AstroCanada got a reaction from Rearviewmirror in Washington, DC Field Office Filers
Our journey is at the end now.  My husband took the oath this morning.  In and out in 15 minutes with about 20 people in the room.  He said the staff were actually pleasant for a change.  After several thousand dollars and hundreds of pages of paperwork, I wish I could have joined him, but just glad it's over.  Best of luck to the rest of you all--this forum has been an amazing resource from start to finish of this experience.  We've been better informed than most of the people I know who hired immigration lawyers.

Pro tip: Free/easy parking just across from the office both the surface lot and garage.

Tax returns are solid evidence of financial commingling.   Emails from a past professor are most definitely not.  Including tons of weak evidence like that just detracts from the strong pieces.

K-3 visa could become relevant again now that all the other timelines are taking so long.  They essentially phased that visa out because it was no faster than the CR-1's.   It took us about 9 months for our CR-1 in 2016, and I thought that was long at the time.  I won't complain for sure now.

The people you know are not going to succeed if they have a conditional 2 year green card.  Do not follow their example as they are now out of legal status.  File an I-751 removal of conditions.  There's a helpful guide and lots of information on this forum.

AstroCanada got a reaction from J+J in Disclosure of HIV status and being a public charge
You are not actually required to disclose this.  The question of public charge is separate from the medical exam.  The public charge determination is purely based on financial sponsorship.  The medical exam is based on the questions that the panel physicians are required to ask and the list of diseases they are required to screen for.

Unless specifically asked (because you shouldn't lie), I'd not bring it up.

Just like you said, I should practice my patience more. I finally got my NC back in the mail today. Thank God! It was in a brown manila envelope, stamped on December 7. Safe and sound, no damage at all.

Just to be super explicit, you will know if you have been officially detained by a police officer.  If you're not sure if you've been detained, you haven't been detained.

Plus, the filing season hasn't started yet. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/22/your-money/irs-tax-season.html "the agency has pushed back the start of filing to Feb. 12 for returns for the tax year 2020. The shift was needed, the I.R.S. said, to allow the agency to update and test its systems to reflect late-year tax changes approved by Congress, including a second round of economic stimulus payments."

This is the best advice of this thread.  The local police probably have absolutely no idea what removal of conditions is.  When interacting with law enforcement, less is often more.  Unless it's the CBP exercising their jurisdiction within 100 miles of the border, a police officer is already on legally dubious grounds asking to see any ID randomly on public transit.  Show the state ID if asked, don't volunteer anything extra unless it's necessary.

That's a different kettle of fish than the original question.  Better saved for another thread.

For the OP, I can assure you the CBP's first priority is not chasing down people who filed for ROC and don't have a letter in hand.

AstroCanada reacted to Mike E in what happens if we dont receive the 751 notice before the conditional green card expires?
Since the I-751 was received before the green card expired, there won’t be a deportation unless the petition is ultimately denied and all appeal paths exhausted.

Your husband should carry proof that the I-751 was received.  Electronic and printed copy.

AstroCanada got a reaction from stm in "N-400 estimated case completion time", is it accurate? (merged)
Our wait time went down to a few days up to a a month then to "longer than expected".  In the end when it said we were a few days away, it ended up being another 5 months.  So I'd say not very accurate

We filed the day before you according to the spreadsheet and just checked and the estimated wait time shows 4 days.  Then again a week ago, it showed 7 days...ticking down at least.  We just don't want to make any travel plans before getting this scheduled (not that we're doing anything exotic anyway).

AstroCanada reacted to DSOTM1973 in Will Green Card holders get the $1000 federal relief package?
If you filed taxes alone last year, then you will get whatever amount they pass, if you filed taxes with your spouse, you will get whatever amount x2, assuming you meet the criteria of income (under 75k) and 150k

For most of people, you are not technically getting any money from the government as much as you are basically getting a tax cut from the previous year as If you paid 3k in federal taxes, and you are given $1950 (after taxes again if they tax the relief amount)l, you are practically given a one year late extra tax refund, which is nice

& since they are some misinformation above,

Democratic voted no on the bill because they want workers to get more $, they want permit corp from using the bailout package to buyback their stock, small business get more bailout $$  package, and they want to make sure the bailout goes toward keeping working as much as possible.

AstroCanada got a reaction from Suze1 in USCIS is Extending the Suspension of In-Person Services at all Local Offices from April 7th to June 4th Due to Covid-19
I've been following the virus data pretty closely, and my informed guess based on Wuhan's lockdown and time to no new infections is that we're looking at at least 2 months of public life being cancelled.  I have a lot of sympathy for anyone who's caught up in this.  Hopefully, USCIS does reasonable things like extending status and waiving interviews in more cases.
