  1. They won't qualify for Medicare. The healthcare issue is a CRUCIAL part of planning, as you could be paying >$2k/month in premiums for them.
  2. As long as the marriage is valid where it occurs, that's sufficient. There is no doing a marriage "under a US passport." In terms of what it takes for foreigners to marry in a specific location, that is something to research about the country in question, it isn't part of US immigration. Are you not worried about a visit to Cuba creating issues for your Russian fiance when it comes time for the US visa?
  3. Not sure how it could matter? There is no notation put in a US passport when you get married. You need a certified marriage certificate with a translation. I'm not sure why you're focusing on a passport, it is irrelevant. There is no centralized marriage registry in the US.
  4. This can backfire in terms of visa approval...
  5. Right, which is why I said to check the published DOS info. No US consulate requires or accepts sponsorship for tourist visas.
  6. Amazing this myth persists when even DOS official info explicitly states that a visa decision will be made without regard to any type of invitation letter or sponsorship. People need to read the actual instructions.
  7. That’s great news! Thanks for reporting back to us, it’s good to know that it worked for you!
  8. AP is taking 8-12 months to approve, regardless of when you want to travel. It’s best not to book tickets or have specific plans until you have it in your possession.
  9. Omg, there is NO sponsorship for tourist visas !!! if you want to sponsor them to live here, petition them properly!
  10. That is the least of his worries.
  11. Yep, and so now that fraudulent claim is on your USCIS record.
  12. You won’t have your interview waived, lol. USCIS will be very curious about your fake VAWA claim.
  13. So why would she go to the ROC interview?
  14. Either we’re being trolled here, or OP has managed to check every fraud box known to mankind. If this story is real, you’ve got an uphill (both ways, in the snow) battle ahead of you.
  15. You’re getting ahead of yourself here. There are several distinct steps in both the K-1/CR-1 processes. They both start with a petition and end with an interview. Some of the processing times you’re seeing might be for the petition approval alone. Since they both currently take around two years overall, easily the best choice is the CR-1, as there is no delay with the green card. US immigration is not cheap, fast, or easy. I suggest the USC petitioner joins the convo here.
  16. You’re not eligible. It’s for USCs living abroad and looking to petition a spouse, generally due to the need to relocate quickly due to job.
  17. This is FRAUD. She needs to be properly petitioned for an immigrant visa. No one on VJ will dispense advice on how to commit immigration fraud.
  18. It will be at least 20 years before they can immigrate to the US.
  19. Have they previously lived/worked in the US and paid into either system?
  20. Are families asked for citizenship or residency status when enrolling kids in school? All the years my kids were in the public schools, we were never asked that. But, I'm on the West Coast.
  21. Yes. And stick around VisaJourney when questions come up, it is a great site with knowledgable people. Best wishes!
  22. It will take around two years total. Nothing more for you to do for quite awhile.
