Honestly, It doesn't suck. It is there for a reason. I feel for you guys but I think the requirements are to low. 22,000 a year is barely enough for one person without all the government fees involved with K1 visa and supporting your new spouse for 6 to 8 months before he or she can work.  Good Luck finding your co sponsors

Wow!  Pretty strong words there!  Looks like you got your AOS approved in 6 months. That’s not bad at all. We are 15 months waiting here. I honestly believe these employees are doing a great job and doing the absolute best they can. I do not think, as someone posted here, that some old grouchy guy lets piles of files sit there for days and only manages to do one a day. IMO, these people work very hard and have good work ethics. Their job is to ensure that people that don’t belong here aren’t allowed to stay. As a veteran, I need to say that our government is amazing and I am proud to have served to protect my nation.

Does she have driver license ?  You can fly domestically with that. Only reason to use passport would be at embassy or consulate

Depends on the drivers license. As of January 22,2018 you are required to have a Real ID to be compliant with the new guidelines. Michigan is on the list, so they should be OK as long as they have a newer Real ID compatible ID. They just started issuing the new ones in Michigan, so check your ID for the Real ID Symbol. Quality is the key ....  My wife and I spent hours at the initial K1 application, reviewing each others forms, cover letter for the required items. We did not include all talks chats etc; just a compilation over the year and a half we had known each other. I think a huge amount will make the government worker wait to start on the thick ones.

PS, you do know that as a US citizen you are also required to file taxes on income earned anywhere ?

This means that you as an American living abroad or Green Card holder will need to file a US federal tax return this year if your total income – regardless of where the income was earned (and in what currency) – exceeds any of the following minimum thresholds: For citizens filing as Single: $10,300.

You will need proof of current income or a sponsor. He cannot work until he gets his EAD. You just stated you were going to break the law as soon as he gets into the country.

He does have a job lined up in the US through my family business, but is not applying for a work visa.

That is where the confusion came in. Yes K1 the apply and receive EAD, then work. Sorry if we misunderstood but it sounded like you meant he was going to work for the family as soon as he got here.                              when earning abroad, you only have to file taxes if you make more than $50,000
You still have to file taxes, it is just that you don't pay unless you make over the set amount.

Your sister in law is filing for her sister ? Her sister is your wife ? a UK citizen and you are a citizen of where ? Are you in UK or somewhere else ? I believe she can only apply for her sister as a direct family member , not you and your kids.

They could be looking at it from the standpoint of you having no job history and earnings history. One of the tenants for an application being accepted is that there be no concern of the immigrant becoming a public charge. I do not mean for this to sound bad and I appreciate your service to our country but these guys do not fudge rules. They are fact checkers and have a list to go by..  Missleman is correct in saying follow the path of least resistance.

      Good Luck with your application.
