  1. Hi everyone. I need help figuring out how or when to even begin this process.

I moved 10 months ago after my wife filed for me using the i-130... the process went smoothly. I got my resident card and social 6 weeks after moving.... When or how do I renew or do an adjustment of status? Do I even need to do an adjustment of status? or do I just need to renew my residency? If so, when do i?

  2. Hi everyone.

Does anyone know what documents I need to walk with when applying for my social security card?

I tried calling just now but they are closed. So I'm going tomorrow morning.

My resident card hasn't arrived yet. But while I wait I want to apply for my social so I can atleast work and stuff.

What documents do I need to walk with?

    Thanks :)

You do not need the physical GC to work

you need your SS card, which if you haven't received can go to your local SS office to apply for one (often that is faster than waiting to see if the one you requested in the DS260 arrives)

the CR1 visa foil in your passport acts as a GC for 1 year following PoE

Ohhhh I see, Okay I will do that ASAP. Thanks so much!

  4. Hi everyone, So our process is complete and i'm Here in San Diego with my wife finally :)

it's been a week since i've entered the US. I was processed at the JFK airport then took my connecting flight to San Diego.

My USCIS Immigrant fee ($220) has already been paid about 3 weeks ago.

I know they said it would be within 120 days (4 months) till I receive my resident card and be able to work and stuff...but that seems like a long time...does it really take that long??? is there a number to contact someone and ask about it??

  5. Hi everyone...so I just paid my $220 USCIS immigrant fee.

after paying that I saw an option to "create a USCIS online account". I started the process. but stopped where they said I can cancel cause there is a 60 minute Identity quiz if I click "get started"...

do I need to create this account seeing that I already paid the USCIS Immigrant fee?

  6. Goodnight everyone.  I had my interview 3 days ago, it went well and my visa got approved. I was told that my visa and visa package would be ready in one week to be picked up at the DHL courier I registered with...

At the time I had registered with the DHL courier (in December) I used my Close to expiration passport to register, to have my package delivered there, while in the process of waiting for my new passport so I could have attended the interview with a valid (more than 6 months) passport...

so the interview went well and got approved and they kept my new passport..

what I didn't think of till right now is that I never changed my passport number on the "ais.usvisa-info.com"  website that I registered to have my package delivered!!

anyone know if that would cause an issue? did I just put a set back on things?  can I change it now, 3 days after my interview?? should I even change it??

  7. Hi good night everyone. My wife and I just completed our  i-130 process. She filled for me. It took about 10 months total. My interview was a few days ago.  I'm suppose to pick up my visa next week at a DHL post office. After that I'm booking my ticket to fly to California.

I guess my next step is my AOS. Can I get some info on that? Like when can I start it and the cost of it? Someone told me my AOS process can cost almost $1800us and I almost choked. Is this true?

I'm the petitioner sponsoring my Trinidadian husband and we're in a similar situation right now.

We got our interview date for Nov 8th and he applied for his new passport over a month ago with zero progress. Currently we are being told from the POS and Chaguanas offices that there's is a "shortage" of passports and unless there's a death, illness or work emergency you will not be able to have the renewal expedited. I was told the normal waiting time is 2-5 months.

So now we're basically stuck. His medical is on Oct 24th and his passport expires on April 24th 2018. By the time we get to our interview however, his passport's validity would be less than 6 months. Since tomorrow is a holiday in Trinidad, I cannot get in touch with the US embassy there until Thursday. I'm going to try calling the offices here in the states to find out what his options are.

I'll keep you posted. I don't want you to end up in the same situation as us. It sucks to have gotten this far to have something as routine as a passport renewal not be efficient in Trinidad.

Oh dam O_O this is so troubling...I hope you get good news really soon. and thank you.we really appreciate it ... i can't even begin to understand how it is there can be a shortage of local passports for the country...

Also how long after you sent in your IV and Affidavits of support package were y'all issued an interview date? my wife is about to send in our package by thursday once we have everything together.

  9. Does anyone know what they do about vaccinations? i have all my vaccinations required for this country (trinidad and tobago) but i am missing a few that is required for the united states. in the part of the application where i was asked if i have documents to prove that i'm up to date with united states vaccinations i put "no". and i explained that i have vaccinations required for my country.

what do they do in this case?

AOS is generally used for Adjustment of Status - I know you specified that you meant the i864. I just thought I'd tell you cause you might cause confusion talking to ppl if you refer to the i864 as AOS form.

In any case :) good luck to you both

ohh ok thanks..its because I heard someone say AOS is "Affidavits of support". Our process feels like it's almost over though. i'm grateful it went by without any issues and and pray it continues that way. this site has been so helpful.we would really be lost if we didn't bump into this site.

    DS-260 is submitted online.

You should also get an email confirmation after submitting it. You can print the DS-260 confirmation as well after submitting.

Along with AOS package, there is the IV package that needs to be sent to NVC as well as well the cover sheet. The IV package will have the beneficiary's information.

thank you...right now, all we have according to instructions are the DS 260 which i just filled out and the AOS which my wife is filling out. when and where do we get the IV package?

  12. hi everyone

My wife and I are filling out our DS 260 form. I am the beneficiary so I filled out that form. she is currently filling out her AOS form and gathering all our needed info to mail in to the NVC.

what I want to know is, does she have to print my filled out DS 260 form and send it together with her AOS (affidavits of support)  and evidence? or is the DS 260 form to be done online only?  I am at the part where it says "sign and submit Application.

    The next step is :Confirmation

  13. Hi everyone, our case was approved by the uscis and was moved onto the nvc.. few days later (today) we were able to get our IIN number and case number and was told to go to the NVC website and follow the steps there.

the first step is to "choose an agent". when i tried logging in i get this message.

" Please be advised that the case that you have attempted to access is not eligible for further processing by the National Visa Center at this time. Please contact the National Visa Center if you believe that you have received this message in error."

anyone know why I might be getting this issue?
