  1. Please let me know! Sounds good. I tried for a long time to get an info-pass appointment, but every time I check it says that one is not available. Pretty frustrating.
  2. ALMAP--- update for you. My tracking status on the USCIS website went from "actively being reviewed" to "cannot provide an update at this time". We called USCIS and talked to tier 1 support. They said they couldn't track it either and they had to transfer me to Tier 2 support. Far and away best customer service I've ever gotten from the USCIS. I explained in detail exactly what had happened with the expiration mixup. The officer was a little concerned and understood our worries about the request for form 751 later this year. In turn, she asked me if I was 100% sure that it was a USCIS error. I said yes- "look at your records. you have absolutely no record of my wife in nov 2016 when it says she arrived in the US. She was living outside the country and hadn't even started this process yet". Then I asked her to check the I94 to confirm my story. She spent a min or 2 and concurred with my explanation. She said that under this circumstance, a USCIS GC error is automatically approved to be expedited. She said we will get a letter in a week with details about the expedite process. Initially she said lets wait 60 days- but after she decided to expedite it, she said I shouldn't wait 60 days for an update and to email them through the USCIS account we have for another update. I'd make the call if I were you! Just try to get transferred to Tier 2 support. Let me know if you have any questions. best of luck.
  3. My God what a nightmare... The only thing I can tell you is that when I called the uscis, they told me to not worry about it, and to check your I94 online. That should show your correct admission date and a correct expiration date (2 years later) in Nov 2019. In our case it was correct. I filed my I90 in March I think and I'm still waiting for the new GC...

Where do I find the form? Just checked the IRS website and nothing was there that I saw. Thanks for your help!

Is there any risk/downside to doing it this way? Am I forced to file MFJ forever? (not sure why you wouldn't want to), I just remember reading something like that.

Okay that sounds good--- thanks so much guys. So I file either 6013 H or G, but not both?

And you guys think I have to do this for my amended return even if I am putting my wife's SSN on the 1040X and I already filed my 2017 MFJ w/ her SSN? I guess it couldn't hurt-- Just don't want to open up a can of worms!

I already filed this year for 2017 (MFJ) and didn't do any special election to my knowledge. Isn't it already implied that you want to be taxes together when you are filing MFJ?

What is the requirement exactly? When must I complete the FBAR? She was here for 1.5 months in 2017 and will be here for all of 2018.

Seems quite similar-- How did you run the #'s exactly? Any tips? The only way I have ever done it is playing around with TurboTax.

Let me know if I am not analyzing correctly. Isn't the 1116 foreign tax credit for people who paid taxes to a foreign county? Neither myself or wife did (she didn't make enough money for it to be a requirement).

That is exactly what I was anticipating... but dang the IRS is a tough nut to crack! It's tough to be precise on a forum because you cant really post exact income figures etc. In addition to what you said, we should have a lower tax liability because we want to file MFJ, and even though her foreign earned income is taxable, it is almost nothing (a few thousand $). So that's what lead me to believe that I should be getting a decent refund. With that being said, I'm nervous that I'd receive a tax bill from uncle Sam for 10k! haha Geowrian--- is that all you did? File the 1040X and FEIE 2555-EZ? Did you do the same as me and file MFS and then amend to MFJ?

What a nightmare... now I'm getting nervous. If I may ask, how much does a good tax accountant charge to do something like this? I tried to find one in my area, but with no luck. I wonder if it is even worth it for me to do it now-- no idea how much I could get back and I'm not sure how to calculate it!
