  1. .22LR Sniper Subsonic 60gr bullets. I think these would hurt.

Now I'm confused. I thought the trend for buying higher caliber handguns was the force of damage they could do? From what I've read, a 9mm hollow point is almost indistinguishable from 40 SW. Bigger isn't always better, yes?

Hurt? Yes it will hurt. High percentage stopping power? No.

A well placed shot with an Airsoft gun or a BB gun can stop someone. I would rather go with the knockdown or stopping power to a well placed shot. Most people never rise to the occasion when stress is involved , they drop down to their level of training. In the case of getting hit with a .22LR 30 gr bullet vs a 60 gr. I'll pick getting hit with the 30 gr. less energy.

  2. The Repubican Party has some deep fissures. In fact, its a party in search of itself. Why? Because the hardliners with their immovable stance on immigration doesn't give room for anyone else's view within the Party. This is why they have imploded. They succeeded in the early 90's by making political consessions among the different groups and created a united front.

Regardless of Party of political ideology, without compromise you'll never win elections.

Sounds more like the democratic party. A total bunch of losers that even though they are in power can't do anything but b!tch, whine and blame everything on Bush. They know that most of the country is moderate but they seem to always pander to the far left. They are not likely to win any elections with a record like that over the last few years. I say kick everyone out and start over.

If a real Conservative stepped up to the plate I don't think the Dems wouldn't have a chance.

What's funny is a Rep of today is like a Dem of the past, yet the Dems say Reps are too far right.

If congress had the guts they could end Iraq by cutting the funding, but they won't. Principal doesn't matter power does.

  3. Officers in this area have been going to a larger caliber due to the Methamphitimine problem. The county I live has one of the worst meth problems in the state. I think its like 40% of those in county jail are meth addicts.

IIRC- SOF in Afganistan want to go back to the .45 because the 9mm wasn't stopping taliban forces that were chewing khat.

-FBI shoot out in Florida were offciers realized that .38 special and 9mm didn't cut it.

No offense, but without some comprehensive study I have difficulty in believing that a .38 caliber bullet wouldn't stop anyone dead in their tracks.

9mm was the standard for law enforcement for a long time.

BTW, something that I just read - a 50% hit ratio is not uncommon among law enforcement. Perhaps accuracy has more to do with the issue than the caliber of the weapon?

None taken. I don't think many people would volunteer to be part of ta study showning the effects of taking bullet hits.

There is data from real encounters.

9mm and .38 was standard until the 1986 Miami shoot out. They realized it was under powered. Suspects took several shoots and wern't put down.

Immediately after being forced off the road, Platt began firing his Mini-14 from the car, while Matix fired a single round from a shotgun. Matix was soon hit twice by the agents, and he was apparently knocked unconscious. He fired no more shots throughout the battle. Platt, however, had already injured two agents with the rifle.

Platt climbed out a car window, and was hit several times, yet he continued fighting, now firing a revolver. He also continued to use the rifle, despite injuries to his right hand and arm, and caused agents more injuries, including a shot to the neck.

Military-trained, Platt aggressively advanced on Grogan and Dove's car, which they (so far uninjured) were using for cover. Reaching their position, he continued firing the rifle. Platt killed Grogan with a shot to the chest, shot another agent in the groin, and then killed Dove with two shots to the head. Platt himself had already been hit six times at this point.

Platt entered Grogan and Dove's car, apparently attempting escape. He was joined by Matix, who had regained consciousness and had crawled unseen to Platt's position.

The fight was finally ended by special agent Edmundo Mireles, who, despite being seriously injured during the gunfight (his left arm was totally disabled after being struck by bullets from Platt's rifle), overcame this injury. Agent Mireles used his uninjured arm to cycle his pump shotgun one-handed and fire repeated rounds at the vehicle's driver and passenger compartment, which prevented the suspects from leaving the scene. When his shotgun rounds were exhausted, Mireles managed to rise to his feet, draw his service revolver, and advance toward the vehicle, where he killed both Matix and Platt at near point-blank range.

Toxicology tests showed that the astounding abilities of Platt and Matix to fight through multiple traumatic gun shot wounds and continue to battle and attempt to escape were not achieved through any chemical means. Both of their bodies were completely drug- and alcohol-free at the time of their deaths.

  5. Im female and i do have a gun card . But haven't found the gun i want to buy. Im thinking about a 38 or 45 . I want to shoot both of them befor i decide

Good idea. I like the .45 for its stopping power. Keeps someone who is essentially dead on his feet from still being able to charge at you and do you harm before he succombs.

A .45 seems a bit excessive. I've never heard a perpetrator continuously attacking someone who's firing at them with a gun, especially if you've already hit them...except in the movies.

What do most police officers use?

    You ever hear of Meth?

I own several firearms for hunting and defense, anything from .22 to .50 caliber

If you want a .38 special get a .357 mag. A .357 mag will shoot .38 special, it will give you a little more flexibility with ammo.

  7. Male, own a Glock .45 for defense and sport shooting, laws are too restrictive. The burden should be on the government to demonstrate why I should not be allowed to own/carry a gun, not the other way around. The focus should be placed on criminals who use guns, not on law-abiding citizens. They could start with disarming gang members...

brother scott..a 1st calls excellent weapon../ i plan on getting the 40 caliber model with the 30 round clip next year or two

30 Round clip? :o I didn't know they made clips that high? Wow!

I have 40 round mag for one of mine.

  8. So called civilized soceity wants a warrior class, but thinks that these warriors can live among the general population without any help. They are supposed to just forget eveything and come back to "Normal" living after their experinces.

A society with a warrior class (ours) must remain in a perpetual state of war.

Every country has a warrior class. They have militarys, police, etc.

We just expect them to not let their experince hinder them. Obviously it doesn't work. We get homless verterns, alcoholic police men and women, ect.

  9. Sexual crime is not a joke to the victims.

I can't see you saying the same thing about him was he a legal resident. You can't switch compassion off just because he happens to be illegal, or can you? Hmm, maybe you can. The teacher was in a position of authority and was twice his age. You don't think there is at least manipulation coming into play here?

It is also pretty ridiculous to make a comparison between border agents and this case. Either you accept that laws need to be enforced when a serious crime is committed, regardless of status, or you don't.

So the laws against jumping the border and running drugs is not serious?

I was pointing out that there is no difference between a crime against a citizen or someone who is here illegally. The law does not make exceptions. If there were exceptions, the two agents wouldn't be in prison.

  10. Re the crime thing, it's possible that if the victim of a serious crime is an illegal alien then criminal action cannot be taken. They have to make the person a citizen to enact the law. My guess is that not doing so would leave any illegal alien vulnerable to serious crime leaving US citizens free to commit serious crimes willy nilly. However, I am no expert so someone who knows about these things might clear this up.

There are two border agents sitting in prison.
