here. in that way you'll prevent something from confusions..

  2. Just thought to share my experience:

applied after divorce in June 2008 Vermont. Send them 2 lbs of documents.

Since then my case was never touched, as well as was not transfered to California together with other cases of June 2008. I did not know what to think but decided to wait till June before setting up infopass.

On April 4th I moved and sent them change of address form in letter as well as changed it on-line for my case. Got "touch" on 9th, approval on 14th and Greencard on 20th.

....after that I really wonder if my case was gathering dust on somebody'd desk(and that's why was not transfered to Cali), got pulled for address update, somebody looked through it and approved...in other words I have a feeling that if I haven't moved, my case would still be there with no updates or news...

Funny thing that many people are afraid of moving while their case is pending, actually I was one of them too...but it seems it helped.

Best of luck to all of you!

    congratulations!!!!!!! best of luck..

  3. Does my wife need a new PASSPORT from the Philippines after she is married. Her name has changed so it is not the same as on her Passport. (LAUGHING) she still will have lots of documents with her OLD name and her K-1 shows her old name.

This is fun and I love her dearly ...... but this is also so confusing and killing me.

We are waiting for the papers for a Wavier to be able to leave and REENTER the U.S. I am somewhat retired and LOVE TO TRAVEL.

    David and Rosie

If her passport is still valid, she can still used it eventhough she's already married to you. Unless when she filed for her AOS and decided to use her married name and her waiver or PR card came in her new name then she needs to bring her MC to show the name trail when you travel. She can amend her passport if she wants to but she needs to update the SSA first then DMV for her ID or DL. She'll be fine..

  4. Why will you reschedule your ceremony just for the reason you'll have a baby shower?? That can wait, you can schedule the baby shower anytime anyway. Why don't you go to your oath and then schedule the baby shower later to make the party more special (baby shower/becoming a USC) or schedule your baby shower early to accomodate these 2 special events? Just my 2 cents.

  5. HI, guys.

I will have my Oath ceremony tomorrow morning.

Right now, I am try to organize all my documents, but I could not find my interview letter, I mean the interview letter for the interview two month ago, I guess I mailed it back with the requested documents that the IO requested during the interview.

am I gonna be OK? for those of you who went to the oath before, what kind document they will look at other than Green card and oath letter.

    thanks!!!!!!!

I brought that with me but they did not even bother to look at it nor even ask for it. All you need most importantly are your GC & your Oath notice. Fill up that notice and sign too. And don't forget your camera..Goodluck!

  6. I filed for my 751 waiver in oct 2007.It transfered from Texas to CSA in oct 2007.Fingerprints were in Nov 2007.I had not heard anything since, no ,"touches", no emails, nothing.I survived on I551 stamp on my passport.

Finally today, after many months of waiting, I got my Green card.I had already submitted my N400 as I recently became eligible for citizenship based on 5 yrs of PR.

To all the people with 751 waivers out there, don't loose hope. You ll get your card.I couldn't find much info online on waivers, I guess coz very few people file them .

    Thank you Jesus!!

Congratulations!!!!!! I too was a waiver filer and got approved after 6 months or so and recently became a USC.. Although I may say, it varies, you've waited long enough and that is something to cheer about, finally getting your unconditional card. I suggest you keep records of your I-751 in hand as these might be asked of you on your N400 interview. Best of luck!

  7. Hey everyone

Well, after my interview last Tuesday( April 2nd), today i received my Naturalization Oath Ceremony letter...Uau, that was fast..Thank God cause i couldnt deal with the wait any longer..

Oath ceremony on April 22nd ( again, fast) on Pomona...Looking foward to it, almost an American Citizen ! ! !

    Almost over..

    Wish all the best

congratulations!!! that was really fast and i waited like 2 months for the ceremony  ..well best of luck! happy to know you're almost done..

  8. You posted on a public forum therefore your topic is up for grabs. If you don't want responses then don't post on a public message board.

Honestly, Seka, I saw this coming from the day you joined VJ. I know the games MENA men play. It's very obvious. You guys should probably come up with something better than "my wife is suddenly a raging alcoholic" or "my wife is cheating on me". It's funny how American women all of a sudden become crazy when you guys get tired of them.

    What does MENA stand for?

    Middle East North Africa

It is the female equivalent of Phillipines, Thailand etc.

Did you just say that??? i hope you're more sensitive on that one not to generalize people from those countries! Maybe some but not all of us..

  9. you already have a 10 yr card so what's the problem here?? you can live on your own, divorce your wife if that's what you want or attend counselling with your wife if the marriage could still be save or not. you have the right to do what you want. if what's bothering you is your immigration status, i see no problem unless you did something wrong for them to suspect you of immigration fraud. everything's said & done, it's still your prerogative. wish you the best!

  10. The IO said they can not make a decision and will let me know. I went there 30 minutes early and sate with my hubby. The officer was a young girl and she had an assistant, a young man who was watching the process. The IO went through my papers, marriage photos from the old files, asked me about my name, date of birth, when I got married etc. She asked me about my new job which I got only last week. The question she asked was,

    1) One of the amendment related to vote.

    2) If the President is no longer in the position, who will be the next Presdent.

    3) What reason coloniest came to America, I said "Freedom" but she was not satisfied and asked me what kind of freedom. I said the rest of the answers in the list.

    4) The head of the executive branch. I don't remember the rest of the questions because she was talking about other matters at the same of asking the questions. She gave a paper to read and I wrote " We pay taxes."

She asked me to sign the photos which I submitted with my application. I showed her my new set photos and she said the new one look better. So, I signed the new photos, the paper for the oath and on the bottom of the N-400 application.

Finally she said she can not make a decision right now and will let you know. She gave the paper which said I passed the test of English. History and Civic.

I don't know what will happen, I don't know what will be their decision. I am freaking out!!!!!!!!

on that paper that says you passed the test, did she check the reason why decisions not made at your interview?? i hope it comes out positive and you'll get your oath letter soon. best of luck!

  11. it seems you are obviously moving on with your life, yet today you posted on his myspace.

    :hehe:

 Yes, I did posted on his myspace... I am still married I need him to sign the divorce papers. I hope you never have to go through this!

we're missing something here  ..nways, you can file as soon as you get your decree. Even if you pass the 90 days period, it could be explained to the USCIS for the untimely filing of your I-751. As long as you provide the USCIS an affidavit or letter that explains why plus a copy of your pending divorce proceedings, you'll be ok. If you plan on getting married again then that's your prerogative..

  12. I am about to file to remove the conditions on residence and want to have my married name on my Green Card. My original 2 year Green Card contains my maiden name and I am wondering how I can change this.

My concern is that all my documents are listed under my new married name. Only my foreign passport and conditional green card bear my maiden name.

On the I-751 form should I use my new married name under the first box which is for the family name (aka last name)?

Should I use my new last name for the Affidavit letters?

Will this confuse anyone at USCIS?

    Thanks for all your help

Yes you can and provide a copy of your MC when you file so they'll know. And at the other names used, you can put down the old name. You can file I-90 for replacement (like name change) but it'll be a waste of money if you plan to file N400 later..Goodluck!

  13. Hello all

Well, yesterday i went to my citizenship interview at the LA office..

I got there at 10 am and they told me to come back at 10:30....The room was packed, totally full..

So i came back and sat down until 1pm, i was almost freaking out as i was almost the last one to be called..

Finally this lady came out and called my name and on to the interview..

We sat down, she asked for my Green Card, Passports and Driver License.Asked me a few questions about my traveling overseas..she was checking the whole application at the same time...She also asked me if i had more pictures as the ones that i sent it were wrong...

Then she asked to read a phrase in english: THE PRESIDENT LIVES IN THE WHITE HOUSE.....and to write the same sentence..Really easy..PASSED!!!

She asked me 10 questions about history and government..You have to get 6 to pass..I Passed..

who is the father of our country????

On what month we vote for president??

How many representatives there are in Congress???

What does the Judicial branch does???

Who is the speaker of the house???

Whats the 3 first words of the constitution???

How often do we elect US representatives???

i dont remember the other ones...

Then she made sign a few papers...Asked about my ex wife and the present one...she kept all the docs that i took it to prove that my marriage was for real...and asked me if i had any questions...and i asked if i passed if i was approved...She laughed and said that she couldnt tell me because i didnt have the pictures and therefore my application was incomplete..I went to the 3rd floor took some pictures and gave her at her office..She told me to wait the decision in the mail...

Pretty easy i guess, i hope i got approved....Lets wait...

    My best to all..

congratulations!! did they handed you the N-652 where it says "congratulations etc.."? best of luck..be patient, you're in for a couple of weeks for your oath letter to arrive..

  15. Hi,

I will become a USC soon (hopefully) and I will sponsor for my parents. I made a First name change in my N-400 Application for Naturalization.

When I look at I-130, it asks for proof of name change.

If my US Certificate (with new First name) is not enough to satisfy this "proof of name change", What documents do I need?

    Please advise. Thanks.

If you're married and changed name then provide a copy of it. if you filed for name change on your n400 application then it will reflect on your nat certificate. it comes along a certified copy of your petition for name change which you signed during your interview. the new name is effective the same day you had your oath. they will satisfy the name change you're asking. those are the docs that satisfy your name change if different from your BC.submit copy of those. Goodluck!

  16. Hi Mooninlove,

what is the Court Order Name Change? Is it the same as the Petition for Name Change I signed at the Interview?

After you received your Certificate, did the name change already take place? Did you have to do anything after that to make the name change officially? I heard someone said I would have to wait for the Court to change the name for me after the Oath, even though I still could get my Certificate at the Oath.

Another question, I plan to sponsor for my parents after becoming USC, and form I-130 requires proof of name change. Can this Petition for Name Change or the Court Order Name Change satisfy this requirement?

Should I delay this I-130 process until I get my new SSN and Driver Licence with the new name?

    Please advise. Thanks

Yes, that's the one. At the bottom of that form shows the Court approval of your name change. And on your Certificate whatever that name change is, is already there (new name). The waiting time is normal, same for those who did not changed names. The name change is effective the same day you had your oath so no waiting time for that.

If you plan to petition your parents, you submit the same requirements on I-130. Send a copy of your Nat Cert., copy of that name change, BC, MC, fee and the form. It's up to you if you wanna delay your submission of I-130. I don't think they require the ssn & dl, you could still update them & need not to wait for it if you submit your I-130 now. You could prove anyway of your name change by submitting what i mentioned above. hope it helps!

  17. Hi,

I had my first name changed on N-400 and still awaiting Oath Letter after 3 months...

What should I do, regarding the name change, after I become a US Citizen?

Can I apply for a Passport right after become US citizen? Or should I apply the change to SS and Drive Licence before I could apply for a Passport?

    Please advise. Thanks.

The Petition for Name Change that you sign during your interview will be stapled at the back of your Nat Certificate which you will receive after the Oath Ceremony. You need to bring your certificate and the Court Order Name Change when you go to SSA office to update your bio info, same thing with the DMV.You can apply right away for your passport if you want but be sure to make copies of it. I waited 2 months for my Oath letter, maybe other offices takes longer..Best of luck!

  18. No, I did not. The green card showed up only 8 months ago, and I failed to look at the expiration date.

you said 8 months ago?? isn't the card good for 2 years?? and your wife should have known better since you guys went out of the country vacation, she should have thought about it and stuff that needs to be taken care of..blaming is late but i hope you guys sort this out successfully. Best of luck..
