  1. If she got rid of anything of value, then she is not a golddigger.

Couples should get rid of ALL past stuff, or the rship is just a shallow arrangement of convenience, based on benefitting the female materially, while paying back the man bodywise. That is my opinion, and at my age, am always correct.

We both got rid of all our old pictures, letters, cards, emails, and what have you from past relationships long before we became one. Although it was never an issue, we did it anyway.
  2. In general, women are very material and greedy, that is why men in this country suffer so much. If you want to keep holding onto past s#it you got from him, why dont you go back to him?shishhh

Guys, we need to start leaving these women who cant get over their past and get fresh ones with limited 'baggage'. That is the conclusion from seeing how women value material things over their love lives or the feelings of those they now claim to love(mostly for financial or other one sided selfish reasons).

    Am sick of American women!!!!!!

  3. Except a child that cannot be undone, I believe people should get rid of EVERYTHING.

If you keep jewelry for example, does it not always remind you of whom/how you got it? Why don't you get rid of it and go out with your spouse and get a nearly identical one? Thats what I would do.I would flush it down the toilet and just get another, next time around, from the incumbent or from myself. Otherwise does it not make you feel like the rship has 3 people?

If you do not, and even if your spouse makes you think it is OK like the guy who said the wife labelled a file "Matt's girls", you watch. Sooner or later the issue will come up, usually after things go downhill and someone says 'oh you can leave me and go back to your girls'. It is human to please the one you are with when things are good, but when helll breaks lose, especially for those who are immigrant and American marriages (the immigrant may not be speaking their mind because for immigration purposes they are not independent), every little fact is a weapon and everyone is collecting an arsenal gradually.Been there.Dont let calm waters fool you.

It strikes me how naive people are in relationships, only sitting like ducks until things explode and you wonder what changed. Nothing changed, things are always in the background, even if they appear ok.

  4. Sol-de-verano,

Why dont you ask your guy to 'counsel' the other guy who is totally being a jerk?

Attitude can really stress and break marriages and the new fella is not helping the OP. I do not support the culture of people issuing threats in relationships. If you say you want to do something, do it! Dont threaten to do something just for the sake of it.Otherwise, the polite request should always be: 'please shut the f up'.

My fiancé and I have discussed this a few times, I have explained to him that he won't be able to work/leave the US for a few months before he gets his EAD/GC. He's ready for the challenge and we have made sure that he'll have plenty to do on that time off. He knows our city transportation system and he always finds something to get himself occupied. We tested this when he came and stayed for 3 months a year ago.

He said something that I actually found funny: "Well, let's enjoy this time off/vacation before I start working nonstop." On the NL he has around 26+ paid vacation days and here he'll have to deal maybe with 10.

I can imagine it's hard to think that you are not contributing to the household but, since this won't change before he gets his EAD, maybe he can go around to get to know the city, at least language won't be a problem for him! Or, helping you with the household since you work all day? Grocery shopping, stuff like that... Enjoy the time off?

I wish you the best of luck, it must be sad what you are going thru.:(

  5. No need to open IKEA in NC. I already bought all my house furniture. Too late.

Ikea takes aim at the home state of America's furniture industry

Store set in heart of furniture country

By Ieva M. Augstums The Associated PressPublished: January 18, 2007

    CHARLOTTE, North Carolina

The Swedish retailer Ikea is making plans to open its first store in the home state of America's furniture industry, where competition from abroad has shuttered dozens of manufacturing plants and led to thousands of lost jobs.

Ikea, the iconic home furnishings retailer, plans to open its first store in North Carolina in 2009, not far from the marketplace that is the largest sales fair in the business.

But experts said furniture manufacturers and retailers here should not feel threatened by the large bright blue-and- yellow Ikea store, which is packed with inexpensive merchandise.

In fact, they think it might even help sales of more expensive items.

"The fact that Ikea is coming, it will definitely encourage consumers to spruce up their homes," said Jackie Hirschhaut, vice president of the American Home Furnishings Alliance. "Those that like Ikea will buy it. Consumers who want something more will take a look at it and decide to buy something else somewhere else."

And that "something more" is what consumers can get from the manufacturers — including those from North Carolina — who feature their products at the annual home furnishings market in nearby High Point, Hirschhaut said.

The Ikea concept was created in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad, then a 17-year-old who made pencils, stools and matchboxes on his family farm and sold them in neighboring villages.

The company now sells inexpensive lamps, linens, cooking utensils, storage units, wall décor and more to go along with its modern furniture, most of which can be assembled with simple tools.

While the brand appeals to many, Ikea's wares — flat packed and ready to assemble yourself — are often favored by younger consumers, said Mary Frye, president of the Home Furnishings International Association, a Dallas-based trade group.

"They are not for everyone, but they do have a following," she said.

One reason behind the company's popularity is what Ikea officials call "affordable design." After flipping through the company's 370-page catalog, others might just call the items cheap.

"Consumers' needs help determine a piece of furniture's value," Frye said. "You may want to put a $200 Ikea bed in your guestroom and you may think you deserve a $2,000 Thomasville bed in your room."

That is the kind of furniture produced in places such as Thomasville, North Carolina, a town built around furniture manufacturing plants, and sold at the trade show in High Point.

The market is not open to the public, but almost 85,000 industry insiders did business in 12 million square feet, or 1.1 million square meters, of showroom space there last October.

Ikea is not among the thousands of manufacturers from around the world that show off their products at the market. Many are high-end producers whose furniture is sold at much smaller independent showrooms and stores.

Joseph Roth, an Ikea spokesman, said more than 150,000 North and South Carolina residents already travel to shop at its stores or shop online.

The retailer, which has its North American headquarters just outside of Philadelphia, opened its first U.S. store in 1985 and has 29 U.S. locations primarily up and down the East and West coasts.

The company is currently "focused on building a presence in the South," Roth said. Ikea already operates a store in Atlanta and has two more under construction in Florida.

  6. They need to line up all the new recruits to go for target practice on this guy. He is living on borrowed time if you ask me..he wil soon be dead, either under police force, self inflicted or suicide by cop, whereby no one can actually tell who shot the fatal one.

If I were this guy, I would get the hell up, go to church and repent. Failure to that, write his will..on second thought however, he will have nothing left at death, the taxman will take everything he owns except the clothes on him and his carcass!

  7. Let him go. If thats what he wants to do, let him do it. He is grown. If he is becoming a jacka## over something like this, what if you get sick or had a serious problem, is this how he would behave? Run back to the UK? Come on!

This is a no brainer! He is trying to get control of your mind slowly by slowly..he has symptoms of a verbal abuser, if you ask me....oh, he is from the UK, I rememeber.

  8. I was thinking about this and it seems clear to me that when a spouse dies, the law should use the death certificate to issue a divorce certificate based on DEATH of one of the spouses. Is it not cruel to keep asking for a death certificate to prove one can re-marry? It keeps reminding the surviving spouse that your spouse is dead. And keeps reminding the new spouse-to be (fiancee) that you are about to marry a 'used' spouse who would still be married if the previous spouse did not die.

  9. Kinda confused here. I started the day yesterday witha shower as usual, but got to the office and started smelling smthng and the smell would follow me whereever I went..soeone came by and said something in here smells nice.

By lunch time, the smell was gone.

Was I the one smelling? Where did the smell go?

  10. Try to stay away from wireless internet..people can tap into your network and they can access internet that way or worse, they can access your computer. Your wireless router is basically transmitting signals anyone can pick up..do more reserach on this before you get going
