  1. Last night my fiancee and I were discussing her upcoming medical appointment (Tues, 6 Feb) - and when to send the checklist back in - and of course we were second guessing when the interview might be. Knowing her consulate isn't very backlogged she was hoping for Feb 27 or 28, and I said, NO, Feb 21 when I meant Feb 20.....

But, this morning the consulate called her, asked her if she had an appointment yet, to which she responded her medical was on Tuesday, and the consulate's reply was to schedule the interview for Tues 20 Feb !!!!! Almost there !!!!

  2. Not sure if it will be a problem, I would err on the side of caution and send the latest form, that way she will be covered just in case.

Yes I agree..there is no reason to sweat this if I don't need too...as I have 2.5 weeks befor her interview.. I'll get another one notarized tomorrow and send it out...

    Thanks

Why waste your time and money - I just checked mine, top of page 1, says exp 04-30-07. It's ok!

  3. do these have to be notarized or a notarized I34 ,w2s and paystubs are sufficient??

Do what have to be notarized? If yo are speaking of the W-2 and paystubs, what are you expecting the notary to attest to?

do we have to notarize the tax return also?

I-134 form ONLY indicates to notarize the I-134 - don't make it more complicated than it needs to be :)

  4. Oh no! The lists are so interesting and encouraging too! Do they take a long time to do? Is it mostly automatic or a long manual process? I'm pretty busy but I might consider doing them if no one else comes forward…

I know Gary made it really easy with his compilations - but the info is really easy to find on the K1 timeline search feature

  5. Has anyone ever heard of police certificates being asked for before age 16? My fiancee is a bit concerned because of this statement on her consulate checklist under police certificates: "Each visa applicant aged 16 years or over is required to submit a police certificate from the police authorities of each locality of the country of the applicant's nationality or current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen. Police certificates are also required from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year."

So the second statement is the question: does she need a police certificate from another country she lived in before age 16?

  6. UPDATE!

I called the US Embassy in Bangkok but at first, they would not let me speak to anyone in the visa unit and insisted that I must email. I demanded to speak to the operators supervisor and explaind that it was my opinion that the officer there was readjuticating the case, and wound up actually getting to speak to the officer who did the interview. After hearing my argument - she agreed to reverse her decision and grant the visa for my fiance, and explaind how, under the circumstances, that she could get a statment from Amphur about custody of her child.

SO... half way there, fiance approved, child pending :P

    Bill

Wow Bill, sorry to hear about the snag, but good for persisting!!!!

  7. Just thought I'd post for others to see the progress.....visa petition made it through NVC per my timeline, and Johannesburg consulate today confirmed my email inquiry that the petition package is ready to be picked up!!!!

Well this is the part that takes time too... But it's seems faster as you have things to do...keeping yourself working on the packet 3..etc..,

So good luck...and have fun...this part of the journey is nearing the end

    thanks all!

And Chris, true, but the only thing to do is the medical - we have everything else done - and my fiance has filled out the DS-156 several times before, so she's ready for that!

  8. I plan on including my bank statements when I go to my fiance's interview next week. Do I need to include all pages of the statement? Or will just the summary page (Shows how much deposited, how much taken out, beginning and ending balance for that month), work? I ask, because each of my statements is upwards of 15-20 pages, and that seems like a lot to throw at the officer with the I-134.

    Thanks!

    :star: Cass (bebop the great)

Since the I134 instructions are asking for deposits - I would just include the summary page that shows how much was deposited. After all they're asking for a letter of how much has been deposited and your statement shows that.

  9. my situation is this, i recieved my NOA2 on dec. 21st 2006. i have been calling the NVC all week and they tell me they have not recieved my petition yet. Today i called the USCIS california service center and the late (rude) told me that it is still in there building and i should allow them about 3-5 more weeks before they send it out to the NVC. Its due to the holidays. Is anybody else experienceing this same situation because they recieved a NOA2 right before the holidays.

    Thank you everybody in advance

I know it doesn't help much, but see my timeline for a comparison.

  10. Texas Bound,

They are looking for your personal total income, Line 22 on the 1040.

This causes consternation to some of the self-employed who want to consider their business' income as their own income. But it's not the business that is sponsoring the immigrant, it's the person. So, as diadromous mermaid points out, it's what carries over to the 1040 from Schedule C that counts. All those business expenses that reduce taxes also reduce one's ability to sponsor an immigrant.

    Yodrak

Schedule C only applies to a sole proprietor situation. For those of us "self-employed" and filing as corporations, sub S included, then there's a K1 (tax form) from the business that's reported on the individual tax return.

  11. Here are this weeks timelines. Enjoy!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing this every week. Words cannot express my gratitude...It is the highlight of my week every week..to see the timelines and the progress..it gives me a glimmer of hope. Who is going to do this when you're unable to??

Thank you very much, once again!

Your very welcome. I will be doing this for 5 more weeks. Hopefully someone will take it over.

Gary - PM me with a clue how you do it - I'm quite computer saavy, but need a hint of what's involved.

  12. So, the I-134 asks for a notarized copy of the tax return, but the Vancouver consulate also requests W-2s from the sponsor.

    My co-sponsor is self-employed. He doesn't receive a W-2, but a 1099 from his clients.

Perhaps this requirement is unique to Vancouver, but I wanted to ask out here to increase the numbers of self-employed people likely to have experience with this.

If you're self-employed, did you submit a 1099 along with the rest of the I-134 requirements in lieu of a W-2?

Personally I'm keeping it SIMPLE. The form says this:

    C. If self-employed:

    1. Copy of last income tax return filed; or

    2. Report of commercial rating concern.

It doesn't say anything else! I gave my fiancee last year's (2005) tax return and a bank statement. My income isn't a factor so that should suffice.

As for the 1099 - all that info is already on your tax return. Keep it simple.

Only the I-134 needs to be notarized, not the tax return.

They only ask for one year of tax returns. (I-134, not I-864.) But the 1099 is what they'd want, you think? Small business taxes are sort of complicated; I'm not sure if they need the quarterly schedules.

again, keep it simple, what quarterlies? I've been both a sole proprietory and subch S - the only quarterlies are employee withholding filings. There are no quarterlies to show your income.

  13. Hello All,

I haven't posted before but I could not keep this news to myself....I received an

e-mail today saying that we were approved!!! I am sooooo excited!!! Happy New Year!

I know that the next step is the NVC and then on to the embassy. My question is what exactly is in the packets 3 and 4? I want to start gathering stuff now and I can't seem to find this information. I know that I have to get the AOS ready and send that to my fiance, is there anything else? Thanks in advance for your help. And to anyone else out there waiting for their NOA 2....I am praying for you, its a WONDERFUL feeling to see that in your in box!

The AOS isn't gotten ready yet, maybe you're thinking of the I-134.

  14. I tried to post this very early this morning but kept getting logged out:

What makes this especially great, is I'm in South Africa with my fiance - I know I was touched yesterday morning, and when we went to sleep I said there's a good chance I'll see some emails when we wake up - we're 7hrs ahead of EST. Sure enough, I woke up and straight to the computer, and.....
