Hello,
I am hoping that someone can help me. I applied for my green card renewal in May 2019, and I received I-797 (green card extension letter) which would be active for 18 months.
After I went for my finger print last year, I have not received any more update from USCIS. I have called and they keep saying they will contact their back office. My extension letter is about to expire in September and I don’t know what to do.

She can travel within the visa time frame. if the visa is valid for 6 months, e.g expires in September, she has from now till September to visit and leave. Now some people may say if she enters in July and she gets stamped @ POE (point of entry) for 6 months which "may" mean she can she can stay till January. That may be risky, so let her come stay for visa timeline leave and renew visa when it expires, hopefully she gets the 2years visa instead of 6months. When I applied for my parents I indicated they will be staying for 6months, the visa received was for 2years multiple entry and the stamp @ POE was 6 months. They stayed 6months and left when due. Hope this helps.
thanks for the info

You can enter till the last day on the visa (but don’t arrange travel that close, if she missed a flight or something and lands the next day they won’t let her in). At entry they will stamp how long she can stay for. I’m not sure if they tend to be less “generous” with short validity visas. I’ve had entry approved for both 3-month and 6-month stays on various travels.
unlike what another poster above implied, her visit does not have to be completed by the visa expiry, she just has to enter by then.
as with arriving, don’t book her departure for the last day she’s allowed to be there. If the flight is cancelled etc she will overstay and that will void her existing visa (if still valid) and endanger the chances of any future one. Seen a few of these cases on VJ recently.
Thank you a lot for the detailed answer. I plan to book her ticket about 2 months prior to visa expiration date to allow time for any unplanned events. We want her to spend at least 3 months in the US. At this stage, is it necessary to book a return ticket if we don't know how long they will stamp her visa for at the POE?

Thank you for the update.
You have learned something valuable with this process. Teach others about how "sponsorship" is more of a myth than a requirement for a visitor visa. It will help them also.
I will. I guess we use the word sponsorship and financial help interchangeably but I’m pretty sure that more questions will be asked at the port of entry pertaining to her financial status and I guess that’s where our plans to financially assist and accommodate her come in handy.
But I know that this won’t be a problem.

My mother in law just got issued a B2 visa today in Nigeria but we intend for her to travel later by July and leave by October. I know that her visa is only valid for 6 months, and assuming it expires in September, how long does she have to enter the US? I also know that her stay is determined by I-94 at the airport.
The reason for this confusion is that initially when we applied for her in February, we thought that her interview date would be in months time, or that we can schedule like 3 months ahead but there was no option to do so online. We had to choose the next available date which was in March.

Hello everyone,
I guess this question is no longer necessary. My mother in law just left the US consulate in Lagos with all smiles. She was approved for a tourist visa to the US even though she didn’t have a hefty bank account. She wasn’t asked about any income status or lengthy questions. Just her sons name, purpose of her visit and where she’s going. That’s it!
Thanks for all your answers. No one can say for sure what they will ask but I doubt that financial status is that important if your son/daughter is inviting you for a quick visit.

You cannot sponsor an applicant for a tourist visa. The applicant must meet the standard on their own.
I know a lot of people that have successful invited their unemployed parents to visit them in the US. Is there a special trick to that or is it just luck?

I applied for my mother in law to visit us in the US this summer for 4 weeks. She is a teacher in Nigeria, married, babysits her other grandchildren and has a landed property. She also has 4 other children in Nigeria so there's strong ties for her to return. However, I feel like her income alone won't convince the interviewer. We are willing to sponsor her and it's also stated on the DS160 application. Her interview is less than 2 weeks away and I am wondering if there's any document I need to send from my end for her to take with her to the interview, like tax returns, recent W-2 or letter of invitation? We haven't done this before. Just seeking guidance. Thanks!

Hello to the good people of Nigeria and beyond,
I have just finished scheduling a B2 visa interview for my mother in law to join us in the US for a 2 month visit. All required fees have been paid and while I want to sit back and wait, I just can't help but ask, does B2 visa require Medical test and Police character report? I have read over the instructions on the interview confirmation I received but there's no mention if this is required or not. If they are required, how and where should I go about scheduling one? I know she can obtain a police report from Alagbon.
Thank you!

It's Nigeria. Everything in Nigeria is frustrating from start to finish. They will frustrate the life out of you for no just reason. In saner climes, a simple email or phone call to the proper office would resolve this. Why a WEBSITE as big as TRAVEL.STATE.GOV can't and won't accept payments online from non-GTBANK customer is beyond me. I'll advise to pay another fee, if granted a visa, then write or call USCIS to see what they can say.

Hello everyone,
My wife and I are expecting a child next year and I would like to invite my mother to come visit us for some months in the US. She lives in Nigeria and retired. I was under the impression that she needs a B2 visa. My wife and I are fully employed and capable of taking care of her while she's here. How do I go about inviting her?
Will she need an invitation letter? Any guidance provided will be greatly appreciated.

I just want to add that Nigeria is a very difficult country to go through. COs don't trust any Nigerian especially if there's no marriage already established. Even with marriage, some of them are just mean and rude. They know they can change your luck with a stroke of a pen but knowing the history of Nigerian youths in general and some misrepresentation they've seen in the past, these people jump to conclusion even before hearing you out. I know how it feels. Blame it on the country. There's lots of good advise here. Hopefully, things work out for the best for you two. Good luck!

How can I track my visa packet after interview? I registered to pick it from EMPOST. Emirates Post, Abu Dhabi UAE.
CEAC visa tracking says issued. The embassy closes at 5, EMPOST closes at 6, and won't reopen till Sunday again. Is there a chance I might get it today? How can I track it?

Hello, just was a bit curious, how long after your case was complete did they schedule his interview? My husband is also in Abu Dhabi, just want to get an idea of the time frame.
Thanks. And yes, the average wait time is 6 months. I don't know if things will be different because of the present administration and some ban. I think it was that long because they were interviewing people from Iran, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. And preparing paperwork for some refugees too. The reason I said this is because we got an interview immediately they issued the ban in the 7 countries. It could be a coincidence don't know.

Approved interviewees are informed of payment for a GC, which can be paid prior to, or right after entering the US. Think it's $220.
No it's $165. That's what the website and paper says. I confirmed that we can pay it after he enters the US.

My husband attended his interview today and was approved. He was given a packet of US information and one of the pages say he must apply for green card before entering the US.
is this mandatory? I thought you could also apply after entering the US?

Omg that is amazing!! Congrats So happy for you. Best of luck. Can you tell me what they asked your husband please share the experience. My husband also have interview in Abu Dhabi.
Hi interview was a miracle. He was first to arrive at 5:30, and the gate opens at 7am. They were ushered in, his DS261 and passport was collected at the first room. He didn't bring a copy of his EMPOST registration confirmation. You have to complete it online to choose the post office you want your visa packet to be sent to. Print out the sheet when you done. My husband completed it online but forgot to print it out. As long as you register online that will do.
He said the people were amazing. They noticed he was taking time in finding required documents in his packet so they took his packet from him, sorted out the documents they needed and the ones they didn't. ??
His interview turned to a chat when he told them he works at one of the biggest hotel in AD. The CO looked up at him with a smile and they got talking about the hotel and how the CO wants to go sometime with his colleagues. My husband even recommended what they should try at the restaurant. It turned into a friendly chat rather than interview.
They asked him where his wife was at this moment. He said "she just returned from work and at home waiting for my call about the interview." The CO smiled.
****Please know your partner's schedule in the US.
They asked him where he met his wife, he answered.
My husband wanted to show photos and the CO said "no no...you're approved." She cross checked our original documents with what I initially filed the case with.
He was given a white slip that says Congratulations! He wasn't asked much questions.
I will still post this on the review page.

I just want to share with you all that my husband attended his interview this morning at USEM Abu Dhabi, and he was approved. He was actually the first person to be interviewed for IV. If you were there this morning you probably saw a fine young man in blue suit. ??
Thank you everyone for your support and assistance through this journey. It's been a rough and painful one year but I'm glad it has come to an end. I'm hoping he joins me this weekend in the US. ? Thank you all!
Case completed Sept 15, 2016. Interview scheduled on February 3, 2017.
Interview date March 1, 2017

Yes, she can travel after the birth, but she needs to go to the embassy and file CRBA, and get a US passport there for the baby if she wishes (haha) to bring the baby.
EDIT: Read this https://www.uscis.gov/us-citizenship/citizenship-through-parents
Thanks. Do you know how long the process takes?

Hi everyone,
My friend who lives in the US petitioned for his wife, a Nigerian citizen and she was issued a visa last Friday. However, due to the holiday she didn't get her passport back. She is pregnant and due within 7 days. She can't travel anymore because of her condition. However, her husband said she will come after the baby is born, within 2 months. I'm thinking this could be complicated because of a new born?
Can she travel with the new born within 2 months if her 6 months visa is still active? Does she need to petition for the new born? How long does the paperwork take? Please advise.

I have a question about rescheduling our interview appointment at the London embassy. We contacted the embassy about the possibility of moving it up a week or so in order for my husband to be here while we're off from school for spring break. They directed us to the website ais.usvisa-info.com that shows the calendar for the embassy in real time and allows one to change their interview.
My question is do you have to cancel your current appointment before you can see the calendar? I just don't want to give up the appointment without knowing if there is an earlier one available.
Anyone have any experience to share regarding this?
NVC might be able to help you with that.
Also you mentioned your husband's medical didn't go well. I am sorry to hear that. i hope everything goes well. please keep us updated on what happens with the interview and all.
